descriptionEven after claiming the Big East title, the Louisville Cardinals appeared to have their work cut out as they entered the 2013 All State Sugar Bowl against the No. 3 Florida Gators. The 21st-ranked Cards proceeded to make a statement in New Orleans, following the lead of star quarterback Teddy Bridgewater to an emphatic 33-23 victory over their opponent from the Southeastern Conference. Before Bridgewater could even set foot on the field, however, Louisville received a boost from its defense. On the first play from scrimmage, Cardinals defensive back Terell Floyd intercepted a pass by Florida quarterback Jeff Driskel and took it 38 yards for a score, setting the tone for Louisville right out of the gate. Bridgewater took the reins from there, operating with surgical precision against a Florida defense that ranked among the nation's best all season. The sophomore quarterback completed 20 passes on the evening en route to 266 yards and a pair of scores, while running back Jeremy Wright added 84 yards and a touchdown on the ground in a well-rounded offensive showing. Driskel and the Gators were unable to get into a rhythm against the Louisville defense, which allowed the Cardinals' offense to build an insurmountable lead by limiting Florida to just 10 points in the first three quarters of action. Mike Gillislee was held to just 48 yards on the ground, and Driskel only managed 175 passing yards while being picked off twice by the Cards. The victory in the Super Dome capped off a stellar year for Charlie Strong's Louisville squad, which rounded out the season with an 11-2 record. The Official 2013 Allstate Sugar Bowl includes the commercial-free game broadcast on DVD as well as the trophy presentation. It is a great addition to any fan's collection!
