A brighter world for a sick child

Play-Asia teamed up with Cheap Ass Gamer to raise funds through a raffle for Child’s Play Charity, which ended on the 19th of December. For a $5 donation, gamers had the chance to win a $1,000 shopping spree at popular online entertainment store Play-Asia, as well as many runner-up prizes donated by members of the Cheap Ass Gamer community such as cash, games and accessories.

The response was overwhelming [drumrolls starting] and thanks to kind hearted gamers across the globe [drumrulls raising], the raffle was a smashing success with

[and off with a smash!]

$10,285 raised!

We are overwhelmed by the result and would like to say a big thank you to everyone who participated in the raffle and that the gaming community is indeed very caring even though the media tries to say otherwise. Many sick kids will benefit from your kind donations. The money will all be forwarded directly to Child's Play to help sick children in need, CheapyD and Play-Asia will cover for any PayPal fees so the gross amount you sent will directly go to Child's Play.

The gaming community was quick to support the worthy cause and many donations kept coming through during the course of the raffle. But that's not all. A few days after the raffle has started, donators came in to provide runner-up prizes

6. "The random box" (Basically, a ton of older games + accessories, some sealed, some not...NES/SNES/N64/PS1/PS2/Gamecube included)

9. New Sealed Gears of War Collector's Edition
10. Matted Print of Chakan the Forever Man by the creator Robert Kraus. With the matting its 8 X 10 and Robert has done a original chalk drawing along the bottom of the matting.
11. Metal Gear Solid 3 Subsistence Limited Edition (sealed)

Update 29. Dec. 2006

• Because of the quake near Taiwan and the resulting disruption of internet services in the region, we have to postpone the winner announcement for a few days.
• CheapyD from Cheap Ass Gamer has sent the cheque to Child's Play
• The final amount is now US$ 10,485, $200 more than initially announced. (Reson for this is cleared PayPal payments that were not included in the balance yet)
