Welcome to this week's Movie/Music news roundup, containing new Japanese and Hong Kong Video and Music releases from this week listed at Play-Asia.com.
1963 is the year before the Tokyo Olympics. To display an image of glamour and prosperity to the world, the country was busy pulling down old buildings and replace it with the new. One of the buildings threatened to be demolished is the Quartier Latin, the social club building in Umi's school.
At first, Umi is indifferent to the fate of the Quartier Latin, however, things changes when she meets Kazama Shun, the leader of the opposing movement. The relationship between the two develops as they fight to preserve the building, however, when Kazama sees a family photograph of Umi's, he realizes that they could be blood related.
Adapted from a classic shojo manga of the same name, the film brings back the nostalgia and the warm, bittersweet feelings of first love. Studio Ghibli is known for pulling off magic. See the sparks that fly off in Poppy Hill.

The old servant Tao has been like the air in Roger's life, the two got along smoothly without much communication. However, their journey to true understanding starts when Roger takes Tao to the elderly home. Instead of being looked after, he becomes the son that Tao never has.
The simple plot proves to showcase the chemistry between Deanie Ip and Andy Lau. It also captures Ann Hui's special style of social realism at its best.
