Decent
Good game so far (I played 4 hours of it so far.. not very far in)
As usual for otomate, it's a visual novel game as somewhat of a prequel to hakuouki with a male protagonist. (Not a dating sim exactly, you get friendship points with the main 5 characters)
Much more history-heavy and story-based heavy since it's not a romance game, and it covers the 'birth' of the Shinsengumi. So far it's very interesting, and highly suggested for people who like Hakuouki not just for the romance but for the stories.
Also have random side character chapters, so the game seems quite lengthy. What's more, graphics are beautiful with 3d-like very minute movements but mouths (sometimes) move when they talk. Still kind of glitchy for mouth movement but a great improvement to otomate games.
Mind you, I never had the psp version of this game and I've only played the first Hakuouki game for PSP and Yuugiroku for PSP, so this was an interesting change for me.

Great Prequel, But Not Much Added Since PSP Release
Hakuoki Reimeiroku is the prequel game to the Hakuoki series starring Chizuru. In this game, you play through the eyes of the young man, Ryunosuke Ibuki. (In case you're worried, there is no boy's love in this game! Everyone is straight.)
If you are a fan of the other Hakuoki games, then I highly recommend this game for you. The graphics, music, and story are all on par with the rest of the franchise. If you havent' played the other Hakuoki games, but are interested in the series, I would actually recommend playing this one first since it takes place just a few months before the main game starts.
The only reason I gave this four stars instead of five is because there isn't much improvement over the PSP release. Most of the special features are available on the PSP release. As someone who has the PS2, PSP and PS3 Limited Edition releases, I can say honestly that this was the most disappointing of the three when it comes to special features. If you already have a PS2 or PSP copy of the game, there really isn't any need to buy the PS3 release on top of it. If you don't have a copy of one of the earlier releases, then I'd recommend you go ahead and either get this copy of the PSP copy. (It does have a few special features the PSP doesn't, so if money isn't an issue, I'd go ahead and get this one.) ^_^
