Disney+Square = Win
Who could say that the marriage of the great animation studio and a big gamerhouse could make a game that is actually beautiful, fun and enjoyable??? That's what Kingdon Hearts series is, and that one is the best so far.

Good game
It's overall a good game. The story starts quite weak but gets better. The combat is good, but the "Drop system" is a bit unnecessary. It can force you to change character even in the middle of a boss battle.

Quite a piece for your Kingdom Hearts collection
I hesitated a long time between this box and the Mark of Mastery edition - knowing very well that I wouldn't be able to afford the two, no matter how much of a KH fan I am. Here's what I would advise to someone in the same situation:

- If you're more interested in the AR cards, buy the Mark of Mastery edition. Just know that the cards are not necessary to get all Dream Eaters in the game and can be found for free on the Internet, but it's still great for collection sake.

- If you're more interested in playing Days and Coded in Japanese on your (not zoned) DS (which is really awesome when you're studying Japanese), buy this anniversary edition. Plus, although it's a little detail, I was more drawn to the package which celebrates the whole series and not just 3D.

In both case, you get this really cool 3DS protect cover (probably what appealed to me most in both editions) and this nice postcard set. And of course, a great piece for your KH collection. ;)

Surprised, but not that much.
Gameplay:
I sort of expected the game to be a quick finish, thinking it wouldn't be much of a challenge, since the game was on a portable gaming platform. And I was right for the most part: most of the bosses were easily defeated by button mashing "A" and "X" randomly. At some times, I died once or twice, but once I understood the attack patterns of the boss, winning became a chore of accurate timing and more mashing. I was also somewhat miffed at the enemy design in this game. Sure, maybe KH is aimed at a more younger audience than Final Fantasy, but at times it simply felt downright embarrassing to pet your dream eaters. Even fighting the bosses felt shameful. I couldn't even bear to play this in public.

The Drop System that was implemented in the game was an interesting turn for me. Unlike most people, I didn't find the timer to be much of a bother (since you could just use items to restart the timer anyway). I actually found it nice to have two protagonists of the story for once. The only thing I wished that was different was if the two protagonists didn't have to go to the same worlds, because the first time I would go to a world, it was pretty cool seeing all the new sights and characters. But visiting it a second time made it like a chore. (Although I did get used to visiting worlds twice in KHII) I would have very much liked for Sora to have a set of worlds that only he would go to and Riku would go to other ones. This, of course, would allow the developers to add twice as many worlds and it would take out some of the repetition I felt when playing with the two of them. Now for the parts where you go through a drop before entering a world, which I'm assuming replaces the Gummi Ship system, they were interesting enough, but a bit too simplistic. It felt like a dumbed-down version of Kid Icarus. Also, it felt more linear than the Gummi Ship parts in KHII, if that was even possible. I would have been content with just bringing back the Gummi Ship into DDD, but I suppose Chip and Dale wouldn't be in the sleeping worlds helping Sora and Riku out.

The dream eaters were an interesting addition to the gameplay as well. Their unique ability links really encouraged me to take the time to pet them and gain as many link points as I could to attain the abilities I wanted. Some dream eaters, however, were simply annoying to pet, like one of the dream eaters I got from the AR cards I got with the game: the Meowjesty. It rolled and bounced around, making it aggravating to continuously pet it. At one point I turned off the game just to spare myself the annoyance of enduring his whimsical bounces and screen-licking.

Story:
In terms of the story, the development was sluggish throughout the different worlds since all the "sleeping worlds" had seemingly nothing to do with the actual world outside. They simply didn't give the feel of the worlds I played in the other KH games. Of course, this could be primarily due to the fact that the worlds in KH I and II were much larger. After all, this is on a portable gaming system. The only world that really gave the story a good kick in the butt and made up for all the sluggishness was the last world: The World That Never Was. Well, you know what they say. Save the best for last. And I must say I was thoroughly pleased.

Other Effects:
If some of these effects I'm about to mention weren't in place, I may have given this game quite a low score. The music, for instance, was virtually top-notch as always. Some songs from previous KH games made a return, much to my delight. Other music from the other worlds sounded very nostalgic and I found them fairly enjoyable. The 3D effect also had some nice moments, but I could tell that the 3D function wasn't a huge part of the game like it was in the recent Mario 3D game. But it was still nice to watch the cutscenes in 3D. But like many people who were around when the 3DS first game out, I'm going to say the 3D is just a gimmick. Nothing special.

As for the voice acting, I wasn't quite happy with it at all. While the game's final product was a huge improvement from that of the trailer, the voice acting just didn't seem authentic. Dubs usually aren't perfect, but I just felt like the voices didn't match the character sometimes. Sora, for instance, was a bit off for me and I couldn't take him seriously. While his voice actor was the same, the voice seemed dull and stoic, void of true, legitimate expression. I gagged when I first heard Joshua's voice in Traverse Town. He sounded almost nothing like he did in TWEWY, much to my horror. But I was willing to overlook those inconsistent voices and focus on the story at hand, which made the game more bearable to play through the voice acting.

Overall, this game is labeled KH 2.5 for a reason. It's not a spin off like the ones on the other handheld consoles, but it definitely can't be considered a full game. The gameplay was the still the good 'ol button mashing, but the story was quite slow. The other additions to the game features was entertaining for the first few hours, but they become routine eventually. The music and sound effects were on the spot, but the voice acting wasn't.

This game still made me drunk with excitement, but it kept me sober enough to realize that it wasn't what I imagined it to be.

A nice action game
I already made a review about the Mark of Mastery Edition, I also bought the normal game, so here goes for it.

The game is really fun, action oriented combat with a good story. It's a good Kingdom Hearts game. I really don't ahve much to say, it's actually the first Kingdom Hearts game I play, so I can't compare with the others.
But as a stand alone, its a really fun game.

Really great game, with great use of 3d. The game is very lengthy so it will last you a while (I recommend playing on proud first, as its challenging but not so easy) and there is also things to do once the game is over. Flowmotion is great but the only thing I didn't like were the dream eater pets, raising them to get special abilities were a bit of a chore.

World of Dream Drops
Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance is an amazing installment with beautiful 3D, huge Worlds and nice setting!

The Worlds, even if not that much are really amazingly huge! The Maps can be traveled classically by foot or the new Free Flow Action System, which enables both Sora and Riku to ridiculously high Jumps, Wall Jumps and so on! The Battle System is the same as in Birth by Sleep or Re:Coded, so you don't need to learn nothing new, you gain new Abilities through the Dream Eaters, nearly everyone has special Talents hidden which can be unlocked if you treat them well.

The newest Feature of this game is the Drop Gauge, which will deplete automatically. When the Gauge hits Zero, you have left 30 seconds of Bonus Time before you switch out between Riku or Sora, depending on who you play at the moment.
Someone complained about the Drop being too fast, but the Game provides Items where you can play hours with them since you can refresh the Gauge once in a while! :) So this argument is invalid. :)

Very awesome game and worth every penny! :)

Dropped a Birth by Sleep into my Dreams.
I'm not sure whether to hate this game or not. It plays near identically to Birth by Sleep and it's Final Mix iteration, minus the fact I can Dodge Roll out of everything. This makes group battles and even some boss battles ridiculously tedious since blocking still feels a bit too risky for what it's worth and opposing Dream Eaters can really eat your health in a flash if surrounded.

And on top of that, there is a time limit for both playable characters which severly tampers with boss battles and restarts them should the time run out during those parts. It can be a real killer, especially if you are to attempt a low level playthrough which is either not worth the time or just plain impossible.

The music is still superb though and the new wall jumping / gliding features make the worlds a bit more complex and fun to explore in. Dream Eater and breeding them is a bit of a Pokémon-ish hobby which I am not personally into, but it does bring something different to the table along with the Gummi-like diving sections.

It's a modified Birth by Sleep at it's heart which saddens me quite a bit, but I suppose that is not a problem for every two fans of the series. If you don't mind that, you've got a nice game ahead of you.

Amazing Game
Everything about it was perfect. The gameplay is really impressive, both in practice and visually, and the cutscenes are great.

Another KH spin-off BUT..
This is the best spin-off in the series! a lot of stuff to do, the gameplay is so much fun (esp with 3D), the story & music are great. It even surpassed KH:BBS for me

fun to play
I haven't passed the game, but so far I have found the game very fun. the drop system is a blast, and I have enjoyed playing from both riku and sora's point of view with both having diffrent styles of playing. I would recommnend this game for any kh fan .... plus the 3d is awesome.
