description
The Nintendo 3DS is based on a custom Pica200 graphics processor from a Japanese start-up Digital Media Professionals (DMP). It has two screens; the top screen is a 3.53-inch 5:3 3D screen with a resolution of 800x240 pixels (400x240 pixels per eye, WQVGA) that is able to produce a stereoscopic three-dimensional effect without 3D glasses, while the bottom screen is a 3.02-inch 4:3 non-3D touch panel with a resolution of 320x240 pixels (QVGA). The 3DS weighs approximately 8 oz. and, when closed, is 5.3 inches wide, 2.9 inches long, and 0.8 inches tall.

The system features several additions to the design of the original DS, including a slider on the side of the device that adjusts the intensity of the 3D effect, a round nub analog input called the "Slide Pad", an accelerometer, and a gyroscope. In addition, there is an infra-red communicator port situated on the top of the unit.

The 3DS has two cameras on the outside of the device, capable of taking 3D photos and capturing 3D video, as well as a camera positioned above the top screen that faces the player; both cameras have a resolution of 640x480 pixels (0.3 Megapixel). The system also has 3D movie playback capability.

Compatible with both Nintendo DS and DSi games, and a new generation of 3DS games.

Sassy Purple
Easily my favourite color on the 3DS line. It's also much smaller than I initially expected, so that was a pleasant surprise.

A small note though - it comes bundled with an adaptor that's specific to USA only. If you're from another region you will probably need to purchase your own adaptor to charge it.

Beautiful colour
This is my 3rd 3DS unit after my launch date black 3DS which I've recently sold to a friend and my pink and white 3DS XL. This pink 3DS has got to be my favorite colour design of all. I got this 3DS to get around the region locking that all 3DS users who enjoy JRPGs are plagued by. I won this off the play-asia auction and it was an extremely pleasant experience. The unit works great and has a great library of games for me to choose from. If you enjoy playing JRPGs, then you should definitely buy a Japanese unit to complement your US/ EU/ AUS unit.

Exceeded expectations.
Finally made the plunge and bought Nintendo's newest handheld. I must say I'm quite impressed with the 3DS LL. The 3D feature works amazingly, much to my surprise, and is quite fun to play around with. The displays are also nice and crisp, albeit slightly pixelated due to the enlarged screens. The device initially guides you through the settings and UI is very intuitional.

All in all, an excellent piece of hardware.

3DS
I bought the Mysty Pink 3DS because one it's pink, and two because I want to play Japanese 3DS games and Nintendo decided to region lock the 3DS, which I think is so stupid. I love this thing. The 3D hurts my eyes, so I turn it off. I like how I can do that. Also, it comes with a 2 GB memory card, which you can, of course, upgrade.

It plays games really well and I would recommend it to anyone who wants a 3DS and have the ability to play Japanese games on it.

3DS a new console made in for a new generation
I a big Nintendo fince since i have memory, and this console really blow me out when all that new and originally stuff that include.

The augmented reality is realy cool, the camera detection and the 3D pics is amazing, the 3D effect is great and of course all the great tittles for 3DS make the console a master piece that do you have tu need.

The only thing better than a 3DS is a 3DS XL xD ^^

Awesome machine
This was an awesome machine to play my 3DS games on. The controls are bigger and the screen is much bigger and the backlight is better than my original 3DS. The silver x black color was a cool color and only exclusive to Japanese machines.

It's Big, it's Large, it's The Nintendo 3DS LL (or XL)
The Nintendo 3DS LL (or XL) is the second release in the 3DS line of portable game consoles, the screens are 90% larger than the original 3DS with better battery life, the nice thing about is the stylus comes out from the right side of the console and dose not need to be expanded, this japans release dose not come with a charger.

In general it's very good console, my only complain is that all 3DS models are region locked, which means I can't play Americans games on this Japans version.

That's it for the review, thanks a lot

It's amazing!
If you've owned a smaller 3DS prior to this one, you'll be blown away by how huge the screens are. In my opinion, the games do not look blurry at all (the might just a LITTLE bit but it really isn't that noticeable). The XL looks and feels great, the matte surface is really nice. I don't know if I can go back to my regular 3DS anymore!

Couldn't be happier.
Very fun to play with, although if you're new to the 3D, you may get a small headache for the first little while, and the region lock can get a little irritating. Overall, though, the fun that you get out of the 3DS far outweighs those problems.

This 3ds xl is much better compared to the normal 3ds with a bigger screen and better 3d graphics. The upper part of the xl is kind of shaky and unstable but otherwise it is a good device compared to the normal 3ds.

Better Than The Regular Model!
As an owner of both the original launch 3DS, and a 3DS LL, I have to say I much prefer and favor the LL. The sizes of the screens, the feel of the handheld, the look - just EVERYTHING has improved and is amazing - well worth buying. The only thing I miss is the telescopic stylus - but that's pretty minor. :)

Beautiful
I had a Black 3DS that I got before this color was released, when I learned about the system transfer and how I could keep my ambassador status I bought this one right away and it works perfectly.

The console is awesome, everything is high quality and its beautiful. The 3D doesn't hurt my eyes, but thats because I'm used to it now, it only hurts the first day, then the eyes adjust to it and its just second nature.

Excellent!
The next step up in Nintendo's handheld of 3DS to 3DS LL, much better bigger screen display and much more clear too, I find the screen is also much more vibrant than the original 3DS, and the anti-glare screen is a bigger improvement, so you no longer see annoying reflections as much while playing games. I was a little disappointed that Nintendo didn't include a AC Charger with 3DS LL, but I'm fine with it, I just bought another AC Charger to go with it.

Buttons on the 3DS LL is a big improvement, the Select Home and Start Buttons are actual clicky buttons you can press. The circle pad is slightly smaller and more round-ish than the original 3DS. Better longer life battery is much better too! Another thing I'm disappointed with is the audio output. While comparing the differences between the 3DS and 3DS LL was that the 3DS's Audio Output was much louder than 3DS LL's Audio Output when set to max, you barely notice it, but when you set them together side-by-side and in sync with some background music, you'll notice that one side sounds a little louder than the other. But that aside it's all good!

Zelda is finally portable...
I will admit that I was skeptical of the 3d in this system , atfirst. But, since I found this edition, I decided to check it out. The 3d feature is Awsome! The motion control targeting is sweet. Yes, I've been playing my Zelda no Densetsu: Toki no Ocarina 3d on it, but also have the latest Pokemon games (which utilize the 3DS features)!
And there is a growing list of games for the 3DS, as well.
Though, it is true that the Region-Lock can be a pain.
Otherwise, this is a great system.

Great handheld
It's a shame that the 3DS is region locked. I bought the NTSC-J system solely for playing Fire Emblem: Kakusei on it, I also own a PAL system. Very dissapointing that download play in games such as Mario Kart 7 doesn't work between different regions. It's like Nintendo treats their customers as cavemen who never leave their continent.
The build quality of the 3DS should be better. The d-pad is stiff, start/select buttons are hard to reach and less responsive then on previous Nintendo handhelds and the 3D slider is too loose. I also liked the stylus placement, matte colour and smoother form factor of the DSi more. All this issues seem to be adressed in the 3DS XL so I regret a bit that I didn't hold off with the purchase.

wonderful portable system
I'll admit, I was put off of the 3DS system when it first came out, and now that it's slightly more affordable with a better array of games I decided to go for it.

Play-Asia is always my go-to place for importing games and game systems, it's also where I got my mint green PSP 2000.
The color is beautiful white, and would probably not show scratches.
The hinge is sturdier than the DSi and the buttons are much easier to press, and have a less chance of getting stuck like I had with the DSi.

Its a JPN 3DS thats bundled with MHTri G. I would have not purchased this if Tri G wasn't included or if MHTri G was localised.

Buy only if you feel your a DIE hard MH fan and have other games with no chance of localization in sight.

I love this color!
So I finally caved in and bout a 3ds. I decided to get the purple. The 3ds is newer here and most of the games are more casual games from japan. So I decided to get this system instead. It is very beautiful. I was kind of worried about the 3d because I played with one for a few seconds in a store and it made my eyes water. I realize I was just looking at the wrong angle >

Good All Around
Works great for games, and it's also really handy for browsing the internet. The initial connection speed is much faster than my computer's, and although the browser is somewhat slow and gives fairly frequent error messages, it's not so much that it's more than a mild annoyance. I like the notepad and sound alteration functions, too.

I am a huge Monster Hunter fan and waited and waited for CAPCOM to announce a local versions for the US. That announcement never came. Soon as I saw this decent priced bundle, I had to have it. Japanese Nintendo 3DS (Ice white)
If you are familiar and love the DS then you'll love the 3DS. The 3DS comes with lots of pre-loaded content and even more free apps and demos in the Nintendo eshop. The Japanese 3DS offers 3D TV and lots of more demos as oppose to the American 3DS. This 3DS is a must have for importers since the 3DS is region locked but what the Japanese 3DS offers eases the pain from region locking. Overall, it's a good system with great potential.

Nintendo 3DS (Ice White)
In one sentence, I love this handheld. It is advanced yet simple. Has all the capabilities that you would like in a handheld. At the beginning, there weren't much games on it, but games begin to follow as time passes. Right now, there are so many hits and famous names such as Resident Evil and Zelda.
The built of the console is not great. The sound quality is good and now it supports the virtual surround system. The graphics are good comparable to that of the gamecube.
Overall , good gaming experience.

This next-gen handheld is a joy to own
This system is packed with features, and innovation. The augmented reality games are near impossible to describe to someone, you just have to see it in action. It can take 3d pictures, and with a software update it can also take 3d movies. I could go on ad nauseum about the goodies Nintendo has packed into this machine.

That said, the system does have some drawbacks.
The construction of the system feels cheap. The hinge on the system can sometimes allow the top screen to slam into the bottom screen, resulting in 2 vertical scratches on the 3d display. Invest in a protection filter.

The internet browser on this machine is quite frankly, broken. Until it is fixed I just cannot give this system 5 stars, however incredible and cutting edge it may be.

HTML5 and Flash simply do not work on it. Nintendo does not want their customers watching video content for free and playing Flash based games. What this means is that about 90% of the websites you like to visit just won't work on this machine.

If you're like me and like to travel light, this is a serious drawback. I don't like carrying around multiple expensive electronic devices, and Nintendo's decision to deliberately cripple their internet browser has ensured that my 3DS stays at home comfortably sitting on its charging dock.

I recently emailed Nintendo of America to level criticisms at them for this decision (their competitor, Sony, at least has a browser that works) and they basically told me to go pound sand. They have no intentions of making the 3DS internet browser work with modern websites.

Bought this for MH3G
If you don't already know, the 3DS is region-locked. This means that a japanese 3DS will only play japanese games. That said, the 3DS in general already has a decent library of games, with more coming in the near future. The actual 3D effect of the system is nice, but I keep it off to save battery. In other words, it's purely eye candy. Most likely, if you're already looking at this, you probably have an idea of what kinda games you want. I personally recommend it to anyone who likes VIDEO GAMES.

I have to 3Deeper, looks both good and bad.
I feel rather mixed about 3DS. The region lock is a real killer for a handheld console it's predecessor had not such non-sense. I don't think I can see the 3D effect right (I do not "feel it") even with full 3D effects, the buttons feel rather small and the slide pad doesn't have the kind of grip I have with say, PSP's analog stick.

On the other side of the coin it's got games I want to play and that's Monster Hunter. The games seem to look great in general, the wider screen is enjoyable and the Flare Red color really looks stylish. It's got plenty of random stuff, but I think I'll be just satisfied with the games the console's getting.
What's even better is that I can buy a local DSi charger and it will work with the Japanese 3DS just fine, saving me tons of money from power converters.

Maybe with time I'll get used to the size of the buttons among other flaws I am feeling with the console right now. I'd recommend getting the system, but choose the region-specific console wisely because otherwise you probably won't get much out of the console, even with the couple of funny Mii features and rather scant e-shop.

By far, one of Nintendo's worst systems
The system is really not all that great. There are very few American games that are worth playing, and the ones that are worth playing are generally games that are over a decade old.
If you feel like you must get a Nintendo 3DS, buy a Japanese one. Japan already has plenty of good games for the system and there are more great games on the way such as Monster Hunter and Hatsune Miku.

Got it for 3D. The effect works well, but may give some people headaches. Got it before price drop so I now have free virtual console games (not in 3D).

Playing Zelda OoT now, utilizes 3DS functions well, for eg accelerometer/gyro to aim your slingshot.

Test one first unless you don't mind 2D
Not to be a harbinger of bad news but the 3DS can give headaches and sickness.

This doesn't happen for everyone, but it did for me. I thought feeling a bit ill was due to my eyes not being used to it. But after having it for several months it didn't change, even if I had a break.

Conclusion: If the 3D is a big reason you want it, try it out for an hour first. This will give you a good indication on how it affects you.

The handheld is a very good system and the graphics look sharper in 2D, but if you can't play without 3D then just try it out.

I was originally skeptical on how this would look, much to my delight it looks amazing. It is otherwise the same as the Aqua Blue and Cosmo Black.

Generally not much to say that hasn't already been said, but the Flare Red feels more comfortable to hold and feels like it was built sturdier(buttons, sliders, analog etc). Not too hard to navigate through the japanese menus.

The 3DS itself is a great console. All the features are great.
Since I get eyestrain from the 3D mode, I play all my games in 2D. The resolution is actually higher playing in 2D (well, for Zelda it is), so you win either way.

If you're considering buying a 3DS from play-asia, I recommend it!

No cause for headaches/dizziness concerns
First off, the 3D effect is as spectacular as people say it is. It works great and looks fantastic. However, I have noticed some amount of ghosting, which is generally visible if you look for it unless you are at _exactly_ the right angle (both horizontally _and_ vertically); in some cases I can't completely rid myself of the ghosting effect - for instance, the magnifying glass in Professor Layton and the Mask of Miracles (apparently not available in the US?) always has at least a very slight double when it's resting in the background, even at the best of angles. As I say, though, if the angle is good, you won't notice it unless you're pretty much straining to find it. And it doesn't detract from how great the 3D is.

Also, contrary to some reviews, there actually is more than one angle from which you can view the 3D effect; one angle on each side. If you move away from a centered position, the 3D effect becomes double-vision, and then moves back to 3D as you continue to move away. After moving further from that, there are no more 3D positions. However, the non-center 3D-capable viewing positions aren't really useful (they're just a side-effect of how the parallax barrier technology works), as onlookers would have to keep that position even when you shift the 3DS slightly or something, which isn't practically possible. And the 3D effect is slightly distorted from those viewing positions, since the left/right images were really meant to be combined in an immediately-forward position.

You also need to have it positioned at just the right vertical angle in order to get the brightness/contrast right.

Headaches and dizziness are frequently-reported problems. Just reduce the 3D effect, duh. That's why Nintendo had the foresight to make it so easily-adjustable. Personally, I don't seem to be as sensitive to such things as some are, and view most things at 100% "3D volume". When I do find my eyes "working" to look at distant parts, or feel dizzy, I find it's usually because I'm holding the 3DS closer to my eyes than the recommended distance; just hold it back at the recommended ~1 ft distance, and it's usually much easier to handle. And if not, just adjust the 3D volume to around 50%. One Ars Technica reviewer said he prefers 30%. I don't like that as much, but the 3D effect is still very strong even at that low level.

Of course, if you're in a situation where the 3DS is going to be moving around a lot relative to your vision, you're going to end up wanting to turn the 3D effect off altogether. Have you ever played a game that got intense enough that you find yourself actually moving the whole controller as you press the directional button, in a subconscious attempt to make your character jump out of the way of something? Well, do that with the 3DS, and you'll quickly be seeing double again until you reorient yourself (I had this happen once or twice on Splinter Cell 3D). For such games, you may find it handy to turn off 3D during particularly intense parts.

Is the battery life as bad as they say it is? ...Yes, yes it is. For me this actually isn't much of a problem, I mostly play it at home, or for less than an hour each way on my work commute by train. For road trips, I'm sure a cigarette-lighter adapter will serve. But it will definitely be a factor for some people, and yes, it's really abysmal. Certainly, forgetting to charge it each and every day that you use it, will certainly be painful the next day when you discover it doesn't last long enough to enjoy.

As some others have said, the 3D camera is fun, but not useful. They are crappy cameras, just good enough to show off the tech, or play "augmented reality" games (like the ones that ship inside the device), but not good for taking actual photos with that you'll want to show. For that, you might want to have a look at the Fujifilm FinePix Real 3D W3 Digital Camera with 3.5-Inch LCD; I've ordered one already, but it hasn't arrived yet. Reviews on Amazon seem pretty positive, though.

I'm loving my 3DS, though I'm still waiting for the really good games to come out, or at least the Nintendo Shop at the end of May, when I'll be able to download my favorite GameboyColor Zelda games, and (I hope) various interesting demos, videos, and/or mini games.

A couple of minor problems that I haven't seen mentioned often elsewhere: the power button is too easy to access. Pressing it (say, when you meant to press Start) quits your game. You can cancel the "power off" action, but doing so only brings you to the home menu (without your in-progress game in the background), so it's effectively an instant-kill switch for games. Not cool. I'm hoping a future firmware update might alleviate this; it brings up a menu, so it has got to be software-based.

The other is that the 3DS could really benefit from separated user profiles. The combination of the 3DS not offering profiles, and the games themselves often allowing for only a single save slot (I _hate_ when they do that), makes it harder to hand it to a friend to let them try things out for themselves.

Amazing, but I got too used to DSi XL
This piece of 3D gadget is amazing. Because it really does give you 3D graphic without the need for glasses. But, because I've been playing with DSi XL for about a year and got used to it's large screen, this 3DS's screen feels small.

Apart from the screen, everything seem great.

Small, but packs a punch!
The 3DS is smaller than even my DSL, which is amazing, since the 3DS is so much more powerful and has a lot more features.

The graphics are a lot better, and the 3D part is definitely interesting. I have yet to play a 3D game, but so far I've had fun playing around with the preloaded games.

The 3D camera is also very nice. It was definitely beyond my expectation. I thought it was gimmicky, and maybe it is, but I kind of like it =)

The region lock thing really blows, because I play games from multi-regions. But it really shouldn't affect those who play games from one region.

3DS may strain your eyes, but still a good system.
First impression was WOW!!!
Then second thought after playing the pre-loaded games was meh...
Then played Pokemon Black in Japanese and I must say the games are what make the system great. With only a few 3DS games out, its still early to rate the system, but overall I am satisfied with the system. I wish it had a larger viewing angle because the 3D really strains my eyes.

This System is WOnderful
For me it is the best handeld since the original GB, what is great is that GB games will be available on it :D

The 3D effect is really stunning, you feel also the quality of the manufacturing courtesy of Nintendo.

I'm so happy with it !

An amazingly innovative console
Definitely get your hands on a 3DS. The 3D visuals are really great, and the console's built in features are enough to entertain you for hours (especially 顔シューティング and ARゲームズ). I was slightly disappointed that the console wasn't released with the eShoppe or the internet browser, but Nintendo has stated that these will be a part of an update in May

An unique and wonderfull system
It's like a mirakle, being able to see 3D without 3D glasses, and for me who use glasses in my everyday life is this very comfortable. Fun to play with the AR-Cards, and other inbuilt games. Highly recommended.

The only bad thing about it is that it has region block.

Best game system ever!!! Well, next to the NES anyway!
I ordered the Nintendo3DS back when it was first posted and didn't have a price yet. After it was posted, I still ordered it at the high price of $492! The Nintendo3DS is just something you can't explain or show, you just have to play it for yourself to see!

Although there is not a whole lot you can do with the 3DS yet, a lot of cool features and games have been announced. Setting up the 3DS and navigating it was pretty easy. The first thing I did was use the AR cards. They were pretty fun watching the system distort the world and shoot stuff. The face shooters game was really cool, didn't like the idea of shooting faces, but overall, cool. You move around and aim the 3DS everywhere turning and such to shoot faces. It is really cool to play this game in the dark! Nintendo finally added MP3 support for the music player which was nice. I wish it played OGG format as well. It was nice to know you DO NOT need the charge cradle or anything to charge it. I just plug it into my DSi charger.

Some announced features were the 3DS shop and DSiWare channels on here which is supposed to be here by May 2011 where you can download GB / GBC games (some in 3D) and videochatting. I hope they bring the Virtual Boy library to the 3DS as well. I was curious if this system was really regionlocked, well, I put in Pokemon Black & White versions from North America, they came up and played just fine. It may be different for 3DS games. My first 3DS game was Super Monkey Ball 3D which was definitely one of the best launch titles I have seen. It was short, simple, fun, great music, and everyone wants to try it.

Nintendo3DS is definitely the future of gaming and I recommend everyone gets one!

Used a Japanese AR-style cheat device on DSi
It allows you to play American DS games. Like the Region Lock on the standard DS games between foreign systems... you CAN still play all your games. When the AR is released in the US for the 3DS it will allow a bypass so think twice before buying 2 DS'

3DS is amazing!!
I was reluctant at first to buy the nintendo 3ds but the only thing I can say is that the 3D is really something, the system feels light and not cheap at all, great response with the controls and its a well played for nintendo new handheld. It doesnt matter where you buy it, but if you were doubting to buy the system DON'T it's worth it.

A promising system
Feels better than the DS lite. I don't quite like the gloss on the unit - it's everywhere. The 3D is pretty cool, though. If you haven't already, get games for it. The included content will keep you entertained for a little - being able to run the Internet browser in the future is going to be awesome.

My nintendo 3DS review
The 3DS is was the best thing to happen since the Nintendo Wii. The graphics are amazing in both 2D and 3D. When i turn up the 3D volume its like there's another room(when I'm at the right distance of course) ; the 3DS is truly impeccable...

Console of the Year
Knowing as regards the regional lock is a must-buy for every buyer of Japanese games. If the price is offensive but it's worth compared to other Nintendo portable design seem unrelated to the company. It is very beautiful. The whole industry will move in 2011 to 3DS
