description
Form the strongest team to defeat the Hagoromo Kitsune. That powerful fox spirit has been devouring people and usurping power since the Heian era, and Rikuo, the leader of Hakki Yayou (the march of a hundred ogres) is the one to defeat her.

Know the powers of your underlings and whip them out during the battle. Shatter, and collect stone fragments to call out the powerful ogres. The girls Yukionna and Yura are your supports, they will lend you a hand when the situation becomes dire and these two will never fail to watch your back.

Being thrust into the position of the head of the group needs some getting used to. Train your character and learn to execute skills in the training mode. And when you become so powerful that you can overwhelm the fox spirit, log online to fight champion teams from across the network.

Good fighting game for the PS3
Though I have never heard or seen the manga/anime, I am quickly hooked up by the game simply because I love fighting games especially when you can play it with multiple players. The gameplay is pretty similar to SSB though anime style and the graphics/artwork is topnotch.
This is a great addition to the PS3 library and I recommend this for the fans of the genre.
A+

Fantastic fighter; perhaps one of the best anime based games ever!
Hyakki Ryouran Taisen is a mix of SSB/Jump Ultimate, Battle Stadium D.O.N, Nuraihyon no Mago and a fighter, and the result is an outstanding anime brawler. The game comes with a variety of modes including Story Mode, Versus Mode, Challenge Mode, Training, Tutorial, Online Battles and other options like Settings, Gallery and Replay Theatre. As far as Story goes, it covers the Sennen Makyou anime series with some twists and stories for each character in the game (minus Setsura). These stories are played out by chapters in which the player enjoys some high resolution screens of the events going on in the story with a lot of character dialogue followed by a battle for the chapter. The game itself is (as aforementioned) a lot like Super Smash Bros/Jump Ultimate with a touch of D.O.N where you have a large map in 2.5D you can freely roam with your character and fight it out against the opponent. But there are added touches to make it more interesting with 2 teams of 3 characters each (4 player with 2 extra) duking it out against the other 3 man squad as well as a circlet of 10 support characters for each team with 110 collectible throughout the game to use in the matches to throw in an extra ability/attack. Combat is simple but very exhilarating and flexible, the controls include a standard attack, strong attack, assist 1 & 2 buttons, the right analog stick for the supports, L1 button for guarding, evading and guard-breaking and the R1 button for pulling off supers. The objective of a match is to get the "Fear" gauge located in the bottom center of the screen all to one side/colour, you do so by defeating an opponent or his teammates, the amount varies depending on how many "Shima" territory stones you have as well as the rank of the character in the battle (Commander-Leader, worth the most & Lieutenants-2 assists). Players have infinite lives since the objective is to fill the Fear gauge to one side however long it takes, and assists and supports can help collect Shima, add special effects/ailments or assist you in fighting. Challenge Mode is where you do missions in order to receive new supports (1/mission) along with Story Mode where you earn a certain amount of supports at the end of each person's story. Tutorial Mode teaches you all of the mechanics of the game and how to pull them off in battle. Online Battles have Player and Ranked Matches, Leaderboards and Replay Download options for the matches; replays can also be taken after offline matches and saved to the theater. The collectibles include music, artwork (character portraits and pictures, setting pictures and Story Mode art) and some other incentives. There are 14 characters in the roster, 13 story modes and 110 supports. As for the component ratings of the game: the graphics are glossy, with detailed and fluent character animations, the picture quality and resolution is vibrant and pristine with lavish 3D-manga style settings that are really stylish and unique and great artwork, however, the models are a tad frizzly and the frame rate can drop on some of the animations on rare occasions, but all in all, the graphics are a 9/10. The story mode takes several hours or more to complete and has a lot of detail on all of the individual characters' stories and perspectives, but there is hardly any voice work in the story and is mostly dialogue with character portraits, some artwork and music playing. If you are familiar with the story, you will get the gist of all the events transpiring, however, given that the game is told in different perspectives with twists for each character, some plot elements will be different, or omitted to balance the stories and if you don't understand Japanese, you will be curious about what directions the events are taking in contrast to the anime/manga. In the end, the story earns an 8.5 for its scope, detail and new takes on the familiar arcs. The gameplay is solid and the controls precise, providing simple yet flexible combos to pull off with a diverse set of moves for each character; assists and supports really help spice up the battles and make it an insanely fun party game/brawler. The simplicity of the fighting engine may be a hindrance to some however, as people can pull off some devastating combos without too much interference or ability to counter that well, and unlike Smash Bros where you can evade forward and backwards, the forward guard dash is a charged guard break whereas the back guard dash is an evasive maneuver, so if you are trying to avoid guard break or getting caught in a deadly attack, if you are facing the wrong direction, it might catch you off. Also, since 2 buttons command your assists to attack, there are only 2 direct attack buttons, but there are still plenty of actual moves for each direction you press either button providing ~8 basic attacks that you can use for combos and incorporate with the help of assists and supports. The extremely frantic, strategic and exciting mechanics still warrant a 9.5/10. Tutorials and training provide a good amount of options to help improve your game, but the language barrier takes some adjusting, but given how straightforward and helpful these options are, it makes for a 9.5/10. The audio is very clear with great voice work in battles, but the music can range from beautiful to irritating, and even monotonous in story mode where you may here the same song about 6/7 times or more depending on the chapter/character/event, but it balances out to a 8/10. The online is fairly smooth for the most part with not that much lag even with such chaotic gameplay, and there are good options for how you play online such as co-op training, ranked matches, player matches (up to four players), leaderboards and a replay theater providing decent but ample options for a solid 8.5/10. The difficulty is just right with a gradual increase in challenge as you progress through the story or challenges, however, some of the final challenges can be a little frustrating and possibly cheap, but it ends up being a 9.5/10. Lastly, the interface is very welcoming with an exuberant and delightfully dark ayakashi style to it, remaining true to its themes and styles of the series with very over the top displays and menus which are very appealing for a 9.5/10. Overall, this game is a 9/10, it is thoroughly enjoying, has a lot of content to keep you busy, great gameplay, some great songs, interesting story additions, alluring interface, smooth difficulty range, fantastic multiplayer, helpful tutorials and beautiful graphics and art. The main faults are a limited roster, some minor graphical flaws, unbalanced quality in the music, minimal voice work & animation for story, standard modes and some annoying challenges. In the end, this game is still a must buy, if you are a fan of Smash Bros, Jump, D.O.N, fighters, Nura, anime, or just simply want a fun game to try out with friends, you definitely must get this game. ;D

A nice fighting/platformer for Xbox!
Nurarihyon no Mago is a fighting game close to Super Smash Bros. or Jump Super Star and a great addition to your collection. The game has a good amount of content, graphically beautiful, nice story and an amazing gameplay (also playable online)!

I strongly recommend this game for fans of SSB.
