Otomedius Excellent offers a generous amount of pretty magical girls and fighter crafts. Since it's first launch in the arcades, the game has garnered a huge fan base.
In Otomedius Excellent, you can enjoy a new story when you play the single campaign, and when the stages get too punishing, you can recruit up to 2 helpers in the Multiplay offline mode.
Of course, if you have your Xbox Live account, the game would be even more fun, as you get to play against the best shooters on the network and grab new contents as you proceed through the game. New characters, stages and BGM will become available through downloadable packs, so you'll never be bored with the Otomedius girls.

Parodius > Otomedius
Gradius spin-off which doesn't do the series justice.
Weapon/upgrade system is all there but is used in bland & confusing backgrounds where it's often hard to see enemies and targets.
Girl's voices get annoying very soon too.
I hoped for this to be a patch on Parodius but it falls short by a million miles.

Great game for old school shump fans
The Otomedius franchise is not a well know name in the US, but in Japan is a love letter for the Gradius fans, a group of girls in high speed machines fight against some ramdom aliens. It doesn't have the best story but at leats the fast paced action and style is there. Also this package includes a really nice soundtrack.

Nice Wacky Shooter
Otomedius Excellent is unlike your normal shooters. The animations are colourful & gorgeous akin to Parodius graphics. If you are a fan of these games like myself, you wil love it!!!

Let's face it,
This is especially for those who remember GRADIUS franchise. Gaming itself isn't very distinctive, however,
the fact that your favorite genre shooting game is available matters.
Buy this if you feel you're truly fan of shooting or
Gradius.

If you loved the first Otomedius, then you'll def. feel right at home in this new installment.
With 2 new characters to fill the character roster, improvement in graphics and sound effects, it really isn't a no brainer that this Otomedius features lots of new stuff.
In short, if you like shumps and you're looking for a cute and fun shooting game, then Otomedius G and Excellent should be your choice of weapon ;)

Nice distration
Otomedius has dropped the original arcade "choose your own level" progression for the Gorgeous structured storyline and selectable forcefield (a staple in the original arcade). New characters mix up the upgrade and selection of skills, with one having a completely remapped upgrade route (meaning Double and Shield are to the front) drastically changing gameplay dynamics.
Ultimately easier than Gorgeous, Excellent instead continues the parodies and is accessible even to novices playing at expert level thanks to infinite continues. Graphically overwhelming at times, a few play throughs will teach you which background animations are ignorable; but Erul Tron's chaotic mayhem still is quite nightmarish. Practice mode allows bounding box learning, as per markp73's comment. For fans of anime more than the Gradius/R-Type as bullet-hell never gets your adrenaline pumping enough.
Recommended for fans of Mine Yoshizaki and Parodius, who will find the artwork and jokes very appealing

Well, this is better than Otomedius G: but so is toothache. Fiddly, frustrating and frequently unfair: it is a game that you have to memorise enemy patterns rather than relying on your skill.
It looks, well... excellent, truly beautiful, but often this is a disadvantage. Trying to avoid tiny white bullets against a bright waterfall background is nigh impossible. The bosses are dull and cheap and despite putting many hours into this game I still can't work out where the characters' hitboxes are.
Gradius V really gave this series a kick up the backside and is truly brilliant, but the Otomedius games almost remove all of the good work that it accomplished.
If you love the Gradius/Parodius series, then you will probably get some fun out of this, but despite really trying to enjoy it, I just found it a chore to play.

Otomedius Excellent is nothing less than the true successor of Otomedius Gorgeous. If you like Otomedius G, you will like his sequel. Same gameplay, same dynamic but with a new story (new levels), new girls, great animations and a good Xbox Live mode. For the newcomers in the serie, Otomedius X is nothing near the japanese bullet hell style, it's cleary the legacy of Gradius (like Paradius). Even at expert difficulty, the game is pretty much simple, beginners will be able to enjoy the game.
