The hyper kinetic frenzied BlazBlue revs up towards it's 3rd fighting game release in BlazBlue: Chronophantasma! With revamped gameplay mechanics and four new exclusive characters: Bullet, Azrael, Amane Nishiki, and Izayoi, as well as the return of Mu-12 and Nu-13! Continue the fight in the direct sequel to the events of Continuum Shift! In addition, use the "Overdrive" system to use character specific buffs and activate the "Crush Trigger" to destroy any opponent. Some gameplay mechanics has been removed from BlazBlue: Chrono Phantasma to give way to new mechanics, such mechanics that has been removed are: Gold Break Bursts, Guard Primers and their individual storylines. BlazBlue: Chrono Phantasma’s characters sprites have also been redrawn and refined for a better look of the overall game. Several new songs were also composed exclusively for the game. If you own a Vita and like this kind of fighting games, you should have it.
Chronophantasma serves to prove that Arc System Works can still make a perfectly serviceable fighter, even after so long without changing the main formula much. The combat feels very fluid, and the Overdrive system is interesting to play around with.
BlazBlue has also been a series with a story mode pedigree, something that's no longer so rare. It stacks up rather well with the competition in comparison, but suffers from long battle droughts before a boss rush of perhaps 3-4 battles in a row at points. Instead of the previous system of having a different story per character, the story mode is split into three main viewpoints, and then split into segments. This is a clever decision to cut out repeated battles, but the segments vary wildly in length, with many being incredibly long and others being rather short.
The game remains mostly untouched from the console version, with a brief moment of new (fanservicey) content, which is rather easy to miss or not find at all due to its' placement in the 'previously in the story' segment, but true to what ASW told us to expect, the graphics, mainly the resolution of the character portraits in the Story Mode are degraded a notable amount, something kinda disappointing but not major.
All in all, a perfectly good fighter, which is ported well but, all in all, is inferior to the console version.
This game is truly one of the best fighting experience, the PS VITA can offer. Nice graphic, fast gameplay, solid audio, and great game value ensures this game a spot in every vita collection. The only things which are not so great is the lack of actual japanese audio and son somewhat long loading screens. Still, if you a fan of this franchise, a anime fan or just want to play a good game, this game is for you.
Same level of quality as its console counterpart.
For me, it's really amazing have all the Blazblue game on my handheld. Very solid gaming, a huge variety of game modes: Arcade, history,challenges, trainning,online...
For my the challenges are one of the best and most difficult. You should try the game is you like fighting games!
