Episode 1 “From the Edge of Night”
The year 1853, Holland. A group a children dressed in black clothing appears before young Conrad Rugen. They are “The Children of B?fort” and they have come to take Conrad with them, but he adamantly refuses. The year 1901, Claremont. The Children of B?fort have finally found the location of Serafine, the woman they have been searching for. But when they get there they find that she has already passed away. Time passes and it is the year 2012. A boy named Thoma, who lives on a small southern island called Papin Island, meets a girl named Helga. But there is something about Helga that fascinates Thoma…
Episode 2 “Wayward Feelings”
The year 1901, Conrad Rugen discovers x-rays. But the Children of B?fort don’t believe that this historic discovery was the result of mere chance and they fear the repercussions. The year 2012, the Children of B?fort are still searching for Tina’s soul. But they only retain the memories of their past for 11 years, and they don’t have much time left. Elsewhere, Thoma finds that he can not stop thinking about Helga, who has been taken back to the orphanage. Thoma searches for Helga in the shopping district on Natsuna Island. At the same time, Helga and Chitto have once again escaped from the orphanage and are boarding a train leaving the city.
Episode 3 “The Place I Want to Go”
A detective named Cooks arrives at a house on Sanceli Island to ask some questions. Detective Cooks is investigating the disappearances of several children 6 years earlier and their connection to the Children of B?fort. Meanwhile, the escaping Helga and Chitto are captured by orphanage personnel at Wattfort Station. In order to separate the two returned runaways, the director arranges to have Chitto transferred to another orphanage. While he is being transferred the boat that Chitto is on is hit by a racing speedboat. Chitto uses the accident as a diversion and escapes. He is then rescued by Thoma who happened to be close by when the accident occured.
Episode 4 “Shinon”
Thoma and Chitto head for the orphanage to rescue Helga. But when they get there they find that it has been surrounded by government agents trying to capture an escaped prisoner. Taking advantage of the confusion, Thoma and Chitto successfully get Helga out of the orphanage. However, while they are escaping through the forest someone who appears to be the fugitive calls out to them for help. The woman, who looks very weak and old, says her name is “Sinon” and she tells them that she is actually 24 years old. Trying to find some sense of security, Sinon holds onto Helga’s hand. This makes Helga experience a feeling that is very familiar though she doesn’t know why…
Episode 5 “Kokkuri Island”
Near Papin Island is Kokkuri Island. It’s a small island that Thoma uses as his hideout. Thoma brings Helga and Chitto to the island and enthusiastically goes about taking care of them. But Helga still treats Thoma with cold detachment which eventually causes him to lose his temper with her. Meanwhile, Detective Cooks is at a police station in Nohedge on the Eastern Mainland hearing the mysterious story of a man who returned home when he was supposed to be dead. That is where the performance inspector, Alice Hollingworth, finds Cooks when she comes to ask him some questions. But Alice is not the only one who’s come to check on the progress of Detective Cook’s investigation…

Over the course of many years in many different lands a group of mysterious children called “The Children of B?fort” have been seen time and time again. They spend long months and years traveling from place to place searching for one particular girl.
In the 21st century, a boy named Thoma lives on a small southern island called Papin Island. He meets a girl named Helga who is captured and taken back to the orphanage she ran away from on nearby Chikao Island. But Thoma, together with Helga’s young friend Chitto, devises a plan to free her. However, when they get to Chikao they find that government agents have come to the island searching for an escaped prisoner!
Elsewhere, Detective Cooks, a police officer assigned to the case of a missing child, is intrigued by a connection he finds to records and events dealing with “The Children of B?fort.”
