Fire Emblem Fates: Birthright is an absolute delight to play, from the battlefield to the bedroom. If you loved its predecessor Awakening, you'll enjoy the heightened tension and intimacy imbued in every moment of Birthright.
Selecting from your dozens of fighters and coordinating your assault is a delicate dance, and forces you to agonize over every move. There is an embarrassment of riches in terms of character selection--there are archers, healers, casters, aerial wyvern riders and sky nights, and a handful of different kinds of melee combatants, each with their own personality.

Truly great turn-based strategy game!
Another brilliant FE game! Now, however, the story is divided in 3 parts: Birthright(1st), Conquest(2nd) and Revelation(3rd).
Birthright has the easiest plot and is also great for those who has never played this game franchise or genre. Conquest is recommended for those who has some experience with the game, but it is still recommended to be played after Birthright, as it may answer some questions from Birthright. Revelation is something of between the previous two versions and it obviously reveals all plot mysteries.

It's honestly great
As a player whose first Fire Emblem game was Awakening, Birthright was a very good fray for me. The difficulty is definitely above Awakening, but not too much that it alienates new players.

Meanwhile, the new mechanics--the modified weapon triangle, the new pair-up system, and the accessories--are simple enough to approach, yet presents itself with enough depth to require a certain amount of time to master as the missions go by.

I wish not to spoil anyone with the story, but I can say for certainty that the story is good enough to be at least on par with Awakening. I personally found myself more invested in Awakening's story, but Birthright lends itself to a classic formula that works well in its favor.

All in all, it's an excellent entry into the Fire Emblem franchise that does well to answer the high expectations Awakening left.
