description1963 is the year before the Tokyo Olympics. To display an image of glamour and prosperity to the world, the country was busy pulling down old buildings and replacing them with the new. One of the buildings threatened to be demolished was the Quartier Latin, the social club building in Umi's school.
At first, Umi was indifferent to the fate of the Quartier Latin, however, things change when she met Kazama Shun, the leader of the opposing movement. The relationship between the two developed as they fight to preserve the building, however, when Kazama saw a family photograph of Umi's, he realized that they could be blood related.
Adapted from a classic shojo manga of the same name, the film brings back the nostalgia and the warm, bittersweet feelings of first love. Studio Ghibli is known for pulling off magic. See the sparks that fly off in Poppy Hill.
