Item Description
Aksys chose a rather appropriate date to release Hakuoki: Demon of the Fleeting Blossom in North America. Their romance game will arrive on February 14 aka Valentine’s Day.Hakuoki follows Chizuru Yukimura who travels to Kyoto in search of her father. When she arrives she meets the Shinsengumi,a group of young men who keep the streets safe. Just in time too because strange things are going on, but somehow Chizuru still has time to find the man of her dreams. That’s the game’s core, after all.If you’re not familiar with Hakuoki or the otome genre read our interview with Aksys where Frank "Bo" deWindt II and Ben Bateman speak… passionately about their work.

Great Visual Novel Game
This game does a good job mixing historical events with fantasy. The year is 1864, and Japan is internally struggling on whether or not they should come out of seclusion and enter the international arena, and also debating what to do about the Shogunate.
The story surrounds the Shinsengumi, a real police force that existed during this time. Throw in some Japanese mystical oni characters, some vampires, and you've got yourself Hakuouki.
The illustrations are beautiful, by Kiyone Kazu. The voice cast is great, and the music is beautiful.
A Classic.

A beautiful game
This game is what got me into the otome game scene, and I have yet to come across a game that is as charming and in-depth. The storyline can be heavy, as the whole game takes place during times of internal strife and war.
This game does a good job of mixing history with fantasy. The voice actors are stellar, and the music is beautiful.

Good graphic and character design. But the user interface is poor and it's annoying to switch to the meaning of the vocabularies.
I think this "software" is a visual novel instead of a game.
Most of the stories are sad because of the historical background.
