descriptionThe life of Henry Kissinger provides a lot of material for a fascinating and historically relevant film. In his life important stages of the last century become unveiled: youth in the Third Reich, exodus of Europeans to the USA, the Cold War (secret travels to Beijing and Moscow), wars in Asia (Vietnam, Cambodia, East-Timor), coup d’etats (Chile), crisis in the Middle East. He has been on the margins of the biggest scandal of the USA in domestic affairs (Watergate). Nevertheless, Kissinger witnessed the downfall of President Nixon at close range. It slipped the mind of most people that Kissinger once has been a symbol for a liberal social life during the 1970s: Showing himself with Hollywood actresses he temporarily got the standing of a bon vivant. As a politician he was honored (Nobel Peace Prize 1973) and hated. Like only a few living personalities Kissinger is both, a historical witness and a political decision market of the 20th century. Even today he is using his influence: He supports the military engagement of the USA in Iraq and was one of the personal advisors of President George W. Bush.
For the first time Henry Kissinger speaks openly about his exciting life. And so do others: George W. Bush, Helmut Schmidt, Alexander Haig, Brent Scowcroft, James Schlesinger, Carl Berstein, Norman Mailer and many more.
