description

Once again, the most brutal off-road racing festival is back, and this time the ‘Stormers are bringing the extreme MotorStorm® festival to a major metropolitan city ravaged by a gigantic earthquake. Developed by Evolutions Studios exclusively for the PlayStation® 3 (PS3TM), MotorStorm®: Apocalypse brings back the signature MotorStorm racing madness but this time the racers must deal with the unpredictability of a crumbling urban environment. Filled with unstable skyscrapers, fiery subway tunnels, twisting bridges, and collapsing buildings, the almost completely abandoned city offers the perfect playground for MotorStorm’s electric brand of brutal street racing. Fully customize your collection of vehicles, including supercars, muscle cars, and superbikes, and face down your fellow ‘Stormers as well as a city where destruction awaits you at every turn. With tremors and aftershocks continuing to hit the city in real-time, players will be faced with making quick decisions in a landscape on the verge of total devastation. Welcome to the apocalypse, MotorStorm style!

A great addition to the franchise
An earthquake imminent.

A city evacuated.

An aircraft carrier full of racing maniacs and their vehicles.

Mix it together and its an awesome recipe for high speed mayhem. After the last Motorstorm release I didn't have high hopes for MS:Apocalypse but it has been well worth the wait.

The game feels much more balanced and is a bit more challenging to get to grips with. The earthquake tremours dynamically change the racing conditions and track layout while you are in the middle of racing which requires you to pay more attention and think fast! It's also a little frustration that just as you think you know the paths to take a building comes crashing down, a rift opens up and you have a new direction to learn all of a sudden.

Controls in the MS series have always felt somewhat sluggish and unresponsive. Maybe this was a way to help balance the difference in characteristics of the vehicles which range from offroad bikes to big rig trucks. If they were more realistics the game just wouldn't work and wouldn't be fun. Still it can be a bit frustrating at times to be unable to take a tight corner the way you want because the vehicle is too spongy or you have to brake to almost a stop to make the turn and let everyone else past.

Still its a heap of fun to play, almost as fun as the original MS but not as easy. A good variety track layouts and different paths to explore. Lots of vehicle types of course and added loonies on the track which can add to the fun. The dynamically changing tracks do add a lot of interest and it'll take a while to fully explore each track. Tons of replay value!
