description

Play-Asia.com says:

Hilariously fun ride which feels like a mixture between a sports drama and the IRON CHEF TV show. Some pacing issues.
--- When their father dies and leaves an inheritance, brothers Ricky (Timmy Hung) and Mike (Wayne Lai) forge a partnership to bring the thrills of Osaka wrestling to the Hong Kong dining scene. But opening their restaurant is no simple matter and challenges come from all sides: Ricky's ex-boss Dragon (Law Kar-ying) from the neighbouring restaurant mounts an offensive against the upstart business; stranded Japanese journalist Kyoko (Miku Ueno) joins the team after Ricky bumped her into Aberdeen harbour and put her in a hospital; and the restaurant's small troupe of wrestlers isn't up to wowing ringside diners, when any book tables at all. --- I’m not much of a laugh-out-loud person, but this movie made me burst out in fits of laughter on a several occasions. I really enjoyed the cultural blend of Japan and Hong Kong in this film, and it created a few great wacky moments, the Chinese brothers trying to speak Japanese to a couple arguing at the bus stop comes to mind. This movie had a great blend of slap stick, romantic comedy and over the top characters. The acting is excellent and each actor plays their characters well, from Chu-Chu-Pong’s fruity nature to Kyoko’s hatred of sausages. It if weren’t for the film spending too much time setting up the characters and plot up which leaves even less time for the body of the film to develop, I would have given this a perfect score. A hilariously fun ride on the cultural rollercoaster. RECOMMENDED -Adam Kitano
