The Wii Remote is your most valuable defense- strategically dismember enemies and solve various engineering puzzles to carve a bloody path to survival.
This is indeed Dead Space on the Wii! People have scoffed that the Dead Space experience could be created on the lesser tech of the Wii, and as a rail shooter, of all things!
They needn't have worried, however. This is definitely a full-fledged Dead Space game. There are a lot of story scenes, and the rail shooter dynamics change things, but really add to the game as well - being pushed along against your will (through pivotal series events), and having to take advantage of brief pauses to snatch your breath, grab some items and prepare yourself for the next assault.
The downside of all this is that... it's not really that scary. The lesser graphics affect that, and there is less terror, I think, in not being able to truly decide yourself on whether to move forward or not. However, this does not stop the rail shooter from being unbelievably TENSE. It will grip you from start to finish.
As with other games of this type, one's stats are tracked and displayed at the end of a level to encourage replay, and in addition there are weapon upgrades and text/audio logs to be grabbed throughout the long levels, as well as multiple paths. There is a lot of game here.
All of it is wrapped up in a nice package with great graphics, a sympathetic group of characters with good voice acting, and a thrilling musical score.
It's very hard to be disappointed with this game, a great achievement on the Wii.

Redefines the on-rail experience It's probably been said in various reviews but Dead Space: Extraction really does redefine what an on-rails shooter is. On-rails it may be, but Extraction allows an unprecedented amount of control in the game:
1) The game occasionally allows you to stop, take control of the camera and pick up items.
2) The boss battles are amazingly interactive in nature -- instead of just standing there and shooting, the game has you use the gravity gun to pick up objects and perform certain actions to complete the level.
3) In some levels, you need to shake the wiimote to activate your glow worm light stick, making these sequences extremely intense.
Overall, an excellent game well worth the money. The story should also be interesting to Dead Space fans as it fills in a lot of the backstory before the original game.
