description
33 years of onscreen fun and interaction: This book presents almost every game computer and console ever created, from Japan, USA and Europe, along with classic software in its authentic, pixellated glory, and background information as well as key technical facts.
More than 400 dream machines and million sellers, bizarre slip-ups and exotic variants are celebrated in full colour chapters with extensive appendixes. From Atari to Xbox, from the C64 to Nintendo DS: Game.Machines is the reference point for members of the PlayStation generation; whether theyre gamers or collectors.
Originally published in Germany, Game.Machines has been recognized as a `suitable reference´ and `recommended reading´ (by Germany's premier micro monthly Ct), as `very entertaining´ (Gamestar) and `compulsory reading´ (PlayZone) or simply as `Ace´ (ComputerBILD). Two years in the making, this greatly enhanced and revised edition invites you to a time journey across the video game era: From the 4-bit beginnings to the broadband future.

Made me want to spend my life savings.
I have to say that right off the bat, if you consider yourself a game enthusiast or at least have some sort of respect for gaming systems in general, this is a great little book to have.
Not only has it served me well on public transportation trips, coffee/lunch breaks and bouts on the toilet, it also... wait, well, I guess that's it. It provides an amazingly wonder amount of information (plethora, if you will) regarding game systems dating back to the Magnavox Odyssey. It even catalogs the timeline for each system and its iterations (for example: the Genesis and all of its different versions like the core system, Genesis3, etc.).
The book is constructed very well, high quality paper, and the pictures are right on the money. I question the "star rating" for each system, but I don't really count that either.
Truly a "wealth of information".
