The popular Naomi board arcade 2D fighting game Melty Blood: Act Cadenza finally appears on PlayStation2. Melty blood makes use of widely used concepts in fighting games such as cancels (cancelling an attack before its animation ends, then beginning another, allowing for more complex and damaging combos) chain combos (normal moves that can be link without the use of cancels) and the use of power bars (called Magic circuits in-game). Magic circuits serve more purposes than just allowing the execution of special moves. Chain combos are much easier to perform in comparison to other games, and it also brings other interesting features like simultaneous impacts and dash shielding among others. In addition, it brings the original concept of Shielding into gameplay.
The PlayStation2 port contains two new characters (Aozaki Aoko and Kishima Kouma), as well as all other characters that were also found on the PC version "ReAct". Also included is a survival mode, training mode, special mode and a PS2 original mode. Melty Blood has been elected as the most popular arcade game by the Japanese magazine Arcadia in 2005.
Fantastic 2D Fighter! I know fans of Fighters, Anime, and Games with Fantasy elements will definitely love this game as much as I do. The characters are all very attractive and have a wide variety. The combat is somewhat tricky at first to get combos down pat but it is VERY fun to learn new combos and characters styles. BUY IT BEFORE IT'S SOLD OUT!

?! I played this for awhile... and it feels and looks really good... for a few minutes.
The cast is not too terrific almost half the characters are copycat sprites with two or three diffrent moves.
This is also a very broken game for a couple of characters have absolutely no chance against others.
Graphically I'm not one to complain, the sprites look good but need to be anti-alaised, the profile art is pretty bad for a fighting game, not that it should matter anyway but it really bothers me.
I feel wrong playing the game, alot of the moves make me feel really really cheap for using them.
It's alright to play with a few friends but you'd be better off with GGAC or SFIII.

Finally got it I had been debating if I should get this game for quite some time. I'm sooooooo glad that I did. It's the best fighting game I've ever played.
I also would like to thank Melty Blood for introducing me to Tsukihime (The visual novel Melty Blood is based on) which I now worship, lol.

Get this if you can't get the PC version This is a MUST BUY if you cannot get the PC version that just came out. This can go up to version B. The characters are awesome, combos are VERY loose, and the graphics are great. Stages are interesting, and there is a story mode. Overall, this is tourney worthy, and again, the more people you have to play with, the better you will become, the better the game play experience!

Great Fighter Really cool game, and a lot better than the original PC version. Fighting engine's been updated giving it a more natural fighting style. Totally worth it; get this game ASAP if you love good fighting games.

Another Rare Classic If you are into 2d fighting games you must get Melty Blood the gameplay is great. The control might take some time to get use to but once you learned everything in the game you will have some fun doing crazy combos on your friends. Music is pretty good to the story i have no clue since i'm not japanese.
If you are looking for a good import to get then get this game now.

Ooops . . . Melty Blood has to be the freshest 2d fighter I've play in ages. Sure KoF and Street Fighter modeled what 2d fighters were all about, but they've past their prime in many ways. The older games were a revolution, now the series' are trying to stay alive. (Granted KoF is doing this far better than Street Fighter)
It fills a gap in 2d's that is desperately needed. Those who, like me, have played through the Doujin game, read the manga storyline, and watched the Tsukihime anime that came out by Project-Moon, this game is an absolute item for both collecting and playing.
The frame rate, sprites, sounds, and voices are perfect. The storyline of some characters will make you laugh, others leave you shocked and apalled, while some leave you sympathetic to their sad stories. The character depth is extremely deep, though the game in no way continues anybody's plot.
For 2d fighter lovers, this is an absolute must buy!

Fluid fast 2d fighter! Great 2d fighting game, very fluid animation, great fun, well worth the money. If you are a fan of 2d fighting games, you should have this already!

One of the best 2D fighting game ever!! Lucky me!! I finally got my hand on this jewel of gameplay and fun!! ^_^ This title, unlike the sprite graphics show it, is a real thing!! You can do incredible combos (though they are harder to do than GG XX Slash...) and the simple commands let you concentrate on your timings and enjoy the heat of the battles!!
Plus, the sprite animations is deep enough compared to games like Street Fighter 3 (though it's still the best when it comes to animation)!!
There are many things to unlock so you'll have to play for a long time!! ^_^
Finally, no need to say I highly recommend you to purchase a copy of this game!! Simply amazing!!
Shonen in the heaven...

Fans (like you) will love this game! For those who played Melty Blood and ReAct on the PC version (and especially Melty Blood Act Cadenza on the Arcades), then this game will be a must have in your collection. New modes, new characters and a tons of secrets to be unlocked, this will definitely a game you'll play over and over again!

Best Fighting Game Ever Okay, that's saying a bit much but who cares.
Tsuki-Hime & Type-Moon fans who've been playing Melty Blood Re.ACT -Final Tuned- will eat this game up with the addition of Aoko Aozaki & Kishima Kouma but also with the fact that the game has been refined from its PC version to help balance out its game play. Just about all infinites known in this game are just about useless now so this is not for gamers who don't like them
Anyway, if your a newcomer to Melty Blood, don't let the bland backgrounds & sprites of the game fool you, this is a solid & entertaining fighter that shouldn't be miss. With the crap load of other fighters that has been released this year (KOF XI & Guilty Gear XX Slash being exceptions to this), Melty Blood is breath of fresh air in a somewhat lacking genre this year.
If you like any of the 2 games I've mentioned above, this one should be another on your list. It doesn't get any better. Oh and Melty Blood was not a doujin game, its fully endorsed by Type-Moon making it an official game in their works list. Watanabe Seisakusyo, the group behind the game engine & creation, is now an commercial group also & their called "French-Bread" now. Google it for more info on the companies and & Melty Blood.
This is Hideki Motosuwa from Anime Toshokan Inc., signing off!
Izilan on 24, Aug. 2006 14:44 (HKT)
Solid This game just is solid all the way through.
Don't listen to the balancing issues that previous reviews speak of, infinites were resolved and no longer works.
Tom on 22, Aug. 2006 07:27 (HKT)
Perfection This is game is so bad ass! KOF, GG, and SF suck compared to Melty Blood, imagine how far this 'amature work' can go. Buy this if you like 2D fighters, you won't be dissapointed.
stepheneasty(12) on 19, Aug. 2006 18:25 (HKT)
A great fighting game But not worth owning if you have the PC versions of the game.
If you have never played melty blood then get this its a top class fighting game
Kinderdijk on 17, Aug. 2006 14:30 (HKT)
Interesting newcomer. Far from perfect. Broken gamplay including infinites and overpowered characters in the gamerooster.
But good music and interesting characters.
Definately too early to make comparisations to either KOF or the unmatched king, Steet Fighter 3. Keep in mind that this series was originally a project made by amaturs. Pretty gifted amateurs.

good fighting game Very similar to the computer version of Melty Blood ReAct. They added 2 new characters and a parry move (sort of like SFIII's counter). Except you can activate it by pressing a button, it also dranks ur super meter.
Game is pretty easy to pick up and but can get really deep as well. Kinda wish they had spick up the backgrounds and character animations. Visually, it just doens't compare to other fighting games like Guilty Gear or Street Figther III yet.
tachibanamutsuki(1) on 15, Aug. 2006 12:28 (HKT)
Melty blood ftw I fully agree with you on this one
Melty blood makes those 2 look like a joke when the fighting begins.
aservantoffate(1) on 09, Aug. 2006 23:40 (HKT)
Best. Fighting game. Ever. Melty Blood owns fighting games period, screw Guilty Gear and Street Fighter, SNK's King of Fighter's finally has an equal.
