description
WILD ARMS 5 follows the journey of a group of young travelers as they try to unlock the mysteries of their ravaged land and unknowingly become involved in a struggle that will decide the fate of the entire world. In a small town called Capo Bronco on the outskirts of Filgaia, two youths, Dean Stark and Rebecca Streisand, witness an unbelievable event -- the giant arm of a golem somehow falling from the sky, clutching a girl named Avril. This chance encounter inspires Dean and Rebecca to travel with Avril across the wastelands of Filgaia in hopes of helping her regain her lost memories and embark on a journey that will eventually decide the fate of all mankind.

Alternate Wild West
Another JRPG game with wannabe heroes and minstrels with memory loss, sounds almost like the other hundreds (?) of RPG games out there. The story is predictable and the characters are stereotypical and the game is actually good.
As you can see from the summary provided by Play-Asia, its more or less a tale about saving the world. What's a RPG game without a battle system? This game's battle system is similar to every other RPG game where enemies and allies take turns to swipe each other in the face, but there's a catch here. You can't go firing blows as you wish.
In this game, battles take place on a HEX grid, with most battles taking place of 7 hexagonal sections. Its slightly like a SRPG but when you get used to it, its not much different from a turn based battle system. The real mechanic here is that characters need to be in certain hexes to attack, depending on their weapon. Dean can attack hexes adjacent to him and Rebecca fire all across the grid, provided she is placed properly and some characters do not have any limitations at all. Also, for attack magic to work, characters need to stand in certain hexes which have elements in them as normal magical attacks have no elements. Its not difficult once you get the hang of it, but it kind of slows down the battles.
The character designs are great, particularly for Rebecca. Her battle stance is kind of cute and her expressions really shine. The graphics on the other hand, looks real bland especially when traveling on the world map but improves when in dungeons and during battle.
The version of the game that I received from Play-Asia is the 10th Anniversary edition which comes with an artbook featuring characters from Wild Arms 1 through 5, which was a nice surprise as it was not mentioned in the description and especially since it is limited in quantity. Get it before it runs out.
