description
In Okami, the legendary monster Orochi has come back to life and turned the world into a wasteland. To restore the earths natural order and beauty, players assume the role of wolf-embodied sun god Amaterasu and participate in numerous action packed battles against the ominous beings they encounter. However, conquering these impending enemies is no small feat. Amaterasu will travel through different regions of the world to regain her "Celestial Brush" powers, all the while revitalizing everything in her path. Using an innovative control scheme, gamers can slash away at enemies, use various brush strokes to solve puzzles, create pathways, chop down trees or turn night into day. The real-time fighting system not only involves assorted brush techniques, but also myriad of specials attacks typically not associated with the physical prowess of a normal wolf.
Featuring a visually stunning art style, Okami comes alive through beautiful scenic 3D levelsthat have the appearance and texture of paper scrolls brushed with watercolor-like calligraphy art. Throughout the vibrant and distinctive surroundings, players must also interact with a dynamic cast of characters, building their faith to uncover clues andhints. The blend of stylized graphics and unique gameplay will result in a rich and dynamic experience never seen before.

Still holds up in the age of HD games
The is one of those few games where you can spend hours just watching your character run around and not accomplish any of the mission objectives. The art is fluid and arresting, with great transition between moves. You can feel the love the artists put into this game, and watching animals move.
The storyline itself is fun and full and allows you to wander on your own for quite a bit. Might a bit hand-handing for some people, but it's not overly annoying. Lots of cute movie sequences with some interaction from the players, and allows you to skip some sequences you've seen as well. Rewards you for paying attention to detail, but doesn't punish you as long as you fulfill the objectives. Great balance and classic. Pity the studio folded.

A literally masterpiece
If you are a respectable gamer, you must buy Okami. It isn't a game for everyone, but will be long remembered as a title that did much things to the history of games: Innovative art, the idea of motion controls even before Wii appeared (it was a PS2 original), and a compelling story based on Japan mythology. The Wii version adds more to the game, as you can now paint with a motion control for real and the game is now in wide resolution. A Zelda-alike game that is very funny and compelling!
Pros: Painting techniques and the opportunity to know more about Japan myths in a fun game. The Wii version adds motion control.
Cons: The story could be more deep. The Wii version sometimes has bad control issues on battles.
