nice comeback from FFX-2. excellent graphics and gameplay. should have just jumped from FFX to this one. as always, you'll get absorbed into the whole story of final fantasy. i really liked the artwork.

Good roleplaying game
So far the game has lived up to expectations. Detailed graphics, reasonable storyline. Interactions are a little stereotyped, and I'm not *convinced* about the battle system, but I think this game has space to grow in complexity as I progress.

redemption for FF
i actually told myself i would NEVER play another FF against after the disaster that was FF X-2. after countless praises from friends and holding out for TWO YEARS, i finally caved into the pressure and got myself the cheapest copy available in 2008. better late than never. FFXII was a great RPG. square finally went back to their old roots. other than the lag from the spell queue (incredibly frustrating), FFXII is pretty much RPG perfection. i do have another minor gripe about the method of obtaining a zodiac spear though. HOW ARE YOU SUPPOSED TO KNOW NOT TO OPEN TREASURE CHESTS??? that's just mean square... low blow.

Simply Amazing
I've played the japanese version way before the English version, and first impressions...AWESOME! Although you have to have at least some knowledge in japanese, I found the navigation quite easy and you get use to the menu after a few hours into the game.

Man, if they only realease it on PS3....... I hope they can at least make some square enix stuff on PS2 cuz ps3's are so expensive and hard to get. I could only hope.... Only hope....

Best one since FF7
Wonderful graphics, with 80 to 100 hours of gameplay (if you fight around a little to level up every now and then). The only four-star part is the story, which is developping very slowly and tends to run in circles at times. Other than that, possibly the best game on the PS2, and without a doubt the best RPG since 1997's FF7.

Final Fantasy XII
There is no better way for a game console to end its career than with jaw-dropping, earth-shattering, genre-altering games that you must buy. Now. The PlayStation 2 can boast just that with the final instalment of Square-Enix's flagship Final Fantasy (FF) line-up before the series makes the jump to the PlayStation 3.

Taking place in the world of Ivalice, players assume the role of Ashe, Vaan and their friends out to save their country. The highly politically motivated storyline is a big change from the series' save-the-world formula, and is an indicator of the developer's push towards more ambiguous character moralities. Applaud the full voice-overs that increase the depth of the characters to bring out their moral dilemmas. The game becomes that much more believable when you can hear the depths of anguish from Ashe or the mocking laughter of Cid as opposed to textual "hahahas". And it is a credit to the developers that the English voices are equally as brilliant as their Japanese counterparts.

But long before players notice the story, or anything else, they will be wowed by the realistic, beautiful graphics. Previous FF titles have always pushed the graphical envelope, but Final Fantasy XII (FFXII) is one of the few titles that can boast an in-game graphics engine that looks as amazing as its pre-rendered CGI scenes. It is not impossible to find areas where you will stop and simply stare in awe. Players of previous FFs might be surprised that FFXII does away with the random battle system and brings them a fully real-time battle system. Enemies can be seen on-screen and either flanked or avoided entirely.

While players can choose between this new battle mode and the more traditional turn-based one, the introduction of Gambits -- a set of instructions for the player's AI party -- offers powerful and reasonable alternatives to play the game with the real-time system. These Gambits are earned through the course of the game, and allow for increasingly more complex but intelligent moves for the AI to make, such as the ability to first heal dying allies. Unfortunately, Nobuo Uematsu, who did most of the iconic music for FF's previous titles, contributed only one song. But the introduction of fresh talent creates a new tune set that makes the game sound fresh, even as old songs like Mas De Chocobo are heard.

Is there anything not to like? Perhaps the rather obtuse and overly difficult Licence. This new system takes over the sphere grid, and requires players to purchase licences in order to use items, spells or weapons. Unfortunately, users can only see a limited range around their current licences, leaving those who refuse to cheat with a lot of guess work. But that does not make the game bad. Far from it. The level of uncertainty coupled with the real-time system creates a game which plays very differently from its forebears, but still maintains its pedigree -- a role-playing game (RPG) with a moving story and fantastic cast. As a swan song to the PS2, nothing could be better.

A GREAT MATERPIECE
This game is the best one I have never played before.The grafics are SIMPLY BEAUTIFUL and the story is as good as FF7's one.The musics are nice(even if they haven't been written by uematsu).The gameplay is very good and finally the characters are sympathic.This game has made me dream.

Final Fantasy XII Good Game less than stellar story
It's funny how lamented this game is. There is a solid depth to gameplay and some of the most beautiful graphics I've seen to date. However, the game suffers from a serious lack of story that never truly gets fulfilled. Whereas most other Final Fantasy games pull you into the world the characters inhabit, this one just exposes you to the pretty scenery and rewards you with a hundred plus hours of fighting. The characters never get developed beyond the field of "this is..." fill in the blank and then you pretty much know what you have until the end.

It's a fun game, but tedious to get through. But it for the graphics, for the gameplay, and the phenomenal score. Just don't expect much out of the story. Truly not the best Final Fantasy in the series in my opinion. Of course, I've been playing them since number one so maybe I'm a bit biased.

Game of the Generation?
This is a true Masterpiece, and probably one of the best RPGs/Games that I have ever played. Thank you FFXII Staff for making a classic.

fantastic game with depth to the gameplay with around 100+ hours gameplay to be had here, enjoyable all the way, music, voice acting, graphics, gameplay etc all top notch, if only they had the option for the original japanese voice actong as an option it would be perfect.

Final Fantasy 12
while certainly not the best final fantasy game in the series, this game does have a lot of enjoyable quirks to it

firstly the game is on one disc, it will take on average 40hours to complete, the graphics are fairly nice, the game feels more like an offline final fantasy 11, but that isnt a bad thing, gone are the screen shattering random battles, now we have real time battling as such.. the battle system is fairly easy to understand.

this is one of the best rpgs on the playstation 2, but not the best ever in the series

the voice acting is fairly unique, you"l notice that the actors come from a wide range of real life tv shows/anime productions

The BEST FF game IMO
If you played FF12, then you have just felt like you played FF11 Online. Yes the battle system is similar to FF11, and of course, is based on Vagrant Story's. The music is excellent for a non-Nobuo Uematsu composition, and the scenes are simply to die for. FF12 raised the bar and set a new standard. BUY IT.

Best RPG Since Chrono Trigger for SNES
Hands down the best RPG since Chrono Trigger for SNES. There really isn't much to say but even if you don't speak a bit of Japanese...you can get through the game.

It's already been offically announced that the US version won't be as hard...if you want a very challanging RPG buy this.

It has a flippin' boss with 50,000,000 HP that takes 4-18 hours to beat!

the Fantasy has a turn..
I do enjoy this game... I' am fluent in Japanese, and cannot find a thing wrong with it...! Why did I give it a 4/5? well... the battle system kinda ticked me off, and thats just bc im used to traditional gameplay, and such as that! Its pretty odd at first and irratating, but u will get used too it.

Other than the weird battle system, its nice..! its a whole new world, lotta explorations to see, and its just unique... and You'll like its graphics, but its unfortuant how its not on PS3, bc they graphics can be pushed, that much more.

there's lot's of different weapons to choose from, like the long samurai sword,ninja swords,spears,staffs,rods,guns, and more.this game is very fun!

Final Fantasy is back!
Just wonderful!!!! Even though I don't understand any japanese, I love this game!!! I don't get tired just walking around in these beautiful landscapes and amazing sceneries.
The monsters are great, some of them are so cute - I can hardly fight them! ^.^ (I love these little Cactus-guys!!!)
You can buy it now in japanese and get a translation at gamefaqs.com - but it's also worth waiting till November to play it in english.

Great game, average Final Fantasy
This game is for sure a great game and it's really worth playing it. Best graphics so far, great soundtrack, pleasant playable caracters, and a huge world. but I think the plot is disapointing, flat and suffering from a real lack of fantasy and imagination. You never get suprised during the game, except from the beauty of the landscapes of course. Other weak point is the vilains. the judges have really been screwed. And I don't even speak about the final boss. I await much more from a final fantasy than that. the battle system is not that bad but I prefere much more the traditional one. I think sakaguchi is really missing, there are many small things that belong to a final fantasy game that are missing in that one.
But overall a great game, didn't just fit to the title. but that's just my point of view. Is worth to play it anyway.

Totally mind blowing.
At first it was very hard to get into but after the first 15 minutes this world is going to totally own your life. You just want to keep going and going, it almost feels like an MMO. The battle system is the greatest battle system EVER in an RPG; I love going around and fighting monster to monster more then any other RPG’s, it just feels right this time. All devs need to take time on there games like this, this is truly a next-generation game now. I hope FFXIII uses the same battle system.
