Great Game!

This game is a great and successful sequel of the Tales of Symphonia. Like expected, the graphic is well done, the gameplay is so much better but the World Map isn't like it used to be. That's why I find it the only negative thing about this game and that is the new World Map. Other than that, It's a fantastic game!

¸Ô²Ó´yz
The story of Tales of Symphonia is independent from the other installments of the extensive Tales series. The game is set in a country called Silvaland, which shares a paradoxical relationship with nearby Teseila in which prosperity for one means suffering for the other. The story begins with Silvaland descending into ruin with its only hope being a teenage girl named Colette Brunel. As a descendant of the Mana Tribe, Colette has the power to restore Silvaland. This blue-eyed blonde is accompanied by her friend, a teen boy named Lloyd Arving, who was orphaned at a young age and raised by dwarves. Later, they will be joined by a white-haired twelve-year-old mage with the odd moniker of Genius Sage.

Tales of Symphonia is the first of the series to be in full 3D; even the traditional Linear Motion battle system are not spared from this graphical change.

    Cool Game for ps2
this 2D game is really fun to play. the story of this RPG game won't make you bored to play, always make you want to continue playing. ;3
it has some alternative ending. so it's enjoy to play more than one playthrough to see some different ending.
the music background sound is also good :D

Tales of fans must have this game ^^

    Wonderful game!
A wonderful sequel to Tales of Symphonia. The battles have an enjoyable flow and you can enjoy it no matter how many times you play. The graphics have also gotten better compared to the previous game. The voice actors of the characters are all talented and well-done. The monster system is strange and new to Tales, but it proves to be quite enjoyable, allowing you to collect and watch your monsters get stronger.

    PlayStation 2 review.
Just making sure that this is for the PS2 version of this game (only released in Japan, thus is NOT in English).

Coming from the PAL Tales of Symphonia (which is in the slow 50hz in terms of gameplay), this game is marvelous. It flows so much faster, the battles are wonderful, and it has extra features from the GCN version such as new Hi-Ougi's/Mystic Artes, and new boss attacks. I recommend this to any Tales fan! I'd suggest playing the English version first if you don't understand Japanese.

    Best RPG on the Wii!
I've never played Tales of Symphonia on the GameCube before, but I've always loved the Tales Franchise, so I thought I'd give this one a try. Plus, I want a great RPG game for my Wii. Please keep in mind that I'm playing the Japanese version of this game, with the original cast including Kugimiya Rie as Marta. My opinion on the English version of this game is really different, especially in the sound departement, because of the horrible english dubbing.

Story: As I said, I've never played the original Tales of Symphonia on the GameCube before. So I can't compare it with this game. I've got to say I love the story in this game though. It's long, and you'll be spending a lot of time looking at a cutscene. One interesting feature I love in this game is that whenever you press C when standing and doing nothing, a box will pop up and a random conversation between the characters in your party would come up. They'll talk about the current situation and their graphics is anime-like. The character's expression would change according to their dialouge of the current situation.

Gameplay: The battle system is awesome. It's real time, but you don't really have many attacks to perform. A button's a normal attack, up to 3 combos. Joystick and B button's a normal Arte attack (some kind of special attack) and C button is for a higher Arte attack. I just love the fact that it's real time. There're no wild random encounters on dungeons. You can see the monsters instead, and can choose to fight them or not. It's hard for levelling up, but I like it better than many random encounters. They've added a Monster capture system, where you can capture a monster and train it, feed it and make them fight in your party.

Graphics: It's pretty good, but it doesn't push the Wii's limit. But it still looks great! Especially on cutscenes.

Sound: Many reviewers complain about the English Voice Acting of this game. And after hearing several videos on the english dubbing, I've got to say it's really, really terrible. As for me, since my Wii's Japanese, I got the Japanese version of this game, with the original casts such as Kugimiya Rie as Marta (she's one of my favorite voice actresses ever, and she voiced Shana from the Shakugan no Shana anime). The original Japanese dubbing really fits the personality of each character. It's really awesome, and sound is a big factor in this game since almost all cutscenes are voiced. As for the game's soundtrack, it's pretty good. I love the opening theme.

Characters: On an RPG game, characters are important. And I have to say that Emir, the main character is annoying. Really annoying. But I kind of got used to that. Marta is awesome, so she covers the annoying Emir. Character development throughout the game is superb. Character development is deep, which is important.

This game turned out to be what I was really looking for. I love the story, I love the characters and I love the voice acting. The game have many long cutscenes, which I love. Overall this game gave me some 100 hours of fun. Definitely the best JRPG on the Wii. I'm reccomending this game to anyone, even those who haven't played the original Tales of Symphonia.

    Tales of Symphonia
If you only play RPGs on the Game Cube, then you have probably played this game and thought it was THE BEST GAME EVER. But is it really that great of a game? Lets find out!

Gameplay: ToS plays like most RPGs; you walk around in towns and go to different towns by turning Godzilla size and walking through a world map. When you encounter an enemy, you go into a battle. Unlike most RPGs that don’t have “Tales of” or “Star Ocean” in their name, battles in ToS happen in real time so its almost as if you are playing a fighting game. Unlike previous Tales games, ToS’s battles take place in a 3D field, so you are allowed more movement through the battlefield... sort of. Like previous Tales games, you are only given movement left and right, so you can only move through the field in 3D if the enemy you are locked-on to moves. Although “free-run” was not invented yet, characters set on AUTO can run anywhere they want.

Graphics: ToS has pretty good cel-shaded graphics that make it look very anime. Theres not much to say about the graphics since they’re not very UBER in any way.

Sound: The music is pretty good even though it sounds like cheap midi.

Final Rating: 8.5 out of 10. This isn’t exactly the BEST GAME EVER but it’s still a fun game. ToS’s easy access to 4-player mode made it one of the best multiplayer RPGs of its time.

    ToS
Tales of Symphonia was the game that introduced me to the “Tales of” series. I first played it with my friends. The first time I played this game I played as Kratos, who was able to use sword based skills as well as magic skills. The battle system is pretty much the same as how it is in Tales of Eternia, except everything takes place on a 3D plane rather than a linear one. The 3D field, and also the ability to jump backwards, made it easier to evade many magic skills. Despite the battles taking place on a 3D field, you are only allowed to move in a line, while the computer-controlled characters can move freely in any direction. This made it annoying because the only way to get around things was to move against the edge of the field. However, this did not really hurt the battle system. The battle system was still fun, but it was not as challenging as Tales of Eternia’s battle system. The music isn’t too bad, but it could have been better if it were orchestrated. The graphics were very good for a cel-shaded GameCube game. Also, I really liked the character designs for the main characters. They story was very clichéd in the beginning, but it got more interesting as the game progressed. At first, Lloyd and his friends go on a journey to “regenerate the world” but that all changes when they found out the truth behind the existence of the co-existing worlds Sylvarant and Tethe’alla.

Beautiful Game but not import friendly to the new
Some would argue that you could easily just browse through the scenes, speaking to random NPCS, sure that would work, but then it would take time, as once you leave the main village you wouldnt know where to go

Anyways this game is fully Japanese, and is one of the best RPG games ive ever played

the only god for bid way you could possibly play this game without knowing the language would be to get a strategy guide, and try your hardest to follow along side the scenes, or by getting a gamefaqs guide, even then you wouldnt have a massive amount of enjoyment, and the items will still be an unknown

Tales games have always be excellent, im sure this game would make a great project to those learning japanese, what better way to reward yourself for learning then language then playing one of the best rpgs ever made?

check this game out, really i think its awesome

and by the way play on any mode besides the default one, the default mode is so easy 95 percent of bosses wernt even a challenge, try Mania if your an experience RPG gamer :)

    Good, yet...
The game has a great battle system, it is large, has nicely designed cel-shaded characters and locations, as well some really likeable characters and sometimes an agreeable and charming atmosphere. Yet, it has a crappy scenario, an even crappier dialogue, and some of the characters are so bad that you would wish they never set their foot on your tv. Good, but could do better.

    Average RPG
This RPG has many flaws in my opinion, and I can only surmise that the rave reviews about this game have been written by hardcore anime freaks. The game is very annoying, the main characters are so irritating you almost wish you could control the bad guys so you could kill them all. The story is so badly constructed it makes me cringe just thinking about it. It's as if the writers were going to any lengths just to make the story longer, the end result being a ludicrous tale with more twists and turns than a bad soap opera, abound with contradictions, loose ends, and simple stupidity.
The combat system which boasts up to 4 person multiplayer is not bad, if you don't mind the facts that the camera follows player 1 leaving the other 3 players to fight off the side of the screen imagining what they are doing, and the fact that the other 3 players are going to be doing a lot of waiting around while player 1 delves deeper into the nonsense that makes up the storyline.
If you really love rpgs, anime, and don't care how much a story gets butchered, go right ahead and buy this game. Otherwise, save your money and valuable time alive, and play something else.

This is a very stellar port of the GC version. This port was brought about due to popularity and petition actually. Not only is the game just was awesome as it ever was for GC it now has new features. For those who don't own a GC this is the way to go. Also this is much cheaper than the GC version. The game feature the best battle system of any of the Tales of games made. This is much better than the newest tales of game(Tales of Rebirth).

    The Best RPG Ever
I've played a lot of RPGs, but this is the best TPG ever created by some margin. The emotive storyline, characters and real-time battles make Tales a long game which is a pleasure to play from beginning to end. I haven't played a game so much in a week and a half - almost non-stop - since Metroid Prime a year and a half ago.

If you have even a passing interest in games, then you won't got wrong with Tales. I just hope that Namco release another Cube sequel.

    So the PS2 version's here...
Great game, but generally a weak port of the GameCube original.

This version features greatly increased loading and memory card access times, a lower frame rate, and low resolution, blurry graphics. Considering the PS2 is weaker hardware than the GC, and that the original was designed to take advantage of the GameCube's superior features, it's not terribly surprising for these technical shortcomings.

I believe the loading time could have been greatly reduced if Namco tried implementing some kind of native hard drive support, for those who have one.

To attempt to make up for these shortcomings, Namco added some extras to the game. Whether you think they make up for the lackluster port of the game engine is up to you. They don't for me.

I'm only going thorugh this to see the extras, then I'm going back to the superior GameCube original version.

An RPG with everything you need and then some: non-random encounters, action battles with up to four players, cel shaded graphics, lots of voiceovers, and beautifully drawn anime cut scenes. Asking for more would be hard. A godsend for the RPG-starved 'Cube.

    Best RPG
I brought this game with limited edition GC. The game is fantastic and seems to allows multiple players play at the same time (although I haven't tried). This is highly recommended to all RPG fans.

Oh yes it is that good
The first thing I heard about this game was when I saw in some sales figures that in this one week the Gamecube had outsold the PS2 in Japan - and people were saying that it was this game that was responsible for it.

If you look around, you'll find some indepth reviews on the web. What it boils down to is that it is the best RPG currently available on the Gamecube (in my opinion), and is definitely well worth the buy.

For the Japanese version I'd suggest you have some understanding of the language before buying it - you can get through the game without knowing Japanese, but it's pretty likely you'll get stuck a few times if you try it. Even knowing just the kana will help you out a lot.
