Tales of Destiny Tales of Destiny was the first Tales game to be released in the U.S. and it got some pretty bad reviews at its time( mostly because of FF7’s ZOMGBESTGAMEEVER-ness). ToD doesn’t really do anything beyond the capabilities of average RPGs, but that doesn’t stop it from being a great game.
Gameplay: Being the second Tales game ever made its pretty obvious what the battles are like; SLOW, SLOW, and SSLLLOOOWW. But the battles aren’t really that bad even though they are slower than ToP GBA( at least from what I’ve played). Like ToP for the SFC, you cannot do 2-hit combos by pressing the A button or whatever-the-A-button-would-be on a PS1. Pressing, or mashing, the A button will result only in one slash, which can vary depending on the direction you press with it. ToD takes the first step to modern Tales games by giving ToP SFC’s skills-that-are-determined-by-your-distance-from-the-enemy the boot and replacing it with press-the-B-button-or-whatever-it-is-along-with-a-direction-to-use-your-skills.
Sound/Music: ToD has some of the best music in the Tales series. Rebel Against Destiny=WIN
Namco being lazy and not putting English audio was also pretty cool.
Story: Its okay from what I have played, but the script is not as good as it could have been. The script/dialogue is at least better than ToP GBA’s, so that’s a good thing.
Graphics: They’re decent.
Final Rating: 9/10 because the music and JP audio makes it auto-win. Why? I don’t know. It just does :)
