Not THAT great.
People talk about Earthbound all the time but I really don't think it lives up to the name.
I think the thing that separates this game from other RPGs is the fact that it takes place in a real 1990's time which for the time was a new thing and when seen, usually done poorly. This game actually does it quite well.
I personally didn't really get into this game, but everyone else did, so I gave it a 4 star.
This game requires reading Japanese.

A true gem...
Mother 2 is the best of the series and the funniest RPG for SNES!!!

MOTHER 2 is an excellent game!
Know as EarthBound in the US, the game suffered poor sales due to a bad marketing Campaign by NoA.
Regardless, this game is a Cult Classic in the US, and has quite a large fanbase ever since Super Smash Bros Brawl was released on the Nintendo Wii.
The games true selling point lies in it's unconventional style. Unlike other RPG's of the time, (an today for that matter...) MOTHER 2 takes place in a Present Day setting with modern towns, cities, and communities. Also, in place of Magic, the character's use Psychic abilities. Another unconvential part of MOTHER 2 that makes it such a gem, lies in the games humor. MOTHER 2 doesn't have the same kind of dark story that most RPG's have, and is laden with many jokes & parodies of other common RPG stapels. The game is heavy on pop culture referrences, which is believed to be one of the reasons why the game has yet to be released on the Wii Virtual Console.
A welcome addition to any gamer's collection, and certainly not to be missed.
No RPG fan should go through life without even a single playthrough, the game is simply that good.

this is the greatest game ever. Also known as mother in the U.S. this game has so much re-play value it is un-real. It is often over looked because of the crappy graphics.
