A Better Tomorrow (Run. Time: 95 Min.):
Mark (Chow Yun-Fat), a man of honour in a world of dishonour. As the sidekick to his former gang brother Tse-Ho (Ti Lung, Blood Brothers), Mark finds himself out of favour when his boss is sent to the slammer. Ho comes out of jail repentant and is determined to turn over a new leaf for the sake of his policeman brother, Kit, (Leslie Cheung, Farewell To My Concubine) but his old arch enemy is equally determined to take him out of the picture.

A Better Tomorrow II (Run. Time: 104 Min.):
The sequel sees Tse-Ho (Ti Lung, Blood Brothers) working together with brother Tse-Kit (Leslie Cheung, Farewell To My Concubine) to help the police break a counterfeit syndicate. They discover Lung (Dean Shek) is in danger of being killed by his employee, Ko, who is masterminding the counterfeit operations. They send Lung to a former assassin-turned-restaurant-owner Ken (Chow Yun-Fat) in New York. Everything boils to a fiery climax when Ken brings Lung home to face off with Ko with the help of Ho and Kit.

A Better Tomorrow III (Run Time: 119 Min):
Chow Yun-Fat (The Replacement Killer, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon) reprises his role as Mark who picked up his skills with blazing guns in Vietnam under the tutelage of the tough-as-nails Kit (Anita Mui, Rouge). Kit falls for Mark but the latter, knowing that his cousin Mun (Tony Leung Ka-Fai, The Lover) is in love with her, sacrifices his love for her. But the return of Kit’s ex-boyfriend Ching brings things to a head, especially after he bombs Mun’s new garage.

A Classic Trilogy
I bought this trilogy because I´m a huge fan of John Woo And Yun-Fat. I never saw this movies before I ordered this box set. Let me just say that you won´t regret this movies. They´re very well written and very well acted. For me, the second one rocks and steals the show. The first one is also great but nowhere near as violent as the second one. The third one, not directed by John Woo, is a good thriller that is overshadowed by the first two. It´s a more slow movie with a little more of character development.

Best ever CYF? ... quite possibly!
This is quite possibly the ultimate CYF experience (with possible exception of 'the Killer'). Not since this one has he put such a memorable performance into a role. Picture quality grainy in places, but doesn't spoil the pleasure. some of the english subtitles are funny as the interpretor has obviously translated word for word rather than language and phrase. a must for John Woo fans, CYF fans and Hong Kong movie fans in general. Buy this set with confidence and knowledge of getting a good deal.

Does it get any better?
I looked forward to this set very much. Having owned the US versions of ABT I & II, the quality was not very good. I have to say that that the top-notch packaging of the set was a good indicator of what was contained inside. The movies looked sharp & sounded great; definitely an upgrade from the ones I owned. The extras were also a treat. The only criticism I would have is that the English subtitles are a little choppy structure-wise. I would not let this stop me, though, from recommending this set to others. This set really does justice to the ABT trilogy.

As a huge Chow/Woo fan I was really looking forward to this especially as the uk releases have been quite poor. The boxset itself is exremely well made for a start and definitley defies the price of the set. The box states that the film is digitally remastered, unfortunately the picture is quite poor, very grainey and looking like a port from VHS. It does come with 16:9 and dolby 5.1 tho. The films themselves still hold the test of time and reminds us of just how cool chow really was then , to recent viewers of say...Bulletproof monk this may come as quite a surprise. ABT 1 and 2 are both excellent examples of films that started the heroic blood shed genre, while the 3rd is nowhere near the standard of what has came before, it is still worth a watch as long as you dont expect a classic.
