No title

The hardware itself is quite good and the image and sound quality on the provided games is like the original.
However, I tried 3 japanese games on this "Megadrive" and none of them played flawlessly :
- Mickey and Donald World of Illusion : playable but the main character graphics are a mere stock of pixels ...

    Avoid
I bought one of these from another shop and I desperately want that money back!) This product is terrible, I experienced nothing but problems with sound and the image quality was poor. It seemed the only "working" game was Flicky which is essentially an 8bit game. This product seems to play 8bit comfortably but the Mega Drive is a 16bit console... and evidently it cant do it. The built in games don't work as they should, changed music, changed soundeffects, very strange framerate in comparison to how the games are meant to play... I tried my old Mega Drive games on it, with similar results. I own a couple of NTSC carts and a large majority of PAL carts and have fiddled around with the switch on the back but with no improvements either way. Avoid this at all costs, there are other options and this one shouldn't even be on the list.

    Excellent Console!
Well except for the sound, Otherwise this console is great! I have not encountered any of the issues that many people have had. The games are fun to play and the controls look like a real Sega Genesis 6 Button pad. Everything is comfortable in my hand. I tried two games, NHL 95 and NHL 97. At first I got a black screen in NTSC mode but flipping the switch in the back from NTSC to PAL took care of the issue. If you are running games like Sonic 3 or Ristar or 6 Pak, flipping the switch in the back will get the games to run. Again the only issue was the sound but the console itself is great! I will take this along on hotel trips!

    Sound Issues, but good overall
I had a pretty good experience with this thing. All the built in games work great. All of my Genesis games work on this except for my Konami games (Ninja Turtles and Rocket Knight Adventures). The only Mega Drive game I had to try was Daze Before Christmas which works perfectly. That was actually the main reason I bought this since that game does not work on my Genesis. As stated by everyone else here, the sound is the biggest problems. Some games have worse sound than others.

Overall I think this device and it does what I need. But unless you really want those 20 games or need something to play Mega Drive games, it's hard to recommend this.

    - Buy it with consideration -
This is indeed a very nice and neat console to obtain and add to your Sega Megadrive/Genesis hardware and gimmicks' collections..

However, I would advise collectors to get a real decent Megadrive here from play-asia or from your used and second-hand store to run you original collections of Sega carts. Believe me, you don't want to risk your carts' backup ram system by utilizing the 'save' feature with this machine…

My only advice is to get it only if you like collecting Sega Megadrive licensed spin-offs, or planning to build an official more compatible 'RedKid' cart library released by 'AtGames'.

Bad sound and low percentage of working carts
I've had a very low success rate when trying out megadrive cartridges, both pal and japanese. They boot up to a certain degree then crash. The sound on the emulated games seems off too. That said, some of them are excellent but why no Sonic 1, 2 or 3?

    not recommended
It is very small and light, controllers seem flimsy and breakable. To quickly summate, it IS cheap, but you seem to get exactly what you pay for going by my own experience and other reviews here.

    Felt ripped off
Well I got the Twin Pad Player but have felt majorly ripped off, I mainly purchased the item so I can play cartridge games as well as having some other games built in. The built in games work but the system shuts down every few minutes which is a joke. Also no matter what game I try to play from cartridge all I get is a black screen.

    Sound Problems but good value.
2 of my games didn't work, namely Sonic 3 and Toy story because of the lockout chip, and a few had graphical problems.
My only major gripe however is the music and sound effects are off key and just sound wrong. It seems they used a different sound chip or something. I'll have to play those on my original megadrive...
The onboard games are fine and work well.
I would recommend this to anyone that wants a portable mega drive, as it is very small, but not someone expecting a perfect replacement sega as it is not that at all.

    Excellent!
It's cheaply made, sure, but it's a fully working, new, licenced Megadrive!

Unlike the other reviewers, I had more success with the games I tried. I tested it with around 30 titles, some each of Japanese, US and UK origin, and only had two problems. One was the UK version of Street Fighter II SCE, which worked but crashed once during a fight, and the other was with the Japanese version of Ghostbusters, where the main character's graphics were corrupted. I then realised it was still on PAL mode, and after switching to NTSC Ghostbusters played file.

Also make sure you clean the contacts on your cartridges! I had a few fail to work until I did so. Not surprising really as some hadn't been touched in 10 years or more.

    Great deal, some bugs.
The Presentation is nice, the system comes with a manual in both Chinese and English. The controllers feel nice, but the cords are a little short. The machine feels well constructed, but is very light weight, so, you can expect for it to slide around a bit during play.

The built in games are nice, not amazing, but they aren't the bottom of the barrel either. For cartridge play, I find the slot to be a little big, so inserting a cart takes some wiggling. I guess this is because it needs to accept a bunch of different formats. Some people have reported graphical errors on certain games, but the only problem I've seen was with Sonic 2, where the character sprites are messed up. Another problem on the technical side is that there are a few old games that can't handle the six button controller, and behave in weird ways. I have a copy of Forgotten Worlds, and with the six button controller the game starts with the game over screen, and that's all you get. The original six button Sega controllers have a mode switch which disables the extra buttons, but the AtGames controllers don't have this. This means that some older games will be unplayable. Don't fret too much, as you can hook up a classic Sega pad to the AtGames console, and hopefully get around this.

Even with the technical issues, the price makes it hard to beat. With 20 games built in, it works out to about $2 a game, which is cheaper than you'll find Sega games pretty much anywhere...

    Sega Megadrive Twin Pad
After receiving this product this week I decided to write a review for future purchasers. First things first looking at the packaging for the machine its clear that this isn't a knock off "Megaclone" the Sega name has a capital letter and the copyright is correct, AtGames is apparently closly linked with Sega as it is. The manual is in English and Japanese so no problems there, the controllers (2) included are both of a reasonable standard, the buttons in some respect feel a little better than the Sega originals. The hardware itself could have done with a lot more thought as it almost feels like it's too small, but this can be overlooked for the mere reason that this console is just that a console, so it allows for the original cartridges to be used either Sega Genesis or Megadrive at the flick of a switch. The few cartridges I used from my collection were mostly fine, some games however suffer with graphical glitches, the main problem with all games I tried was with sound, being very attached to music in games this came as a disapointment, other than that this is excellent for those not wanting to wear out their Sega original hardware.

However, I tried 3 japanese games on this "Megadrive" and none of them played flawlessly :
    - Mickey and Donald World of Illusion : playable but the main character graphics are a mere stock of pixels so we can't enjoy the nice art from Disney.
    - Super Streer Fighter II : doesn't work at all
    - Langrisser II : works good but the characters faces "flash" during battle sequences.

To conclude, I would advise this product to those who simply want to play the 20 games provided with the system but definitely not to those who have numerous megadrive or genesis games and are looking for a safe system to play them...
