A surprise hit from Hong Kong.
Atmospheric, chilling and emotional.
The Eye does what other "I see dead people" movies don't, and that's create a story with genuine emotional attachment.

Mun lost her sense of sight when she was two.
Eighteen years later, she under goes a risky new corneal transplant operation, which will hopefully restore her sight.
The operation was a success and now Mun's sight is slowly returning, however it seems as though she can see thing others can't.
One night in hospital as her sight returns, she sees something which resembles a person take the woman who sleeps opposite her away.
Not knowing what it was and because her sight is still blurry she shrugs it off.
The next morning the woman is dead and when Mun asks the nurse about the woman's visitor last night, the nurse tells her that it isn't possible, as visitors are not allowed in at night.
As Mun's sight becomes clearer and clearer she realizes she can see people that others can't.
To get to the bottom of this problem she goes to a small town in Thailand to track down the corneal downer.
It seems as though Hong Kong is getting better at serious ghost stories.
Usually the majority of ghost stories are always horror/comedy's with slapstick humour and no scare tactics what-so-ever (which isn't bad of coarse, they're hilarious) and the serious horror movies just don't quite work.
Now, however, with the success of Japan's THE RING, Hong Kong goes back to basics and brings us the classic tale of seeing the dead, and it works really well!
The Pang brothers have brought us a truly enjoyable horror movie that runs at a leisurely pace (some might say slow) about the struggles of a woman who has been blind for 18 years and now after regaining her sight, must cope with the unwanted ability of seeing the dead.
What's that you say? Another SIXTH SENSE rip-off? sure sounds that way doesn't it?
Well no, ultimately THE EYE brings as a more deeper, stylish and emotional story which never borders on melodrama.
The story behind THE EYE is much more "human" and has a very real feel to it. You completely believe that Mun has been put in a situation she struggles to understand, and you really sympathise with her.
THE EYE has very few scares, and (while not as good as the scares in A TALE OF TWO SISTERS) it really has an impact on you. Most specifically is the atmospheric scares that work really well. You'll find yourself shaking in nervousness and safety hoping something bad doesn't happen to Mun (Elevator scene!!).
The acting is one of this film's strongest points.
Angelica Lee (Mun) portrays the heroine/victim excellently and has really
proven her acting skill (keep an eye out for her in KOMA, no pun intended
>.<), the way she connects with her surroundings is just like a person who
is seeing the world for the first time.
Lawrence Chow (who plays the psychotherapist) is also very good and the
chemistry between the two main characters works well.
The romance between the two leads works well and never detracts from the
overall story.
THE EYE is like a tapestry of aspects all complimenting each other and all
working perfectly in balance.
The love story works well and never takes away from the horror experience
like so many Hollywood Block-Flops (as I like to call them, "blockbuster
flops", goes well at the box-office but isn't particularly good) have done
before.
The "I see dead people" aspect never borders on cheesy and while the theme
seems familiar it is delivered in a fresh new way.
The scares never try too hard and the director, thankfully, never sets up
false scares, also the scary parts are well subdued (but still scary) and
don't detract from the "human" feel of the movie.
