Inspired by Norse mythology, Valkyrie Profile: Toga o Seoumono stars the tragic hero Wilfred who seeks to avenge his fallen family against Lenneth, the Valkyrie.
With dark dungeons and perpetual winter as a backdrop, hunger, poverty and hatred as plot devices, the game and its OSTs portrays an atmosphere that reminds the listeners of tarnished grandeur and mystery.
Aside from Odin's forces, the more dubious gods such as Loki and his children make their appearances, their participation in the plot of the game both complicated things and completes the world of Valkyrie profile, giving it more depth and potential.
To go with the European theme, Sakuraba Motoi unleashes his talent as a composer who could combine all elements of an orchestra to paint a bleak, continental landscape.
Sakuraba does it again Sakuraba's work in video games has been praised for years with his contributions to series such as Tales of and Star Ocean. After the experiment in Valkyrie Profile 2's music, here he goes back to the original themes established in the first Valkyrie Profile. Many of the tracks are essentially remixes of the first VP's various stage bgms and musical themes, but this is not a bad thing. Those tracks were a good blend of synth and rock when they first came out, and they stand the test of time here. The OST also includes the various new themes in the game, of course.
I consider this a great collection for any video game music enthusiast and a must have for a VP fan.
