One of the best!
This is truly one of the finest arranged CD’s from the entire Final Fantasy series. When the game was first released back in 1999, the only 2 orchestral pieces that were recorded at the time was the intro opening and the end credits - both which are present on this disk. In addition to those we get some of the other memorable tunes for the game and I can honestly say “Blue Fields” and “Fisherman’s Horizon” never sounded as good as here! Also included is one of the best battle themes from the series : “Don’t Be Afraid”, played in full orchestra at the exact same pacing as in the game. (I always found Arnie Roth’s version far too rushed).
One of best arrangements on the CD is the track called “The Oath”. It’s both regal and sad and gradually works its way to a powerful epic crescendo, it’s in tracks like these that the awesome compositions of Uematsu truly shine in all splendor.
It would be fair to mention that not all tracks are successfully adapted. The “Fithos Lusec” track, which bears the name of the CD, is a mixed experience as it starts off great but is completely ruined at the end by a singer who’s evidently in some sort of pain. The vocal is completely out of place and flat out annoying and I can only guess why the composers decided to put this on there.
Another note of critique would the song “Eyes On Me” which is featured 2 times on the CD; the pop single version and the orchestral one. While not being a bad song, having to hear it twice is abundant , especially as the theme comes back in the track ‘Love Grows”.
So in all, they cheapened out on some parts of the CD, but nothing you can’t fix with a skip button.
Some tracks truly hit home while others could be passed upon, either way, it still remains one of the finest orchestral disks out there for classical or game music lovers alike.

A fantastic soundtrack, from a fantastic game! This is definitely a great buy. Even if you've never played Final Fantasy VIII, this soundtrack is a masterpiece in it's own right. Buy this item before it's too late!

Finally, the songs as they were meant to be!
This is the way Final Fantasy music needs to be. The orchestrated songs are, to put it mildly, amazing. Not all of the songs are orchestrated, but the ones that have been orchestrated completely blow the originals out of the water. You could always hear the "orchestra" in the midi versions...finally the real songs have been released! Definitely a great buy for any Final Fantasy fan!

Buy it.
you could always hear the orchstra in uematsu's work, even back in the days of chip-tunes. so it is a small and locigal step from the synthie-approach of the ingame version to this all out orchstral performance that will blow your socks off no matter how many dozens of hours you spent playing already lsitening to this music.
