故事發生於十六世紀，當時是朝鮮時代，出身自低下階層的彩玉(河智源)自少精於武藝劍術，終於在機緣巧合下投效朝廷，並在左捕盜廳（簡稱左捕廳，朝鮮王朝時代逮捕罪犯的官廳名稱）負責專門調查案件、收集情報搜查嫌疑犯的女捕快，稱為「茶母」。 可是人性險惡，在種種政治角力與鬥爭之間，「茶母」要揭露案件真相絕非易事。彩玉四出明查暗訪，面對的除了武林高手外，更要在重重的權力鬥爭中化危為機，突圍而出。另外，她跟自少就一直待奉的少爺皇甫允，以及亂黨首領張城伯，更展開一段恩義兩難的三角感情。
