The wait was worth it!

I'd been waiting for this game since before the official page only had that picture of Cosmos and Chaos in it, and I can say I was not disappointed.

Instead of simply saying how wonderful this game is, I'll write a more detailed review I hope will help convince people to give this game a try.

The game ...

¸Ô²Ó´yz
To commemorate the 20th anniversary of Final Fantasy's debut, Square Enix round up the heroes and anti-heroes from their star RPG series and have them participate in a battle royale. Belonging to the camp of the god of peace Cosmos and the god of struggles Chaos, the 20 characters are pit against each other in fighting tournaments.

The concept of winning a fight is simple, unleash a string of attacks and deplete the HP bar of your opponent. The higher your hit rate is, the more brave points you store and the more special attacks you can launch. What sure kill attacks you can employ depend on your characters.

Pit your favourites against generations of FF characters and find out who the strongest is amongst you.

    Decent
Dissidia is a good fighting game. Once you get used to the battle system, which the main story mode helps to teach you fairly effectively, it continues to get deeper and deeper as you play more. There's a lot of customization in the game, and that may appeal to some.
My only problem with the game would have to be the cutscenes. They're awful. Don't get me wrong, they look great, but the writing and acting is absolutely horrendous. Luckily, the developers noticed this and let you skip the cutscenes (even the text ones) by pressing start. This also works to pause the cutscene if you actually want to watch it.
Addictive gameplay + nostalgia factor - bad cutscenes = a grade of B-.
Recommended for fans of both Final Fantasy games and fighting games.
    Not recommended for anyone else.

This title makes me feel like I am playing through the Final Fantasy 7 Advent Children movie! Great epic battle, great cinematogrophy and you get to play all heros and villains from FF1 to FFX!

    Pretty good
Great little game, well worth the money. Many many items to collect, it will keep you entertained for AGES. I love the dual colossuem, and quick fighting modes.

Downsides: cant play over the internet, and story line/dubbing kinda lame. I dislike clouds voice, and the whole "trying to make the game epic sounding" voice even though the storyline is lame. Not sure if it was translated incorrectly, or because its japanese and I didnt get it.

You get more than your money's worth!!!
Every psp owners should buy this great game. It's not only for the fans of the final fantasy series, but for everyone who's tired of the same old 3d fighting game.

While the story won't be enough to captivate you, Dissidia's mix of role-playing and fighting will keep you hooked for some time. The fighting is awesome and exciting, you will never get tired of it even if you played for a thousand hours.

Dissidia: Final Fantasy is a joyful experience that piles on the pleasures, within both its gameplay and its feature set. You earn real-time rewards represented by a Chocobo's journey; you can save battle replays, edit them, and export them as video files; and Moogles send you bizarre messages with points included to spend on more unlockables. In other words, there's a lot of game in here, more than some people will know what to do with. It's disappointing that some of the arenas don't seem to have been created with the cinematic camera in mind and that the story seems more like mediocre fan fiction than it does a true Final Fantasy epic. But if you came just for the fun and the frenzy, Dissidia offers plenty of both, supported by a framework of tangible rewards that deepens the more you play.

Final fantasy Dissidia is what everybody was waiting for!
Multiple final fantasy characters all put into a single game, where you can duke it out between your friends or simply play the story mode which will delve into backstory of the game.

This game is a must buy for all Final Fantasy (and non-final fantasy) fans alike

Best Final Fantasy game in years
This game has so much content it could last for hundreds of hours. The cast of 22 characters are all unique and require vastly different play styles. It will take you a while to master one character and then it's right on to the next one for a new experience.

Most fighters single player modes get boring once you've unlocked and tried out all the characters. But Dissidia's ingenious in slowly unlocking more moves as you level up the character adds incentive and eases players into learning a new character.

Only shortcoming I can think of is that to its core, this is a stat based rpg first and an action game second. Yes, skill is involved to snatch a win but in versus mode even when you set your levels to equal, just the stat boosts from better equipment can break the game with one person dealing damage in the single digits while the other in the triples.

This game can link up to the American version but not the European versions.

A must-have in your Final Fantasy Collection..
It's one of the best games you'll play on the PSP for now. It has playable characters from FFI-FFXII who have unique fighting styles towards each other.

It offers a decent story to play, an arcade mode to jusy jump right in and fight, a duel coliseum that can earn you rewards each fight, an ad-hoc mode to play with friends, character skills customization to your liking, and some accomplishments to fulfill with rewards waiting. I probably missed a few more things, but with all these things offered to you it guarantees 100+ hours of gameplay time.

What are you waiting for? Your collection is incomplete without this masterpiece!

It really is a love letter from Squre-Enix to their fans. From every little thing such as the multiple icons you can pick from to the costumes, unlockable etc.

They even went the extra mile and not only let you save your replays but also edit and convert them to an avi.

This is one game that has not left my PSP for a very long time and won't be any time soon.

Fun game, especially if you are FF fans
This game was a surprise in a lot of ways as I wasn't expecting a spin-off game from FF to be this good.

Game is essentially a arena battle game where you use the specialties of the characters to win the battle of good and evil.

General mechanics are simple to master, and great collectibles and upgrades will surely get people hooked.

For FF fans, there's a lot of material to be even more excited about, but for the ones who didn't follow FF or just joined the fun with FF7 will probably miss out on some franchise references and nostalgia fun you can have.

This game is one of the "fun" games Square-Enix managed to make based on FF. So if you ever wanted to have a mix & match battles with characters from different eras of FF, you'll be in heaven.

    Final Fantasy epic masterpiece!
With all FF1 to FF10 main Heroes and Villains and two special characters from FFXI and FFXII, I can only said that this game is like Final Fantasy (12 in 1). Beside characters, this game also got all the nice musics and all the final battle arena from FF1 to FF10. For fans this game is a must buy, but for those who still don't know anything about Final Fantasy, this game is the perfect one to start. There are lots of cool stuffs such as the replay editor which you can edit your own gameplay, an in-game calendar that have special days which you will get extra bonuses, the game action-based gameplay which you can change to the old school RPG command-style gameplay and tons of unlockables which make this game lots of replay value. With a lots of contents packed in this little UMD, I can only said that this game is really an epic masterpiece!

A bit tedious at first but...
The game when you play at first is a bit tedious because enemies die super fast and you have virtually no attacks.

But later, when you reach the level 100 with a few characters, the game really picks up and it gets really fun and challenging. You have to equip correct sets of accessories to buff and multiply stats.

    a really overrated game
First let me say: this game is good, and you will want to play it if you have some favorite FF characters. The music is amazing, graphic is very good for PSP but not as good as a PS2 game. The gameplay sucks. You will like it at first but since the only thing you do in the game is battle, and there is practically no story to keep you going you will find yourself just pressing the same button combination for hours. Dissidia is by no means a bad game, but it is repetitive and there is no replay value whatsoever. So to sum it all up: great music, good graphics, bad and repetitive gameplay, no plot. I recommend you rent and try it before buying.

The graphics are amazing for a PSP game and the soundtrack is stellar.

    The wait was worth it!
I'd been waiting for this game since before the official page only had that picture of Cosmos and Chaos in it, and I can say I was not disappointed.

Instead of simply saying how wonderful this game is, I'll write a more detailed review I hope will help convince people to give this game a try.

The game first asks you your name, your "plan" (whatever this is for, there are three options), and your special day (there are rewards and bonuses on special days).

There are three battle modes: story, quick play, and multiplayer.

In battle, normal attacks raise "brave", a number that means the amount of damage a "real" attack will cause. The HP depleting attacks cause as much damage to the enemy as the brave number indicates. It's good to raise brave by attacking a lot, but then you still have to connect with HP depleting attacks, too.

When a hit connects, little EX spheres will appear. Those raise the EX gauge (there are special in-battle items that raise the EX gauge by a large amount). You know EX mode can be activated when the gauge is full.

During EX mode, characters can execute their special attack. Butz uses a D-pad sequence to raise the damage. Tidus uses the same bar he used on Final Fantasy X when performing his overdrive. Onion Knight uses a command window to select the attack or spell he wants (which determines the class he'll switch to).

After battle, you gain gil, AP (ability points) and PP (which I guess are purchase points, or whatever). PP are gained even if the battle is lost. Experience is gained with each action during battle.

With enough experience, characters can level up, increasing their base stats. Base stats can be modified by equipment (weapons, helmets, armor).

Accesories give special traits (still trying to read the Kanji as to what those could be).

Summons are found as stones in the battle map, or gained as reward after clearing a stage. They have to be equipped by the character to work.

During level-ups, characters can learn abilities, too. Land, air, action, support and extra abilities are available. Land and air are divided by brave raising and HP depleting abilities.

PP are used to buy game options, like new characters, another form looks for existing characters, icons for the calendar, voices to be listened to in the museum, etcetera.

In quick play you select both your character and the computer character. You can customize each character with abilities, items, summons, form (normal or another form), etcetera. There are three "sets" for each character, so you can store different customizations.

You can choose the level of the CPU character. By default, it is the same level as your character, but you can select a level 1 opponent if you want.

Unlocked enemies can be selected in quick play.

In story mode, you start with the Prologue (tutorial), after which you will have the Destiny Odisseys I through X. There is also an Another Story mode after the Destiny Odissey, but I haven't started one yet.

Each story stage has a grid (stage map). You travel through the map using DP (destiny points). Each point means one movement (no matter how long the trajectory). In the grid there are treasure chests, potions, ethers, summon stones, enemy battles and blocks.

There is also a mark you have to reach to clear the level. You just have to reach this mark and the level will be cleared (after you fought your way through the grid).

If there are more than one map items around your character, they will all be chain-activated after the first one. This is useful to free grid spaces without spending many DP.

After finishing the prologue, or after finishing a Destiny Odissey, the SP (story points) will be added and rewards will be given.

Best game of the Year for the PSP I would say ^^
A must have for any FF fan. the only thing is that it's hard to understand it if you can't Japanese, because the menu is complicated you don't know which one is "story mode", "Battle mode" etc. but a little bit experimenting will do it. The graphics are amazing.

Dissidia: Final Fantasy, totally worth it
For those who are questioning whether this game is worth it or not, it is. Even if you don't understand japanese its really easy to pick up your favorite character and start fighting. The learning curve is rather easy at times, but sometimes you're stuck fighting an enemy that takes some strategy to fight. The story mode is easy to get through once you know what you're doing and the graphics are amazing. Definatly deserves 5 stars in my book
