EPICNESS
... is all i can describe this with. it is the greatest FIGHTER for the ds, keep in mind i said fighter. The characters and arenas are from the jump graphic novels, both japanese and american series and are each unique in most ways. The controls and menus are easy to get used to as a english or other language speaker besides ...

description
Jump Ultimate Stars is the sequel to one of the best selling games of 2005, Jump Super Stars. It is the second collaboration between Nintendo of Japan and Jump magazine, this time incorporating 300 characters from 40 Shonen Jump properties.
The "Koma" battle system will still be used in this sequel with the original 4-by-5 grid and touch screen support. However a number of improvements have been made, including calling support characters into battle via L/R button, without using the touchpad. Characters can now cling on to ledges when falling adjacent to them and some of the stages include areas that can be reached by destroying walls, even the floor and ceiling.
As another major improvement, Jump Ultimate Stars now supports Wi-Fi battles, which allows gamers all around the world to combat against each other.

Good game, but not for everyone.
If you're an English speaker and don't know any Japanese, then the biggest problem you're going to have with this game will be obvious when you press Start. Without a Walk-through or knowing any Japanese, this will be the hardest part of the game. Luckily, this game is well documented and you can find a walk-through of the game very easily.
From a Gameplay perspective, it's just like Super Smash Bros, with the addition of a Health Meter. If you like any SSB game, you will probably like this game.
The game also offers upgradable characters. When you complete a set of objectives in Single Player, you get a type of currency you can spend on upgrading different Komas, this games equivalent of characters. And the best part of that, if you upgrade a character, you don't lose the previous version. So you can have several different Komas of the same character.
Multilayer is also a big part of this game. But if you live far away from Japan, you're connection might suffer for a bit, but will eventually work itself out.
If I had to rate this game, I'd give it an 8 out of 10. Why only 8? Because it doesn't have an option to have the menus and everything in English, and since the game is entirely in Japanese, it can be frustrating to figure everything out.
But I do recommend this game if you're looking for a Handheld SSB-like game.

Great fighting game
It's quite fun, and it's good to see some of the more popular shonen heroes, old and new. Just know that you'll need to understand japanese or to read a FAQ to play through the missions of the story mode.
