I pretty much breezed through story mode,so I gave it 4 stars instead of 5.There are 16 playable characters.
Naruto,Sakura,Sasuke(chunin exam outfit),Kakashi,Lee, Neji, Gaara, Temari, Gai, Tsunade, Jiriaya, Orochimaru, Itachi,Kyuubi Naruto, and CS2 Sasuke are the playable characters.

    this game is good however..
their missing some features that would make the gamem even awsomer. Maybe they could make the graphics a little better. And maybe they would need more characters and the most important thing of all wi-fi mode. It's a really good game you should bye it. Just needs all the characters from gekito ninja taisen 4 and the wi-fi mode. Also more stages to choose from And a harder single player would make it a extremely better must bye game. That is what i expect from shinobi retsuden 2 (if they make one cause right now all it is is a rumor)

Good game a bit rushed though
I got this game for christmas and completed story mode within 45mins. The combos aren't as flexible as Gekitou Ninja Taisen (you can't combo into specials) and the sound quality is kinda bad BUT..The game has a fair amount of characters, the side shifting system is better than GNT (IMO) and the fact that you can teleport behind opponets for little chakra at any point (not kawarimi teleports) makes for some good battles. Kawarimi is also added in this game but uses more chakra than a regular teleport. If more time was spent on this game I'm sure it would have been so much better.

Overall I give it 3 stars but this is partially because I'm a fan of Naruto. Non-fans won't really enjoy this game and would be better with Bleach DS or Jump Ultimate Stars.

    Very enjoyable game.
Recommended for naruto fans, similar controls to gnt on gamecube. Also a great pick up and play game.Would've gave it 5 stars but i found the difficulty of unlocking itachi was over the top.

    Not terrible, but not great...
Generally I write reviews here about a week or so after I get the game, but this one was so underwhelming, I forgot about it until now. And I had this on preorder :P

Just as jonbuu2002 said earlier, it's good but pretty much a dumbed down version of the Cube games. I was expecting a lot more from this and wish I'd waited for reviews to go online before ordering.

I'm not saying it's all bad, though. It can still be fun, especially in multiplayer, but the single player mode is so easy, you'll rarely lose a single battle (if ever). Not only that, but each fighter only gets one special move and many of their other moves from the GNT series are missing as well.

On top of everything else, the graphics are pretty lousy. I know, I know, it's the DS. Which is why they shouldn't have gone with a 3D fighter. I think that they could have made a 2D fighter with 3D rendered backgrounds and it would have played and looked a lot better. They even stepped away from the usual cell-shaded character style and went with more traditional polygon fighters which really make it look dated (of course, I guess you could say that's a step up for the DS).

With a few extra modes, characters, moves, and online play, this could have been a really awesome portable fighter.

Overall, if you're a Naruto fan and need something on your DS to get your fix, this may be for you. But don't expect anything even 1/4 as good as the GNT series. If you're looking for a solid fighter for the DS, consider Jump Ultimate Stars instead.

To Buy or Not to Buy?!
This game i found to be pretty good but not a classic title! it is basically a scaled down version of the clash of ninja (or "gekitou ninja taisen" in japan) series for the nintendo gamecube! when u first start u quickly get to grips with the controls. its not hard at all and becomes repetitive after a while! (i was playin the game on hard mode and thought it was on easy! lol) there are seven characters to begin with and has six unlockables! but apart from doing arcade mode over and over to unlock characters there isnt much else to do!

a good addition to this is the item system where you are given six items at the bottom screen to use to put up health, chakra etc.

the specials are good but impossible to dodge! which is anoying as hell in wifi but wifi battles are class! (especially is i have unlocked itachi and my mate hasn't)

if ur a naruto fan get this! and also if ur a 3D fighter fan then also think about gettin this as considering the limitations of the DS i can't see many 3D fighters on the DS doin better!

those reviews were before it came out
dont buy this game.... the makers made it in a hurry.... it is not a great fighting game because there are very few characters and everyone only has a one button combo and one super. it lacked developement. but the graphics were great. and the sound was just awful...

    Eugh.
The game looks great. possibly the best looking game on the DS, but it is insanely flawed. In total there is about 5 moves you can pull off. Every character has pretty much the same jump, kick, punch moveset, except for their projectile attack and special (which can be overused so much that it makes the game too easy).Every character has a 'teleport' move as well, which can also make the game too easy, or in some cases, too hard. There are a nice amount of characters to choose from, though, and about 6 or so have to be unlocked. Each stage is pretty much the same, with out any noticeable difference besides the background. If you are a Naruto fan, you may get a kick out of this. If you are just an average Joe, like myself, looking for a good fighter on the DS, you're going to want to look elsewhere.
