Item Description

Arkanoid DS is a remake of Taito's popular arcade game originally developed in 1986. Those who are not familar with this classic, you control the "Vaus", a space vessel that acts as the game's "paddle" which prevents a ball from falling from the playing field, attempting to bounce it against a number of bricks. The ball striking a brick causes the brick to disappearWhen all the bricks are gone, the player goes to the next level, where another pattern of bricks appear. There are a number of variations (bricks that have to be hit multiple times, flying enemy ships, etc.) and power-up capsules to enhance the Vaus (expand your Vaus, multiply the number of balls, equip a laser cannon, break directly to the next level, etc), but the gameplay remains the same.Arkanoid DS features three different single player modes: clear mode, quest mode, and VS computer. The clear mode is the classic stage-by-stage that features 140 levels total. Quest mode allows you to select stages that you've unlocked to complete special objectives and earn game points. The VS mode allows you to clear either all the blocks or blocks of a certain color before your opponent does the same, and this mode can also be played ad hoc against friends.

Dial feels kinda loose... I read up other impressions and people on forums said that wheel is supposed to have some resistance to it. The one i have -- you can touch it and it goes spinning and spinning.

It still works great though. I prefer to hold with two fingers, but when i gave it to my friend he started to move it with just one finger and it worked for him just fine.

Game itself, well it's Arkanoid, pretty much the same game we played on NES. Same music, same gameplay. There was one weird thing about first levels though -- they don't take entire screen width which is weird considering already low resolution of DS. Hopefully it gets wider so that you can really use that dial.

Dial really make a difference for a game like this, now you can move your ship pretty much instantly across entire field AND still be very precise.

Price could be a bit lower for what it is.

paddle controller
a great way to enhance gamplay for games like Space Invaders Extreme, SIE2(which has a rank/multiplayer mode for paddle use whereas the orig. didnt), & mario kart ds(using ds Action replay). wish they made 1 for xbox 360

Play Arkanoid the retro way
Using the paddle to play Arkanoid is an excellent idea. Now we need more games that are compatible with this fun to use controller.

The paddle controller is a must!
Arkanoid on the DS with the paddle controller is the only way to play this game. The paddle itself plug's into the GBA slot on your DS. It is white in colour and has very good tactile feedback for your fingers. It is designed to work with both the DS Phat and DS Lite so on the lite it sticks out a little more but this does not affect the ergonomics and you can play it for a good length of time.

Excellent fun with the paddle!
Arkanoid DS is a terrific update of the arcade classic. It features a ton of stages and unlockable stuff like backgrounds, sound effects, and ships. It will take quite a while to finish this game off. The multiplayer (local or Wi-Fi) is quite good too, as you race to clear your board first while sending attack items to the other player. Non-Japanese readers will have no problem navigating the game's menus, also a plus. My only complaint is some of the stage designs are more challenging than fun, but overall I highly recommend the game.

The paddle controller feels good and offers excellent control, though it sticks out a bit in the DS Lite.
