Incredible remake.

I was skeptical over Squenix making my precious Final Fantasy IV into 3d, much less on the DS after a fairly dissapointing FFIII.

I'm glad I got this, though. The original script is largely intact, though there are some minor changes. Event direction and voicing is top notch. Graphics are heavily improved since ...

    Beyond My Wildest Expectations...
I warn you in advance - Final fantasy IV has always been, and will ,most likely always BE, the be all and end all of role playing games. With that said, this review may be a bit on the fannish side, but I assure you that my presentation of my copy of this exquisite remake has garnered much praise from even the most jaded of gamers in my own circle.

Disclaimer aside, Final Fantasy IV for the Nintendo DS is an absolute celebration in role playing - the cinematic presentation of the game's lavish scenery and sweeping landscapes are almost as though someone plugged a DS directly into my head and downloaded the contents into game form - its ALL here: from the brickwork of Baron's city streets to the crater-pocked surface of the moon, it has all been redone with the utmost attention to detail: this IS the game that we FFIV fans always knew the game could be!

And the presentation of the characters! With amazing voice overs, each one comes to life in ways you never though possible, breathing personality and depth into Seventeen year old characters that move, act, and sound just how one might have imagined in their mind's eye so many years ago. Marry this with astounding animation, grand spell effects and a truly epic series of story boarded sequences, and you have a worthy addition to the series indeed.

As you have no doubt already gathered, I give this game the hightest possible recommendation!

    Stupendous
Having played FF3 on the DS, I was eager to see what Squenix would do for 4. I am happy to say that they did not disappoint. The graphics are sublime, the voice acting is excellent, and the gameplay is just as good as it always was. The menus could stand to be a bit snappier, but that's nothing that wasn't a concern in the SNES version of the game.

This game also seems to have addressed most of the limitations that plagued FF3, most notably the maximum of three enemies at a time in battle. FF4 can handle at least six without a hitch. Battles feature a much-welcome ATB display and the ability to switch to other ready characters, and dungeons have a new minimap that is revealed as you explore. Both of these features use the second screen, a programming practice suspiciously absent from FF3.

However, to those who liked the stylus control feature of FF3, you may be disappointed. Use of the stylus to walk around feels awkward, most likely because pen distance is not a factor (Cecil always runs) and because despite the touch screen you are constrained to eight degrees of motion. In addition, every important menu appears on the top screen, making them unnavigable with the touch pen. But the game plays wonderfully without the stylus, so it's not a terrible loss.

All in all, this was a great purchase and I'm incredibly happy with it. I look forward to many happy hours with my DS.

    Very Nice
Its a great remake and a I am looking forward to finally finishing this game. Before when I played it on snes i never finished the game. So its like an whole new gaming experience to me. I was kinda dispapointed in the graphics though. Tales of Innocence has much cleaner graphics. But none the less its a great game. Makes me think of the old days on the Snes. I really hope they get around to making a remake ofFinal Fantasy VI like this.
