Arrange the students in Super Robot Gakuen into groups and pit them against each other in a tag battle. Unlike the Super Robot Taisen franchise, which is a simulation RPG, this is a fighter, the school where all aspiring pilots learn to battle each other through their Super Robots. Don't worry if you are a bad student or have a bad attitude, as long as you can solve all your problems through your robot, everything is fine.
Play around with the famous mecha from Bandai. Those who felt nostalgic, choose the mecha from the 80s series such as Dangaio and those who prefer the more current hits, you have Full Metal Panic and Gundam Seed.
Original characters are going to lead the plot. Fights, humor, intrigue and romance are all done in Super Robot style, enroll into this school today!

A decent concept ruined by marred execution. For those expecting a 'normal' Super Robot Wars game - you're out of luck. Gakuen plays as a collecting battler, almost like Pokemon, where you 'collect' mechs and battle them against each other in a turn-based system. Whilst the concept is good, and could easily have worked, a poor and sluggish gameplay engine combined with slightly dull, overbloated, gameplay mechanics and a dull, unlicensed soundtrack cause the game to never quite get it's hooks into you.
The online multiplayer helps the game if you play with friends and can engage in some mid-fight banter, but a dull tacked-on single-player campaign and a roster bloated with statistically different versions of the same machine cause the game to be a lot less deep than one might expect.
All in all, not a must-have, but if you enjoy the genre and you can stomach the game's agonizingly sluggish gameplay, worth a try if there's an offer going.
