Great Game

This remake is amazing I love the new features of the game. This game is a must for any Pokemon fan!

¸Ô²Ó´yz
Soul Silver is the sequel to the Pokemon Fire Red/ Leaf green released in 2004 on Game Boy Advance. 3 years after the initial defeat of the Rocket Organization, a new hero is setting off on a new journey in the Jouto area. Receiving a pokemon from the researcher Dr. Utsugi, off you go on your adventures and meet all the pokemon and challenges.

The Rocket Organization who has been using pokemon as tools back in the Kanto area are back. What are they aiming for this time? Can you become the hero to save the day? Train your pokemon in the gyms, enter the pokemon league and duel with the gym leaders to earn badges. Aiming at the top place in the pokemon trainer world, off you go!

Train your pokemon as you walk. Take the pokemon walker with you wherever you go. The more steps you take, the more experience your pokemon become. Use the infrared device to put your strengthened pokemon into the game world in your DS.

More legendary pokemon are showing up. Tame the glittery Lugia in Soul Silver.

    A must have
With tons of additions and new features, yet the world of Pokémon Gold and Silver, this game is a must have for any Pokémon fan. The amazing graphics and dual screen use make this game a masterpiece in the NDS history.

    Great game, but not new
The "new" Pokemon is still a great game. The game series has more than 10 years and continues selling well. There's a great game, like all the Pokemon Games, there's a new item called Poke Walker. The Poke Walker incentives the games making exercises to evolue your Pokemon. This shows how Nintendo cares about the health of the users of your products. I recommend.

    Best of the Series!
Pokemon Silver and Gold brought new things to the franchise such as breeding and the internal clock. Soul Silver and Heart Gold continue this trend by being the first game in the series to allow your starter pokemon, whoever it may be of the 483 Pokemon dex, to follow you around. The Pokethon is another great addition to the game. The touch screen is much better used in this game than in the past few games as well. This game is highly recommended to any fan of Pokemon

    Great Game, Great Service
I was super excited to be able to purchase this game. When it arrived, in a stunning week and a half, I was so excited. The game is a great remake, and i highly recommend it to others who enjoyed previous Pokemon Games.

    Best out of the two!
I loved Silver when it first came out into america like 10 years ago. Now that I imported this lovely game, I loving it ALL over again, I bought HG, and I saved my money for the best last game, Soul Silver, Im still playing it, But I am at the E4, and I am kick ass in it. Well this game is amazing highly recommended!!

    Addicted all over again
Having spent countless hours playing the GBC originals, I was thrilled to hear about the remake. The game definitely lives up to expectations, bringing the game up to date and adding a few extra enhancements. Menus are easier to navigate, and having one of your Pokemon able to follow you around is a cute touch.

    Amazing game
I received my game 2 weeks from ordering (which is fast with the cheapest shipping option).

There are so many great features in this remake, not having played the original Gold and Silver games, this is new for me. I love how the Pokémon can follow your character. Features from Diamond/Pearl/Platinum have been incorporated into the game as well, blending generations well and incorporating the touch screen. The Pokéwalker is a nice feature, allowing you to still gain Pokémon and items while going about your day when you can't play your DS.

    Simply Amazing.
Silver easily was my favorite Pokemon game, even when the DPPt games arrived. Soul Silver is a perfect remake. They kept everything we loved- Bug catching contests, 16 total badges followed by an epic battle against the very difficult Red- and what they added made it perfect. Pokemon following you, the Safari Zone, and the WiFi event related additions are wonderful. I feel like it was the best decision I ever made, to import this game, and I highly recommend it to fans of the original, and to those who never got the chance to play.

Hi, I'm Typhlosion and I follow you everywhere you go ^.^
This game is just great. I played the original GSC games ten years ago and it really brings back memories ^.^
Nintendo implemented more 3D elements and made some graphics update (tall grass and really nice water being one of them). The Pokethlon an the Safari Zone are new too. But the best thing in my opinion is the first pokemon of your team following you. It will even be shiny, if you have one (although not the avatar in the menu, can't have it all ^.^).
Definitely a must-have for every fan of the series!

    Best Pokemon Game Since Stadium
Gotta catch 'em all. This game has practically every Pokemon available, especially with the PokeWalker.
At first I was sorta sad about missing out on the retro music, but they even included the GAMEBOY MUSIC in this. This game was pretty much made to shut the fans up, so don't expect any good Pokemon games for a while.

Everything you hated about D/P/Pt was fixed in HG/SS. It actually uses the touch screen! Using items and rearranging boxes has never been easier. The auto run and touch screen shortcuts make for everything more convenient. Everything exclusive to Platinum is in this game, including the Battle Frontier and exclusive formes.

    chrystian.ar (1) on 03, Nov. 2009 23:50 (HKT)

    A must have
I hated the original Gold and Silver version, but this game is in another level. If you like to play battles with your friends or play tournaments, Soul Silver bring must have features to help in your training. The removed areas in the original version are back and the plot is extended. The graphic is awesome and the music is epic. Some flaws, like some trainers teams, may kill some of the fun (a team of 6 Magikarps or 5 Geodudes), but it doesn't remove the greatness of this game.

    A nice surprise.
It's no mistake to think that one set of new Pokemon games is hardly different to the previous set. Despite that, I was amazed to find how addicted I've become to these particular games. The music is also the best in the series, and the PokeWalker accessory is very cool.

    Fantastic
This game is absolutely brilliant, this is pokemon at it's best, as a complete fan I am so glad to see this remake, the colours are crisp and vibrant, the game play is magnificent, and the involvement of the touch screen is much appreciated. This game has so much to offer and bring pokemon games to a new level of brilliantness. My only fault is the new box storage system, which I do not feel flows as well as in previous games however this is a minor set back.
The poke walker is a great peripheral, getting you out and walking around, it's a great way to play on the go and make the game have an extra depth with others have been lacking.

I remember when this game first came out I got it for Christmas when i was in like the 6th grade. It was honestly the most fun game I had ever played at the time! I was in love with this game. I am happy to say, that my love for Pokemon games was revived after playing this game. I am in love again. A great game and worth every penny, probably more. Pokemon fan or not, I strongly recommend anyone who likes gaming to play this game. You WILL NOT regret it!

an amazing game worth every penny
An amazing game I've played yet, I have been playing pokemon games since the first red version that came out, and I was astounded by the quality of graphics they've improved. The cute new addition to have your favorite partner (pokemon) follow you wherever you go. An old event from the previous Gold and Silver version reapearing like the Bug Catching contest, some new features like the Pokeathleon (which is an extra plus, and one of my favorite new features in the game). Eye-popping intro with enhanced music and graphics with the buildings, and some new features now having some 3D effect to it.

I would recomment this game to any fellow, hard-core pokemon fan, this game is a must and it will amaze you with the stuff you could do on it, that will keep you occupied for a long time.

Love from an Old School Pokemaniac
I love the fact that we have a new pedometer to go with this version of Gold & Silver. The ability to not only train your pokemon from the game, but to also capture additional pokemon as well as gifts to transfer back to the game is the most unique part of this version of the classic games and a definite treat for those of us who are still carrying our Pikachu2 from 10 years ago.
The inclusion of GTS from the D/P/Pt series a well as a few expansions on the ideas that were created for Platinum's WiFi Plaza.
While I wish I understood the Japanese language, this game will tide me over until the English language versions are released.

    Best import I've ever made
I pre-ordered SoulSilver without really thinking about it, just because I wanted to spend money, but I must say it's the best thing I've ever bought off SoulSilver. There isn't much I can say other than that if you're unsure about whether it's playable in a foreign language, just go with it. It's absolutely fine as long as you don't mind checking Bulbapedia or GameFAQs every few hours. You get to recognise the attack animations quickly and everything else is fairly obvious. Also, it's a great game in its own right, of course.

    sparky_0256 (1) on 21, Oct. 2009 21:01 (HKT)

Very good addition to the series.
While these games are remakes gamefreak did outdo themselves on many aspects. The graphics are top notch where you have GS brought up to DP graphics. There's even a few odd 3Dcutscenes here and there. New aspects added like pokethlon where you compete in multiple mini games to earn medals and crowns plus a few new routes.

Being connectable with DPPt is great and having to alot of Pokemon also makes it a more enjoyable experience. It's not perfect since I have a few problems here and there with it but it's nothing too big to distract from the experience. For someone who like to explore everything this has alot to do and for the fan who likes either kanto and Johto this is definately a must have. A great addition to the series.

    Brilliant game
Gorgeous music, visually appealing maps, cute extras and lots of adventures - this game is more than just a reboot of the old version! It's expanded and has all sorts of great knicknacks for those who're familiar with Gold, Silver & Krystal, not to mention a great game for people who have never played Pokemon before. The Pokewalker is easy to use, and encourages walking more - not to mention being a handy way to level up new Pokemon! This game is extremely well put-together, and offers almost every single one of the 493 Pokemon currently in existence, perfect for a collector who wants to catch 'em all, or just people who would like to build up widely varied teams. The Wi-Fi functionality is just as good as in Pokemon Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum, and the new box layout, Pokemon following the player, and setup with the touch screen menu make this a worthy tribute to the golden days of Pokemon. Easy to play, a blast, and I highly encourage anybody still on the fence to make this purchase - it'll be worth it.

I thought SoulSilver would be an alright game, but I love it. There's a lot of legendaries you can catch! You can rebattle all the 16 gym leaders, fun.
It has a battle frontier like platinum, overall the game is really fun.

    The Greatest Pokémon Game Ever.
After spending a few hours trading my pichu egg over, hatching it on SS, trading it back to my diamond to evolve it then trading it back, I've finally gotten into the game.
It's more beautiful than I could have imagined.
It's been nearly 10 years since I first visited the region of Johto, as a 6 year old.
I find myself immersed, and I can't seem to take my hands off my DSi.
This game has stunning graphics, amazing audio tracks, awesome gameplay and more.
This game remains true to the original gold and silver, at least, in my opinion, and veterans to the series may also find themselves surprised by a few things (It's a good surprise, don't worry).
This game has so much nostalgia, but at the same time it feels fresh, and new.
With the whole of Johto, and Kanto to explore, there's plenty to keep you occupied.

    A nice revisit
This game contains the feature I've been waiting for the last ten years: pokémon that follow the player around on the map! That alone makes the games the best ones in the series.

The improvements from Gen II make this game a worthwhile purchase even if you did play Gold, Silver or Crystal. The music and the sprites have been improved and the Wi-Fi makes things even more interesting than before - now you can really trade and battle with friends from other continents. This feature brings a new level of social activity to the old games, and the compability with DPP is another nice feature.

Fantastic for nostalgia, great for Japanese learning, AWESOME for gameplay!
Suffice to say, I was rather excited when my copy of Soul Silver arrived - two weeks after the shipping date, granted, but I had already made the mistake of choosing "Economy" shipping. I unwrapped the box excitedly, and was very pleased to see something I hadn't expected - a little model of Lugia! About 4x5x5 cm, with the wings extending further, width ~8cm and height ~7cm. Very nice.

Also included was the Pokewalker, of course, with a manual all in Japanese that I couldn't read with my limited knowledge of Japanese.

Onto the game! It's a great port of Silver, with all the extras of Crystal (as far as I can tell), as well as more awesome features - but, as I did when I first heard about the game, I'll assume they'd be spoilers to you, so I won't talk about them. There are many sites on the Internet with details about that - pick your favourite.

However, if you were a fan of the original G/S/C versions, I assume you know the word "PokeGear" - it's back, in all it's glory, after eight PokeGear-less years! I was very happy when I received it - I was worried Nintendo might skimp.

But, in the full course of the game - I've almost finished - I can confirm that Nintendo have not skipped out on any detail of the original. It's all here still, though some areas have been modernised. It's not bad, just some more detail here and there.

The only language available, of course, is Japanese, but it's all in kana (no kanji anywhere in the game) so it works great for discovering new words in Japanese, if you're as inexperienced in the as I am. I think over the course of the two weeks I've had it, my Japanese has improved a fair bit - I can understand most of what's going on now at least :P

But all in all, this is a fantastic game. Sounds through graphics through even gameplay, to an extent, have been revamped - and hopefully a whole new generation can enjoy the great game this is!

Absolutely brilliant in every possible way
HGSS are remakes of what many believe to be the finest entries in the Pokémon series, and it shows. Everything has been renovated and improved, both compared to the originals and to Diamond/Pearl/Platinum. The interface redesign in particular (everything can now be fully controlled with either the touch screen or the face buttons, as opposed to DPPt where this was only really an option in battles) really impressed me. It's also a bit more challenging than the original Gold/Silver/Crystal, which is good, since the originals were generally pretty easy (except for the fight against Red, as well as Whitney's Miltank. It does say something that while most of the Gym Leaders' movesets have been massively improved compared to the originals, that Miltank stays the same in HGSS).

If I had any complaint, it would be that there isn't as much post-Elite 4 content added as there was compared to how much FireRed/LeafGreen added to the world of RBY. But then again, Gold, Silver and Crystal had the best post-Elite 4 content anyway, so there wasn't really that much they could add, but the addition of Platinum's Battle Frontier is nice.

But regardless, whether you've never played a Pokémon game before and just want a RPG that'll occupy quite a bit of time (more if you get into the metagame), stopped playing them at RBY or GSC, or are a dedicated Pokémaniac, these games are perfect (though if you've never played a Pokémon game before, I'd probably wait for the English release, there are points where you may have no idea where to go without knowledge of the originals [and occasionally, with knowledge of the originals, the thing you have to do after getting all 8 Johto badges confused me for a bit, but a spot of searching for the solution fixed that]).

    Best updated port ever!
This game was the best in the series on Gameboy Color. Pokemon Soulsilver & Heartgold are perfect prots to the DS. They stay true to all the elements of the Gameboy versions including story (more in-depth), music (upgraded), maps (some new areas), characters, and more. These games both have something to do with Suicune's story from Soulsilver. Suicune is the legendary dog of Pokemon Crystal and jumps around on the map until he decides when you can fight.

The main map takes place on Johto 3 years after the events of Red/Blue/Green. After completing the Johto journey and defeating the Elite 4, you have access to Kanto to battle 8 more gym leaders.

My overall review of this game is simply this, I turned the game on and did not stop until I beat the Elite 4. I used only Feraligatr from Newbark Town to Victory Road in 1 sitting. Yeah, the game was that good. I have never done that with any game.

In Soulsilver, Lugia is your main target Pokemon to catch. Use a Master-Ball on it. Other than this and different wild Pokemon, there is no difference between the 2 games.

    Nostalgic revisit to Johto
It's been a long time since I played Gold & Silver versions for the GBC, and these remakes for DS do them great justice. I don't know Japanese, but playing the game is rather easy without knowing it (though, a handle does help). Remixed music is great, and the retelling of the original story is simply amazing.

If you have or haven't had the privilege of visiting the Johto Region back in Generagtion II, you should pick up a copy of these remakes.

What a flash from the past with MAJOR improvements and a fantastic story and plot.

The graphics have been imporved drastically and this is the most beautiful game graphics wise on the Nintendo DS to date.

The Pokewalker you get free!, is awesome and just walking helps you with your fitness and your pokemon levels and chances of getting rarer pokemon such as on the Wi-fi only course you can get wild Pikachu which know Surf, Fly, Volt Tackle.

There's over 9 legendary pokemon in this game, which is the most available in any pokemon game.

This is by FAR, the best game on the nintendo DS at the moment and it is no wonder that in Japan alone, this game along with Soul Silver sold 2 MILLION Units in a weekend!

Get this game and you GOTTA Catch em All!!!!

The best remake you'll ever play
Firstly, know that I'm writing from the perspective of a guy who played the original Silver and Crystal versions when they came out. I know there are a lot of people in the same situation.

Well, the remakes do not disappoint at all. This is the most upscale and detailed Pokemon game yet by far, and there are so many things to do that you will be able to play for over forty joyous hours in Johto alone before moving into Kanto.

Game Freak has managed to recreate the original games nearly perfectly (Flash is now a TM, Headbutt is a Tutor move, you can't decorate your room any more, and so on...but these are mostly trifling) with obvious care for those of us who played the games a decade ago.

The Pokemon in the wild are the same as in the original games, but you are able to trade with DPP from the beginning of the game. Game Freak has included a load of legendary Pokemon sidequests from all of the generations as well as a few events. Kanto has been mostly fleshed out (Mount Moon is still small, and Cinnabar is still destroyed), and every city is given a unique flavor. The ground is different for each city, the building have different styles, and Game Freak has definitely accentuated the Japanese theme in certain parts. There is a lot more flavor in each city now, and I'm glad.

The music is excellent for the most part. Game Freak has made sure to include every song in the games, even the Print-screen-error song I used to think I was the only one who knew existed. There are a couple of songs I can think of that could have been done better, but it is more than made up for. There are also quite a few new songs in the game--the new Routes 47 and 48 have a grand Wind Waker-esque tune, and the Safari Front and Safari Zone both have new music, as well as the themes for the GTS and Battle Frontier from Platinum, both of which return exactly the same (like it or not) in HeartGold and SoulSilver.

There are features that some people are disappointed about, such as the lack of a Vs. Seeker (used to rematch trainers whenever you want) or a Pokeradar (used to easily get shiny Pokemon), but I would argue that these aren't necessary in these games. You can rematch trainers with the phone feature, though not as reliably, and if Pokeradars were in, then Game Freak would have to make one large patch of grass in every route, which I rather wouldn't like considering that the encounter rate is so high in these games.

There is no other Pokemon game other than Silver/Crystal themselves I have enjoyed as much as I have SoulSilver. Don't order the game expecting it to be the same as the original games, because it's not. Drop your expectations and let yourself fall into what the remake is like. This is an absolute must-have for anybody with a DS, and a massive reason for others to buy a DS.

    Refined
Some technical improvements make it the best pokemon game so far, however it is still very similar to earlier games. After beating the main quest your choice of things to do is quite limited. The same battle frontier events that were originally in pokemon platinum version make a return. SoulSilver players can catch Groudon and Latios whereas HeartGold players have access to their counterparts Kyogre and Latias.

    Gamefreak does it again...
I have been playing these games for well over 10 years now and I have to say, I have not been impressed with a Pokemon game since the original Gold/Silver games that came out back in 2000. Ever since the D/P games, the 3 dimensional graphics have made a stunning impact, however, I do not like to praise a game for nice graphics because they don't matter. What does matter is the gameplay. I personally think it is just another one of gamefreak's cash-ins just to make a quick buck because you could only play so many pokemon games to the point you get tired of the same old repetitive gameplay. Instead of finding a way to make these games more fun and enjoyable, they decide to remake yet another section of the franchise that we don't need remade. By looking at HG/SS, it is very hard to say these games could even be considered remakes because of the dramatic changes that these games have undergone. The music is average. I can't express enough on how Lance's battle theme and Silver's battle theme don't have the right instrumentals. IMO they pretty much half-assed some of the tracks, but that is just me.

But for kids that never got to play the originals this will be great for them I’m sure. I’m going back to the Gameboy games for now as I really wanted to replay these games on the ds and waited for these versions. But they just changed way too much for my taste. They don’t at all feel/sound/look like the original games to me. The Team making this remake didn’t give it the right attention and love that it deserves for the old school fans. I’m done ranting but understand, if you love GS versions you will understand how unfaithful this is to the original when you boot the game up for the first time, it feels remarkably different.

But so righteously deserved. The music has to be the game's biggest win, with so much effort put into it. The region of Johto is also very nicely redone and should be a great buy for those who would like a new game and haven't played Gold/Silver, and a pretty awesome one for those who played the original games almost a decade ago.

    A great remake
Soul silver has arrived and I'm happy to say it's brilliant.
    Music: 9 out of 10
The music in these games is fantastic and indeed at a new level, the tracks feel new and familiar at the same time.
    Graphics: 9 out of ten.
A major improvement over D/P/Pt graphics, those worried about the modern look wreaking these games can stop worrying. Like the music they feel new yet familiar.
    Gameplay: 9 out of 10.
The gameplay is standard pokemon however being remakes these games contain all the improvements that have occurred since the originals.
    Overall: 9 out of 10.
For pokemon fans these games are must buys, and for everyone else I'd also suggest giving these games a look.

A lazy rehash, not a game produced with heart and soul
Welcome to Pokemon Crystal, version 1.01. That's essentially what Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver are: lazy, unimaginative rehashes hastily cranked out by GAMEFREAK for an easy cash-in.

There is virtually ZERO new content in this game that is not present in one form or another in Pokemon Crystal or Pokemon Platinum. There are NO new Pokemon species, battle moves, abilities or natures. EVERY Pokemon in HG/SS can be readily obtained from already-released GBA and DS Pokemon games. Even the Battle Frontier is a direct copy and paste from Pokemon Platinum with zero changes.

Unlike FireRed and LeafGreen, which added the Sevii Islands, the aren't even a dozen new maps in HG/SS. Instead, "new" additions are inserted here and there: Battle Frontier to Olivine City, Safari Zone to Cianwood, Pal Park (same one as D/P/Pt--surprised?) to Fuchsia City.

Almost none of the problems from the original Gold/Silver have been fixed in this incremental upgrade. The Rocket Execs, Elite Four members and gym leaders remain far too underleveled, including their rematches by the time you have access to them. The PokeGear is still annoying, and about once every five minutes, you'll get telephone calls from some bug catcher telling you about how awesome it is to watch his Pokemon become stronger. Kanto is still the same old, watered-down version, with landmarks such as Silph Co., Pokemon Tower and Cinnabar Island being partially closed off or gutted--and this time, lack of cartridge space is no longer an excuse.

Only two groups will possibly find these ports of any value: (1) folks who have never played Gold/Silver/Crystal before and (2) those who have insatiable amounts of rose-tinted nostalgia for the originals. For veterans of the Pokemon games, HG/SS offers nothing new or remotely interesting/revolutionary to the franchise, even for so-called "enhanced remakes." Just grab an old, cheap copy of Pokemon Crystal from eBay if you're so inclined, and save yourself some cash.

Silver was always the best game and now it can be played in the Platinum format, which edged out Diamond/Pearls misplacements. Silver always got me playing, must have gone over 500 hours of gameplay before the internal clock died.. this wont have that problem! The new physical/special format and extra pokemon from hoenn/sinnoh make this the perfect game yet.
LeafGreen (or FireRed), Emerald were awesome fun to play. Diamond (maybe Pearl) and Platinum were great but SoulSilver is going to kick ass! maybe HeartGold too I suppose!
