The latest in SEGA's Bleach series allows you to battle head-to-head with CPU, local wireless or online opponents using Nintendo's Wi-Fi Connection! The whole cast is there for the taking in an all-out fight to become the ultimate champion.
If you're a fan of the incredibly popular Anime, the Nintendo DS and/or fighting games in general, you should consider adding this as an essential part to your DS collection!
Best Ds game around I thought this was going to be a mediocre easy fighting game with rubbish graphics, but i was impressed. It is one of the best games i have played the story mode is perfect, it has enough modes and other extras to unlock which will keep you busy for a long time. As a bonus theres wifi, this game does not disapoint.

Best Bleach Game Below is my review of Bleach DS: Souten Ni Kakeru Unmei from my fanzine, Extra Life:
Extra Life is clearly becoming something of a DS
fanboys magazine, what with all of these brilliant
DS games I seem to keep picking up. Here we
have a rare beast for the handheld wonder: an
astounding fighting game. Even more surprising
is that the fighting game in question here is
based on the popular manga/anime Bleach, which
up until now has seen something but turgid
nonsense released as videogame counterparts
(see Bleach GC review, and avoid the PSP games).
Bleach DS: Souten Ni Kakeru Unmei is the fighting
game that every Bleach fan wanted. Featuring
a huge cast of characters (some of which are
surprising additions), easy to pick up gameplay,
excellent fighting mechanics and, most
importantly of all, the ability to play as
Kurosaki Ichigo and unleash his Bankai.
Of course, not everyone reading this review is
likely to know just what Bleach is, or is about,
so for a brief rundown turn to the anime and
manga reviews ahead. Suffice it to say, Bleach DS
allows you to act out the major battles of the
series for yourself, using all of the relevant
attacks seen or read about in the anime and
manga, which should come as recommendation
enough for most.
As a fighter, the game closely resembles the
likes of Guilty Gear in terms of graphical style
and battle mechanics. The majority of characters
have a weapon (often a sword) and several
attacks associated with that weapon, all of which
will be familiar to fans of the series. Battles can
include up to four combatants, and take place in
levels that usually have a background and
foreground that can be fought in with a swift tap
of ‘L’. Each fighter has a repertoire of special
moves on top of the standard kicks, slashes and
punches, and these can be executed with button
combinations or, a quick stab of the relevant
icon on the touch screen. While the latter
option may seem like something of a cop out,
you can only perform certain attacks when your
reiatsu (spirit) is high enough, so attention
needs to be aid to the top screen too. Still, one
of the greatest draws this game has is the ability
to perform these exciting attacks, so Treasure’s
decision to make them easy to pull off greatly
increases the fun factor here.
There are literally hours of fighting to be had
with Bleach DS, with a story mode, arcade
battle, time attack and survival for each
character, as well as a shop with hundreds of
items to buy, and even a fully featured versus
battle for up to four players which is
playable online as well as off, which mostly
means that you’ll be fighting super skilled
Japanese Bleach players if you play the
multiplayer, because being an import game,
there probably aren’t many people you know
who own the game. That said, this is easily
the most impressive hand held fighting game
I have played for a long time, pipping even
Street Fighter Alpha 3 Upper on the GBA to
number one position. The graphics and audio on
offer are extremely close to the level of quality
set by the anime and manga, and the game is
even easy to get into despite the presence of
Japanese text. If that isn’t good enough
reason for you to import the game, I don’t
know what is!
8/10 (which although = 4 stars, I'm giving it 5 here. I;m a harsh reviewer)

Best DS fighter I have I just ordered this game last week. I got the game wednesday. I unlocked every charachter by saturday. Once I started playing I couldn't put it down. Guilty Gear fans or Marvel vs Capcom 2 fans, this is the game that you must pickup for your DS. The battle system is simple a la Smash Brothers but the potential for complex combos is there. The in game Challenge Mode even teaches you how to perform sophisticated aerial attacks. Don't miss out on this great title from Treasure.

Wow... This is a truly amazing game. If you like Bleach you should buy this without a thought in your head. If you don't know what the hell Bleach is, buy the game anyway, you'll love it. The only problems are 1, navagating the menu, which is easily solved by Ichigo's narration, and 2, not understanding a word the people say. If you know the story it will help a small bit, but besides that it's made up stuff supporting a story for each character. Finally, on Ichigo's Story you have to meet certain requirements to get a perfect raiting, and to move through the story as fast as you can. Walkthroughs on Gamespot .com will help you there.
It was hard for me at first to pull off more complicated moves, until I realized there's an option on the bottom left touch screen that allows you to simply touch a certain lettered box to pull of cool moves.
This is definately one of the best 2D fighting games around, and if you ever see it in America, it will probably wake over a year. Why wait when you can buy this highly acclaimed game now? Being able to use character's Bankai should be the selling point for any Bleach fan alone. But it now, you won't regret it!

One of the best 2d fighters around! If you like Bleach and 2d fighting, you HAVE to get this!
Developed by Treasure, this game is full of fantastic gameplay and awesome combos.
Dont be afraid of the language barrier. Its very import friendly and with a little help from a faq, you can understand everything that matters.

andre on 08, Aug. 2006 17:21 (HKT)
Onward Ho I got this game a few days ago, and I have unlocked all of the characters, and at 28 it is quite a hefty roster. They did not include some of the more important characters (Like hanatarou who played a large role in the soul society arc which is focused on in the game,), yet they instead add joke characters like bonnie which sort of annoyed me. Another (minor) trifle of mine is the costumes. Instead of just switching colors, the characters that have alternate costumes should be able to change onto that, instead of just alternating a shade. And what is up with Komamura and un-masked Komamura being two different characters with the exact same moveset? He really should just have an alternate outfit.
But besides these annoyances Bleach DS is a great game for fans of the anime, and fans of the fighting genre.
I look forward to seeing improvements made upon these issues in the second game.

If you're like me and LOVES combos, then you need this game!!! I just can't believe how cool the combos (bankais) on this game are!!!! GOD!!! Theyre SO freakin' cool! You'll get addicted to this game as soon as you touch it. The fighting system also makes thing much more easy and comfortable for people who doesn't have much experience on fighting games. So, even your grandfather can play this game! XD The replay value is excellent, because you star with 14 characters to choose, and then, on the story mode, you'll unlock another 14...then you'll have a total of 28 characters to choose...that's a LOT, isn't it? And please don't worry...I can't read japanese but I can play the game perfectly. You DON'T NEED TO KNOW JAPANESE to play this game, okay?! Don't worry. So, if you want a GREAT fighting games with lots of characters to choose, a very simple control system and lot's of freakin' cool combos and special attacks for you to "watch" (yes, some of the special combos last almost 30 seconds!!! cooool!!!!!), then please make yourself a favor and GET THIS GAME NOW!!!

Simpy amazing This is a very good import for the DS. I love the series and now, I love this game. I have not had it for too long, but I have already tried the wi-fi. It was incredibly easy to connect, even though everything was in Japanese. I did not have to translate anything, I just went with what looked logically correct and...voila! I was online playing against other Bleach fans instantly.
The story mode is incredible for each character, and there are so many moves that can be done with each one. Definately worth the $50! Now, time to go play some more!
kajoshiki(1) on 15, Jul. 2006 20:17 (HKT)
Definetly one of the best tittles for the DS out there This game is so easy to pick up and at the same time so deep that you will not want to stop playing for a while, TONS of unlockables and a whoopin` 28 playable characters, and yes...if you are a fan you will be knocked off with all the attention they have put to the details of the characters, from a normal kick or punch to a super move...you will see it and you will know that character has moved in a similar way in the anime.
Amazing fighting engine and REALLY DEEP combo system this game will leave you wanting to play more and more, the Wi-fi is also great allowing you to put friends codes or fighting ramdon battles, so import now...you won`t be dissapointed.!!!

Thanks Play-Asia! Thank you for the excellent shipping. The game is really easy to follow if you already know the story, so the language difference is no big problem. One of the best DS games by far.

Sega/Treasure creates another Gem! Fast shipping from Play-Asia and Fed-Ex as usual. Ordered Sunday and received on Tuesday. The game is amazingly brilliant. Easy control and combo scheme, and yet the characters are all so different that it makes each simple combo vastly different. The game seems daunting at first with its Japanese menu, but after an hour or two it becomes easily navigated. The gameplay is amazing and once you get the hang of it you will not put it down. Trust me, if you are looking for an addictive fighter this is it for the DS hands down. If you are a fan, this is a must own. Thanks Play-Asia!

By far my favorite import, ds game, and fighting game! Don't hesitate this game is so amazing! So many characters from the anime, so many story modes, I can't put it down! Kuchiki Byukia's bankai isnt done as well as I'd hoped but thats because im really picky about my games and my favorite character! Unlike the gamecube Bleach, on the DS you can stay in bankai mode and fight in bankai mode with ichigo and a few others for a long time. I havn't tried wifi, but me and my friend did download play. It takes a while on their ds to download but the overall sweetness makes it all the while. Best import ive EVER played! Lastly, every character in storymode allows you to play in their perspective as to what happend on the show. I wish I had more stars to give, it's that good
struan_sweeney_anpc(3) on 23, Jun. 2006 03:12 (HKT)
I pity those who don't import this is an amazing game, even if you haven't seen the anime you'll love it, there is only one clone character in the whole game - aprox. 30 chars. There are tons of normal moves and specials, and loads of other modes once you've completed the 20 or so single player stories - that's right stories, not battles!
Overall if you like fighting games, you'll love this, even if you don't I expect you'll liek it alot anyway - I don't like fighting games and lsiten to me now!
btw if theres a load of typos in this sorry my typing is atrocious :P

A Fan of the Anime, This is One Hell of Game Bleach has one of the best stories in anime, so when I heard about a DS game, I new I couldn't live without! This game has so much depth and even though I can't understand most of it, the gameplay is fantastic. This is what the US needs in fighting games! Great job Sega and thank you Nintendo for the DS Lite! Thank you Play-Asia.com!

Okay Fighter I enjoyed playing it for a few weeks and beat it fast. The fighting system is probably the best for the DS. If you already know the storyline the game will be easy to follow. The Japanese isn't a big problem really. So, good job Sega.

Bleach DS Is awesome! This is a great game and the fact that it can go online is great! I will play this for a long time. Their is also many characters to unlock. Worth every penny!

Japan gets the best games, I swear This game is right up there with Jump! Superstars. I don't even watch Bleach, and I've been enjoying this game for well over a month. There's a lot of unlockable characters, a combat system with great depth, and the fact that four characters can appear on screen at once is very cool. You can really develop a lot of combos in this, as each character has their own style/strengths. Also, the single card play is the best I've seen on the DS. You can be most of the characters and you can do FFA or teams. Extremelyyy fun, as me and my lil' bro have had over 20 matches this way in the past few days. I recommend this game to all those who enjoy Jump! Superstars, as well as all those who like games such as Marvel Vs. Capcom or the street fighter series.

Bleach DS: Souten ni Kakeru Unmei This is a great game. I and my friends have played this game non stop since I got it 17.03.06. And if you cant read the language of Japan. It dosn`t do any thing. It`s fight for the most time. If you don`t play story mode then. Then you get some pics with some text, but just hit the start button. And you skip it.
If you like Bleach, buy the game. It`s worth it.
animemaster on 25, Mar. 2006 04:16 (HKT)
Anonymous on 10, Mar. 2006 13:29 (HKT)
Much better then other bleach games have been Solid combat system with an emphasis on stringing moves together (try clearing challenge mode and you'll see the possibilities). Plays a lot like guilty gear, except at a tad slower pace. Characters are balanced enough, though some have moves that can be exploited to no end. Also, its worthy to note that this game is virtually clone free. There is only one clone, and he was a real let down, a less then cool looking hollow ichigo. Language barrier is not much of an issue, you don't miss much critical information though you will want to go to gamefaqs for help in order to proceed farther into ichigo's story mode unless you enjoy playing the same battles over and over and over and over and over and over. . .you get the idea. In all great game and worth checking out if you enjoy guilty gear or other fighters of its speed.

Bleach DS Game looks great. Easy to get the hang of and just an all round good game for Bleach fans.

No title This game is a highly enjoyable fighter for a handheld, it’s easy to get into, simplistic, and addictively fun. Furthermore it gets massive bonus points if you were/are a fan of the anime or manga.
Sadly this is also it’s one problem, the combat system is to simple.
If you are looking for a top notch DS game, or a simple and addictive fighter this is the game for you. If you are looking for a technical fighter along the lines of Capcom, or SNK’s finest you’re better off sticking with a console fighter.
On a side note- If you have been disappointed by the shoddy bleach games for the PSP, this game might change your mind. Treasure has always made unique, and highly addictive games, and this one is a gem.

A Wonderful Fighting Game Bleach is a wonderful 2d-fighter. It's good enough that, even though I watch the anime and plan to read the manga, I still forget it's an "anime-based fighting game." It may very well be the best anime-based fighting game made by far.
Surprisingly, the game plays and flows similarly to Guilty Gear X. It's a joy to play 1on1 as well as 4 player (team or melee). Depth actually exists in the game and online play is wonderful.
Strictly rating it as a 2d fighter, I'd give it 4 or 4.5 stars. It's wonderful, though I don't think it's gonna take over the top spot int he minds of Third Strike fans, or MvC 2 fans, or GGX fans, or SNK fans, or Alpha 3 fans. But it's gonna be a wonderful game that does so many things right. Furthermore, I think it's the best handheld fighting game I've played by far.
As a DS or a handheld fighter, it's 5 stars. Yes, the game has elements that make it more accessable to beginners, but there's actual depth and it is a technical fighter and you get to see some good play put on display when playing online ranking matches against Japan/Asian players.
Highly recommended for anyone who enjoys 2d fighting games!

This game owns OMG! This is like the greatest game I have ever laid my pudgy, fat hands on. Seriously, my hand started to bleed because I couldn't put it down. I think I need to buy a new DS since my Buttons and D-Pad have caved in.
