Mostly there
The only reason it gets 4 stars is because if you watch the movie, then you will already know basically what happens should you decide to play the games. The storyline is described as being "remixed," which it is, but mostly only to explain everything that is going on in the time allotted. However, this was an excellent movie, coming from the perspective of somebody who watched the movie first.
In fact, it was the movie that got me interested in GU in the first place, since I played the original .hack games and didn't like the idea of changing the characters.
Overall, it does a very good job presenting vital story points as best as it can in the time it runs. We have to remember that, being a movie, it cannot run for 5 hours to fit in all of the story. This allows for people who enjoyed the movie to play the games and still not get bored, since the games are in the same general direction, but the storyline is different.

The game story is much than this.
They speed up the story a lot, even the key parts of hack/GU were presented horribly. Although the visuals were very well done but the movie itself has too many sudden moments and events. Its like only those who played the game only understand whats going on.
The package does come with the artwork of .hack//GU which is not too bad but I really dont suggest getting this.
