故事根據韓國歷史上真實人物改編而成，是長今從宮廷廚師一直提升到禦醫的奮鬥故事，敘述十六世紀描寫朝鮮王朝中宗時期，孤女長今七歲時，父母因捲入宮廷鬥爭而遭殺害。為完成母親的心願，因緣際會進入宮中之後，因天資聰明和刻苦勞力而受到矚目，但也在宮中人事的傾軋中遭到陷害，甚至還被留放到外島。但長今不向命運低頭，潛心學習醫術，並融入宮廷膳食中，最後竟意外挽救王上的性命，受到國王的信賴，成為韓國第一位女御醫並受為「大長今」。長今是個積極上進的女子，不過在感情上，她卻渺小、脆弱夾在皇帝與判官間。
"Jewel In The place'' Is based on true story about A legendary girl [Jang geum] who became the first woman to be supreme royal physician of her time.
