Boom Fail putting them on a few tries, dont bother anymore, gets worse everytime. It's supposed to protect my screen but it makes it look so uglier with all the bubbles I can't stand it.
DS screen is not open air like GBA anyway.
I got it seeing all the good reviews; now im just using the cleaning cloth that comes with it. Make the screens liquid crystal in the first place Nintendo !
Dissappointing product

Awesome product! I'm using these protectors for a few days now, and I'm really impressed. Concerning other protectors you often hear complaints about the installation, the glue or decreases in screen brightness.
These little babies from Hori are easy to install, have good glue and the screen's brightness is still 100%. It might be just my imagination, but I think the vision seems to be slightly clearer now that the filters are installed.
The installation of the touchscreen filter was no problem, the installation for the upper screen one was a bit tricky. I still have some (very, very small) bubbles there, but they're at the border of the filter, where the black frame of the screen is. Let me notice that I used four or five attempts to install the upper screen protector and this thing glued as good on the screen as in the first try.
The stylus feeling on the filter ist almost exactly the same as without any filter, if you'd ask me. Great filters, absolutely recommendable!

Very good protector, damn installation It was unpossible to me, to install that protector on my DS without any dust -_- And the more you're trying, the more dust will appear. So, be satisfied with your first try, otherwise it will become more worse...

One more thing... I forgot to mention one thing, however. For the rest of my review, please see below.
It does seem to be thicker than other protectors I've used. What this means is that you have to press a little harder on the screen than you may be used to and you may feel a slight drag (it actually feels soft, if you get my meaning) when moving the stylus across the screen as well.
This really shouldn't hurt gameplay at all and you should soon be used to it.
Again, it's the best protector out there - hands down.
Mattroid(16) on 18, Apr. 2006 14:07 (HKT)
Wow Previously, I had some cheap protector I got a Game Crazy for like $2. I ordered these knowing of Hori's great reputation and all the great reviews.
First off, it's just SO much better than any other protector I've ever seen for any system. So far, I've seen no scratches at all from any stylus I've used (standard Nintendo one and the "Stretch Touch Pen"). The blemishes that appeared to be scratches simply wiped off.
Of course, just like all others, it's a pain to apply correctly. Air bubbles are about nonexistant, though, which is more than I can say for others I've used. Just try your best to be in a room with little debris in the air and you should be fine. Once you get it one, though, it's worth the trouble.
Clear as day - well worth the money.

Once you get it right, it's excellent! I bought couple of these, because I have two NDS systems. The one that goes to the top screen is quite easy to install. And once it's there, it's about perfect.
The one to the touch screen is not so easy to put on. You have to bend the "shield" to get it there. I got a little mark on mine, because I bend it too much... But when the screen is on, it's not visible. So not a problem. The second one I installed to my other DS went OK as I knew not to bend it too much.
I've had there protectors now for about 5 months and they are still looking great. And the touch screen works perfectly with stylus, even that the protector is on.
Thumbs up!

Instructions in Japanese Not a big surprise but the instructions are in Japanese ONLY. They both have a protective film on both sides that will have to be removed. The smaller of the 2 goes on the bottom. Hope this helps.

The best protectors ever! I had no problems with the installation, they are very easy
to use, all you have to do is get rid of the dust on your ds screens at first and you will have no bubbles!

The best. This is the best screen protector you could possibly purchase.
Hori has a great track record for console peripherals and acessories and this is no different.
Anyone giving this product a low ranking is attempting to compensate for thier own ineptitude/clumsiness.

WOOPS!!? I accidentally placed them on the opposite screens! Woops, yet, when i did have them on they were soo clear!! Amazingly unoticable, protects whole screen, easily removabe. I've had other protectors, but none as clear, and as good quality. If you can have patience and push the air bubbles out with the soft card, and get them on the right screens, you've got the best screen protectors!!

Pretty Good Buy two of them because if you have never put on screen protectors before on your ds you will need practice... The top is easy but the bottom screen is hella hard...

The best screen protector out there... Hands down, this is the best screen protector out there in the market. I noticed a lot of people out there are whining this and that about this item. So here's a tip from my experience. First, get an alcohol wipe and wipe the DS screens until it's spotless. Then, apply the screen protector, and remove the coating film (the one that has the red tab to it). If there's any dust, then apply scotch tape on the protector and lift it. And then gently remove the dust with scotch tape.

Easy to get dust under They work great no problem putting them on. and most bubbles i've gotten rid of. but the dust that got under the protectors are hard to get out. plus they are real har getting off.

Excellent The protectors, once applied, are almost unnoticible.
The top is very easy to put on, as you just wipe the screen and apply.
The Bottom, however, as you can tell from the other numerous reviews. Is quite a pain to do right. I don't really have any dust free rooms in my home(Its always dusty around the area I live) so it took me numerous attempts to get the bottom screen on until I was satisfied..
Highly recommended, just be sure to have patience when you apply them.
Neffi(20) on 03, Nov. 2005 07:31 (HKT)
Easy to put on I don't understand what's everyone whining about. I had no trouble putting them on my screen!
Just remember to clean & wipe your screen before putting on this. And be careful and SURE when you put this on. Very good screen protector. When I used the stylus on it I felt a tiny little bit of friction due to the new surface. But after a week or so, my stylus goes over really smoothly over it.
D.Lo(3) on 29, Oct. 2005 11:31 (HKT)
Hard to put on, but worth it. The best part is that it doesn't use any adhesive except static (despite what these other comments say) - so you can re-position it many times, to get it perfect. Still takes a while, but you can get the ultimate result with patience.

No title WOW. The screen Protectors from Hori are really great. But they acres noticeably with more drueber the slid with the stylus, but they liesen themselves nearly bubble freely lay on. I have on bubble because of a stupid dust-peach.... but also Great! Also they fit perfectly!

BLAH it blows. I got extremely confused and messed em up. Now i'm left with the screen cleaner :) YAY. Yea, it wasn't useful to me because i got frustrated with the bubbles, and the bottom screen fooled me with that invisible stuff but it made it look like i had bubbles of DOOOM. I didn't like the look so i removed em and now am happily alone to where i originally was. This isn't here to create an argument but to state my opinion. Use extra caution if you use them i guess.

good stuff i got mine today, just remember, each protctor is between two sheets of film, the top is adhesive while the bottom is not. the bottom has sticky stuff on it that nver gets dull, its kinda weird. but the bubles are annoying, just make sure there is no dust on protector or DS

Pretty Good the only problem, is the small bubbles for the screen of bottom. they is irritating not to be able to get rid some. besides, it is well.

great but very hard to put on...AIR BUBBLES these Hori screen protectors are great from keeping the screen clear of scratchs...the top you dont even no its there...the bottom...has some air bubbles on it from the dust on the sticky side...but its better then scracths...the bottom screen portector was very hard to put on...
P.S can the dust on the sticky side of the protectors damage the touch screen?

Good for top screen, SPS better for bottom WOW! The Hori top screen protector is amazing. Crystal clear and very easy to apply. Once it is on, it is almost impossible to even notice. I give the top screen protector from Hori a 5 out of 5. However, I have found that the bottom screen protector by Hori is not as good as the bottom screen protector by SPS. The SPS has a better touch screen feel and does hide scratches. The Hori bottom screen protector does not cover up the scratches and is very difficult to apply and does not have as smooth a feel as the SPS protector. I give the Hori bottom screen protector 3 out of 5. For the best results, I recommend the Hori protectors for the top screen and the SPS protectors for the bottom screen.

Mmm DS Yesterday i went tottaly kazoe and decided that the one scratch i got on my ds's touch screen *blame xy xx* was never happen again. That and i really wanted to personalize my DS without trading it in for an electric blue one *bless best buys insurance* So i purchased a gamer graffix and the pelican protection screens. The pelican protectors are a labour of love. As soon as i took the bottom screen off poof, dust and grease all over it, so now my ds looks like it was nawed on by a 3 year old. Thus why i came here, read up and ordered both the SPS and Hori. When they arrive ill see how the fair against their american counter part.

very good protection for the DS screens! the touch-screen protector is indeed hard to take off once you put it on, but if there's dust stuck on the protectors while you try to put them on, you can wash them with dish soap (like Palmolive green liquid dish soap) and some water to rince it, don't be afraid to use your fingers on it, but don't bend it!
here's a tip: to dry it off without using a cloth that could leave dust or lint on it, use a compressed air-duster, like the ones they use to clean computers from dust, and hold it on the sides and make sure it's completely dry! and PLEASE make sure your screen is dust and lint-free before applying it, or you'll have to clean the protector again (i cleaned mine like 4 times before applying it perfectly!).
when applying it, start from 1 side and make sure to put a small pressure with a finger while applying it slowly, to squeeze out the tiny "rebelious" air bubbles if they're some.

Good, but not best These HORI protectors are good, just read the reviews.
HOWEVER "Soft Protective Seal" has an edge for two reasons:
The HORI 'feels' most like the DS screen: plastic with a slight drag. The SPS has a 'teflon' feel which makes for silky control. The SPS will also hide any scratches thanks to the anti glare coating, HORI does not.

Shame about my dusty room This official screen protector is in really high standard. Thanks to Hori for producing another good quality accessory for NDS. The protect sheets will stick on the screen very automatically and it is very easy for you to squeeze out the air bubbles (without any dust). Once the dust gets on to the sticky side of the protector, it’s difficult to get rid of it and the air bubbles will be generated by the dust between the protector and the screen. So try to do it in a dust-free room. It’s also quite easy to replace the protector if you have made a mistake. Try to use the harder plastic sheet which comes with the “black” piece of protector to lift the bottom one up in preventing damaging the screen. I have only managed to get my top screen perfectly covered; unfortunately, there are still some bubbles on my bottom screen. It’s a shame of my dusty room. Good luck to yours.

Good protecters but REALLY hard to put on correctly. One thing you NEED to know when buying this is that the screen protectors are stuck onto the screen with an adheisive. The #1 problem is that dust gets trapped under it really fast and stays stuck. If this happens, you're basically screwed and need to buy a new one. You will need to find an area that is 100% dust free to put them on right. The 2nd thing is that the purpose of screen protecters is the take the damage while protecting the screen. Here lies the other problem, if you want to remove or replace them, they're REALLY hard to take off! It's strange, they're not really sticky or anything and won't leave any residue from the adheisive, but once they're on your DS, they're not going to come off without a serious fight. I ended up scratching the corner of the screen trying to remove it. They're not bad if you manage to put them on perfectly, but putting it on perfectly happens to be really hard. It really deserves a 3 and 1/2 rather then a 4.

Pretty Good Very easy to apply. Though I mest up and tried to reapply them, and dust got on the screen. Then they got stuck on the protectors. Then I tried to remove the dust with a card, and that ended up scraching it O_O + more dust. Lesson: Apply in a completely dust free room, and try to get it right the first time,

rev_jojo(1) on 12, Jan. 2005 12:59 (HKT)
Woo-hoo! First, let me say that when you're finished, you'll be extremely happy with the results. This is a very nice set of screen protectors, but since they go on very small screens, they're heck to get on.
The top screen is a breeze- warm up with it. I suggest going from the upper left corner, pinning it down with your index finger, then swiveling it into position as you lay it from left to right. If you get these odd, wavy lines simply lift up from the bottom right corner to just past the wave, then pay it back down, while applying a bit of pressure with the other hand (using the cloth of course).
The bottom screen is a devil. It's deeply inset, and I think this is the screen that kills most people with this process. It's also the 1 screen in which you want 0 dirt, as anything under it when you move your stylus across could potentially scratch the heck out of it.
No worries: use the same method above only this time take note and start just a hair (maybe 1/16th of an inch or less) from the top and side. Pin it down, and work it. MIne came out 90% the first time I laid it- I had a nasty little piece of dust from the cloth (that cloth everyone talks about- it's great for cleaning, but it WILL BREAK APART AND IT WILL LEAVE ARTIFACTS). My 2nd time to lay it was impossible- once you lift it up it's got dust on it. I needed something which a) would clean and lubricate the bottom side, b) would evaporate quickly and leave no streaking or residue, and c) wouldn't harm the touch-screen: Rubbing Alcohol and Water.
First I thoroughly cleaned the screen with soapy water (at your own risk, water by itself works fine) and used alcohol to cut the soap out. Then I poured some alcohol and water in a soda bottle cap, being careful this whole darn while not to turn the screen face up, or touch it to anything (check it by the glare of some lights). Take the mixture of diluted alcohol and rub on the bottom of the screen. Blow on it once for luck (heh), and start laying it.
Mine laid smooth, I was able to shift it around, and having dried in seconds is 100% perfect, and 100% perfectly centered.
If only I could make money doing this.
This really works, I really did it, and it's really great to have my DS protected.
The screens themselves are great, aside from the installation of the bottom screen, I'm really impressed with the material and how it's holding up thus far considering all the testing I'm putting it through.
Oh, like the last guy stated- have a nice sticky piece of masking tape or packing tape (what I used) ready. Remember- if you pull UP it'll pull the tape off, but if you gently pull BACK it'll lift the screen.

Protecting your DS is a good thing I am obsessive when it comes to keeping systems like my DS in perfect condition. So as soon as I got mine, the two accessories on my list were hard shell case and screen protectors.
After hearing some negative feedback some other brands, I decided to test my luck on these and ordered two packages. They arrived within a week of the placement using the basic, cheapest shipping.
This is a good quality screen protector set. Once applied, these will keep your screens safe from damage, and in doing that much are worth purchasing especially at the negligible price of $7.
The upper filament will cover the screen completely. The lower leaves a thin border space remaining, so it will have to be centered for best results. But the thin space is irrelevant to the much wider tip of a stylus pen, and is probably necessary for removal if you should need to change protectors at some point.
Fortunately, these should last for some time. The touchscreen protector is thick and durable. After applying it, I used Feel the Magic to test because it has the most stylus-intensive play out of the available DS games to date. I tried out various minigames such as monocycle (for precision), painter (for precision+intensity), final battle (for sheer intensity), and seeker (intensity is very important). I wanted to put it through the works of standard to harsh treatment, within the bounds of reasonable use and not running a rusty nail or spilling soda across it, and see just how much it would withstand and whether it would wear easily. I was happy to find that the protector does not diminish the responsiveness, nor does it blur or otherwise distort the graphics.
The texture with the protector is different when combined with the original screen, providing what I would describe as a more "solid" resistance to the pen's touch. While the unprotected DS screen has lower resistance, slightly depressing the surface when the pen is applied, this feels more like moving it across a solid surface. This isn't hard to imagine since there is more width involved by adding the one to the other.
After my testing trial, I gave the screen a wipe down with my protective cloth (purchased in an eyeglass cleaning kit; the one included in this package seems coarse and generic in comparison) and all the streaks leftover from the pen went away. I've yet to play it more extensively than some Feel the Magic, Mario 64 DS minigames, and a few times through the Metroid demo, but so far this appears to be scratch resistant at least as much as the original touch screen. And considering that no matter what its condition your touchscreen will remain unscathed, this is functionally unnecessary but nice nonetheless.
The drawbacks are exclusive to the installation of the protectors. As others here have mentioned, dust and air bubbles are the chief concerns, and despite my efforts to install it in a dust-free environment I was still forced to make multiple attempts in applying the touchscreen protector. As otherwise recommended, a piece of tape prepared beforehand can help to get rid of dust. And even if you manage to get every miniscule bit off (and it will be very noticeable if you don't) you'll still have problems juggling this with the presence of air bubbles. After about five or six applications, I managed to get mine in a satisfactory condition, though there remains a small but mostly unnoticeable bit of air bubble toward the bottom left and along the left side of my screen that I can't seem to iron out of it. In other words, expecting it to be perfect is probably expecting too much.
The top one went on almost flawlessly, though being much thinner and stickier you would want to be certain it's centered perfectly before applying, as it's harder to remove and reposition.
These installation difficulties are expounded because the instructions are wholly dismissable being in japanese only, and the images are barely distinguishable from the actual product. For example, when I first applied the touchscreen protector I found that permanent marks were being left which had me believing it was a poor quality product. Later I discovered there was still a very thin piece of plastic remaining behind which only seperated by wedging a razor blade between the two. There's just no way to figure these things out using the instructions, so you'll have to be attentive.
Apart from the unintelligible instructions, I would assume that the difficulties are inherent with any filament protector, so it's hardly something for which I would fault this particular product. Opinion-wise, I give this four stars simply because I don't know how it might rate against other similar products, but as far as effectively protecting the screens; leaving no residue; not interfering with the accuracy of the control; and being of high enough quality to not look worse than if I were playing my DS bare; this has worked as well as I had hoped for.

Good cloth but the sreen protector sucks First of all, i had to wait 3 weeks to get it (with air mail) :-(
then it is very difficult to put the protector on the top sreen without leaving some bubbles (i was trying during about one hour!!!) .And, the second one get off every time i use my NDS.
So if you want a good cloth in order to clean the screens ,buy it
otherwise you risk to waste your money and your time....

Could be worse I agree with most of the other reviewers... these things are hard if possible to get on... perhaps a can of compressed air would have been useful... That said, the top protector is pretty nice, however I've so far been unable to get the bottom protector on at all without seeing masses of distortion due to hundreds of air bubbles (which seem to be to do with the already soft texture of the touch screen...)
Not worth it imho... and the cleaning cloth isnt as good as people are saying.

Please don't waste your money... In short: Don't even bother if you're thinking of ordering.
First off, it took a day less than 3 weeks after it shipped to arrive at my house, using the cheapest shipping method. Christmas time or not, that is a LONG time. Just a heads up for those wondering what shipping method to use with them.
Alright, so as for the screens themselves. I try to be as optimistic as I can about these types of things, and try to work around problems, or convince myself that it being a add on, it's not going to be perfect. But I just can't with these things.
The Top Screen
The top part was easy, as the screen is flush with the casing. If you make a mistake, it's fairly easy to pull it back off. It took a few tries to get all of the dirt out so that it would leave no bubbles, but you enventually get the hang of it. You don't even notice that there is a protector on top, it looks great. Take your time, and it will look great.
This is great, except for one very minor probelm... I didn't order these things for a top-screen protector, because I generally don't touch it.
The Bottom Screen
The bottom protector is what I got it for, because I'm dragging a finger or stylus or thumb-dealy across it. Unfortunately, the bottom screen protector sucks.
Due to the touch screen being sunken down into the casing, it makes it harder to clean the edges, then to apply the screen. Not the screen protectors fault, but just a warning for those who are going to try them. It'll be like this for every screen protector though, unless one of them come up with some great idea.
Anyway, as for the protector itself... You DO see this on the system. It's fairly thick, and is a bit of a different color, so you do see it. This is extremely disapointing, considering how nice the top one looks.
I tested the stylus in PictoChat and found that it does have a bit of a performance effect. With NO protector, if you VERY lightly drag the stylus over the screen, it will draw. WITH the protector, and you do the same thing, it will not draw anything. Drawing with more of a normal pressure seems to be OK, as I didn't find any noticable difference.
My DS touch screen looked perfect before I put it on, and that is with having had it since early-mid December, and using the stylus, my finger, and the thumbstrap. I have only seen two VERY minor scratches, no more than a centimeter in length, and you REALLY have to be look for them in the perfect light, with the system off, and with it tilted at the perfect angle. And just as a note, I take extremely good care of my stuff, so I sort of doubted ever really needing a protector in the first place.
I put on the screen, drew on it with the stylus, played around, and then wiped it off (with the included cloth, which is nice, I guess, but the greatness has been really exagerated). I already have noticed a great number of "scratches" on the protector much more noticeable than the ones on the actual screen. I say that because they're not deep or super noticable, but noticeable none the less. And you see them when looking at the system, unlike the scratches on my screen, in which you have to really look at the screen and search for scratches. It seems that when you wipe it, it even leaves a mark. I don't know if that's just the poor quality of the protector, or the cloth, but either way it's bad. So in other words, the protectors aren't of high quality, and seem like they're going to wear out VERY quickly. And then it seems like it's almost impossible to remove the bottom one. I have no idea how to do it, anyway.
Oh, and here's the real kicker. The bottom screen protector in my first package that I recieved does actually have flaws in it, right out of the package. Two small circles near the center of the screen. The best way I could describe them to you is it's as if these two small circles are thinner than the rest of the protector. Probably not common at all, but I just LOVE finding flaws in an already sub-par product.
Conclusion
If you're worried about the top screen, buy 'em. The top one is excellent. If you're worried about the bottom screen at all, don't buy these things. And don't tell me you are worried about the top and not the bottom, because if you do, you'd be lying. They are DEFINATELY not worth $6.99. And you know what's funny, in a way? I bought two, since everyone talked about how great the will be/are. I figured I can give one to my brother if he wants, or I'd just keep it. Now I'll probably be stuck with them.
Final Verdict:
Save your money. I can't stress that enough.

decent not that bad really, it takes some time to get it on right, but just use some selotape if you get dust on it.

A must for keeping the touchscreen tip-top I ordered these with my copy of Warioware and without them, im sure my touchscreen would be scrached up real bad now. They're an absolute must for keeping the touch screen perfect. And i can live with a few minor bubbles! :)

Good cloth at least. I must admit, the cloth was really good, however... the screen protecters were rediculousy hard to get on without bubbles, I just couldn't do it. The touch screen one almost destroyed my ability to use the touch pad, I couldn't get it off with all of the air bubbles!
Highly don't reccommend the screen guards, but the cloth leaves my screen without a spec of dirt.

Suprisingly Good The covers are good for both the touch screen and top screen, the only downside to this product is the top screen is not a brighter as before the cover is put on but its not much of a difference. The cloth on the other hand is very good, it attracts the dust off the screens...somehow...but a good product worth buying if you like to keep it clean.

Better than anything here I noticed a couple of scratches on my DS a few days after I got it (actual scratches, I'm 100% certain) so I ran out and bought the Pelican screen protectors they sell in the US. Simply put, they were crap. They got dirty easily, didn't cover the screen fully, and looked terrible. This one is actually cheaper (even with shipping), fits well, and it nice and smooth. I did have the air bubble problem, but it's really no big deal. Just as long as my screen doesn't get scratched up any more.

No title The protectors themselves are great, they are semi-rigid and they fit the screens well. But like the other reviewers said, there is a problem with getting the protectors on without getting small airs bubbles. I have found a solution to this! The reason for the air bubbles is because of small flecks of dust that get in between the protector and the DS's screens. Dust is not only found on the DS's screens, but they can get on the protectors as well. My solution is, after wiping the DS screens completely clean with the included cloth, take a piece of clear plastic tape, wrap it around your finger, then "stick" it onto the surface of the protectors to remove any pieces of dust that are on there. Just make sure that you use the tape on the side of the protector that is actually being stuck onto the DS screens. It took me a long time because there always seemed to be some dust stuck somewhere, but eventually I managed to get the protectors on without any air bubbles nor dust in between at all. If you take the time to try and do a good job, it will be worth it.

Pretty Great Definitely a trick to getting them on right. Helps to have a functional knowledge of Japanese, too (although there are diagrams, they're pretty spare). The cloth is a welcome bonus, and doubles as a glasses cleaner! In the end, this is a great product for obsessive-compulsives. Is it necessary? Not really. The DS is a sturdy bit of hardware, designed to take its fair share of roughing up. But if you're concerned about keeping it as 'like new' as possible, I highly recommend these.

Pretty Good These are great except for trying to get on without any bubbles can be a little hard. They do not make any difference to the screen's picture or sensitivity. Dont know what the other reviewer is talking about. Cleaning cloth is great too.

Bad protectors, Good Cloth Well the protectors left air bubbles no matter how i put them on. However the cloth it comes with is perfect for the screens.
Need screen protectors? Waste of Money
Need a good cleaning cloth? Great product

Worth it for the cloth these are not to great they kind of darken the image and are not that easy to place on without leaving bubbles. the cloth that comes with them tho is excellent for cleaning the screens.
