description
Valkyria Chronicles II, the highly anticipated sequel to the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment systems most acclaimed tactical RPG Valkyria Chronicles, comes exclusively to the PSP® (PlayStation®Portable) system. The game takes place two years after the conclusion of the original game and takes you back to the epic adventure set in 1930s fictitious Europe. In this sequel, you play as a group of young Gallian Military Academy cadets who find themselves plunged into a bitter civil war when the newly formed Gallian Revolutionary Army stages a coup. As the drama and battle unfold, you will experience stories of friendship, love and growing pains during a time of war and revolution.
The CANVAS engine originally developed by SEGA Game Studios Japan for Valkyria Chronicles on the PlayStation®3 is being fully redesigned for the PSP system. This incredibly distinctive engine will power over 20 new distinct and visually stunning environments where you will have hundreds of different missions to explore. The BLiTZ battle system has also been re-designed to offer players the freedom to strategically move around the environment and attack enemies using real-time controls, something never before seen in the tactical role-playing game genre.

Nice rendition!
While i'd prefer it to be continued in PS3, this PSP version sure get the jobs done. Still have nice gameplay, good story and catchy visual style. Good job sega!

A real shining treasure for your collection.
Gameplay: 5/5
Very addict turn-based battle simulation system. Nicely done on combining shooting action and strategy elements. Encouraging replay gaming after the main story is done.
Story: 4/5
Simple linear and short story. However, some events and cut scenes is really touching. The interaction with classmates is really interesting approach.
Graphic: 5/5
Water drawing style and anime-style character design in cool. Story telling in 2D animation, but the battle system is full 3D.
Sound: 4.5/5
The English cast and narrator is good. Although I would prefer Japanese original voice actors with English subtitle. The sound effect and background music is nicely done too.
Overall: 5/5
It is worth for playing. If you like turn-base strategy game that can play over and over, you would love this one. I recommend for your enjoyment!

A somewhat-enjoyable mixed bag
As a fan of the first Valkyria Chronicles on PS3, I will review this sequel by comparison.
Likes:-
1). Large and diverse cast with their own backstories in Classmate Missions
2). Armoured Tech class. I admit I was hesitant when I first heard of it but I really enjoy using them in the game
3). No CP wasted when calling troops out from camps
4). Customizable tank. APC that can carry troops around is also fun to use
Dislikes:-
1). ^unit deployment limit. This severely cripples the game and prevents it from reaching full potential. Also discourages the even use of all the classes for advancement credits
2). Random credit distribution. Characters advance and change classes through the use of credits. Credits are earned by having the character perform duties in battle. Random credit distribution leads to some incredibly frustrating moments because characters cannot be assigned and promoted as you see fit but you are instead held hostage by the random generator
3). Because of Armoured Techs, the Engineer class is basically worthless. Healing soldiers and repairing tanks are a rare occurrence, and they are reduced to buffing as Anthem Corps
4). Snipers now part of Scout tree. Will take some time to get one
5). Cheap bosses. In the first game, only Valkyrur bosses are superhuman. In this one, normal human bosses like Baldren and Juliana are superhuman with no explanation. Why bother developing Artificial Valkyrur?
6). Cheap battles. Enemies can magically appear in areas where all camps have been conquered. This was rare in the previous game and part of the story, while it happens frequently in this one for no reason
Valkyria Chronicles 2 is not a waste for fans of the first game, as it does stay true to the core gameplay mechanics in many ways. You may just find yourself wishing that it was much better made than it is.
