    METAL GEAR PORTABLE OPS
i'll be a dissenting voice here, for those of you who don't do a lot of connected PSP play. while the pokemon-like wireless aspects of this game are a technical achievement, it does make this a different game than straight-up stealth action. the levels in this game seem designed to facilitate the ally-collecting aspect of the game, but don't really present a the game's world in a realistic (ie. engrossing) way. as well, i found the controls a little counter-intuitive, even with some tweaking. all that being said, the game's use of the PSP's wireless modes is original and a real achievement, if that's the type of game you want to play. if you just want to sneak around and complete mission objectives to further an intriguing story, you ought to play one of the syphon filter games.

It's a great game, finally I know the missing stories in saga. Hopefully Konami will release digital novel version for Outer Heaven stores. Thx play-asia, for fast delivery :)

    Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops
Fans of the Metal Gear Solid (MGS) series have patiently waited for the game to make it to the PlayStation Portable (PSP). There was the turn-based strategy game Metal Gear Acid (MGA) and its sequel, but its gameplay was not quite like the quirky, yet heart-pumping tactical espionage that was MGS.

Set six years after the events in MGS3, Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops (MPO) puts you once again in the shoes of Naked Snake, who is thrown into yet another intricate plot involving terrorists and nuclear-armed walking tanks. This time round, Snake is not alone in his mission. A little into the game, you get the ability to capture and recruit soldiers for use in missions. Recruiting becomes an essential strategy, as recruited soldiers can blend in and sneak around easier. You can derive a lot of fun from recruiting soldiers from wireless access points around you - imagine walking around your neighbourhood adding to your army!

The bulk of gameplay consists of plenty of tactical espionage action - your character has to sneak around, interrogate enemies, shoot them and run around a lot, causing mayhem along the way. It is a very good thing that the game consists of multiple missions - each of them short and sweet, typically lasting less than 15 minutes. These missions add up to well over 10 hours of gameplay. Controls, while complex, are also fairly inituitive. Seasoned MGS veterans may require a bit of practice to adjust, though. Once you are through with the single-player mode, you can engage friends, and others around the world, with its multiplayer options like Deathmatch and Capture The Flag.

Another fan feature to look out for is the cyber survival mode, where you deploy squads of soldiers to fight against other squads online, even while you are not playing the game. An irksome camera system is probably the only thing which could be improved in the game - you may find yourself struggling against the camera when soldiers are on the alert and shooting you down. Nevertheless, Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops is just about everything an MGS fan could want on a portable. The bite-sized missions and compelling storyline make this game a definite hit. Recommended for anyone seeking some sneaking action.

I had my doubts about MGSPO but it turned out pretty good, pretty darn good.

Impressive visuals and concepts and I think I'm the only one who enjoyed the analog. It was smooth & saxy.

Speaking of saxy, I wish The Boss were recruitable, maybe in a sequel or prequel sequel prequel.

    Awesome
The Boss of all PSP games. This is one of the best in the series. A better story than MGS3 and better gamepaly than the rest of the series

no doubt the best psp game thus now
psp lacks a killer software. i think most of us agree on that fact. i have never played MGS on PS2 or PSX, and i am not a fan of stealthy action based game. basically i am more an RPG gamer. however, this game, due to its kinda-RPG feature has attracted my attention, and seriously that really changes my perspective of MGS! i certainly will go back to play PS2 and hopefully soon MGS4 on PS3

    Best Title on PSP
I have been a Metal Gear Fan since I played the first title on PSone. I didn't play MGS3 because I don't feel like it without a Radar. I bought this game accidently and I figure out that this is the right choice. I cannot stop playing it after I took it out from the box. You won't regret buying this game.

    Overrated
I intentionally bought a PSP for the sole reason to play MGSPO and I am disappointed. Being an MGS fan, I find this game too much of a chore, really. Recruiting and dragging enemy all the way back to an ally (or the truck) is a total waste of time, especially when the ally can't detect the enemy and the fact that the lousy menu takes ages to load. This game takes too much time to do anything.

This MGS is nowhere as good as the console version. You can't save at your whim and fancy (worse case, if you died in a boss battle, all your effort in recruiting the enemies of that particular stage will be wasted!). Controls are fiddly and using the PSP analog nub makes Snake feel like he's skating on ice. MGSPO doesn't live up to its predecessors. It changes too much of the classic formula and now all you have is PokeGearSolid. Graphics and brand name can't save this game from an utterly horrid game experience. Ignore this review at your own risk.

    PS: Sorry, PlayAsia!

    Good
Very happy with MGS:PO. The online play really adds to the excellence of the game, I think! The story is interesting, and the occasional twist make it very good!

Awesome MGS action on the go
finally a PSP Metal Gear Solid (MGS) action game on the portable system.. this game is the real deal, it plays like the console version. it also has some new hybrid game play mechnism of the action and strategy genre. now you are given the opportunity to plan where you'll strike next and to advance the story.. and also the new system of recruiting soldiers in the game to help you and you can recruit up to 100 people. the online is great with no lag in all the games i've played. definitely a must have for MGS fans!
