説明書
The First Departure is an enhanced remake of the original Star Ocean and features an entire overhaul of the original game's engine, using Star Ocean: The Second Story's engine instead with similar features, including prerendered backgrounds and 3D battle fields. Production I.G. provides new artwork and animated cutscenes for the game. New playable characters have found their way into the remake as well. There are new voice actors and extensive amounts of new, fully voiced dialogue.

Basically
Without spoiling this is the very first Star Ocean game that was remade using the Star Ocean 2 graphical engine, meaning the levels/sprites are all news, and it has a lot of the features Star Ocean 2 has.
The game is both fun and enjoyable, its much shorter than Star Ocean Second Departure, can be beaten in about 20hours.

Exciting Action RPG
Beautifully animated cut-scenes and surprisingly talented voice actors make this game a excellent addition to anyone's collection. Unlike most RPGs, where you have a limited amount of character development, this game lets the play decide how much to let a character grow. The optional "Action" commands outside of towns allow the player to see another side of their characters, that may not always be evident in the basic game play.
There is also a wide range of characts whom you may choose from. It's possible to have nothing but guys, girls, or a mix in your party, depending on your preferences. There is also a nice mix of mages and warriors, so you aren't stuck dealing with just one white mage whether you like the character or not.
This game was all about exploring different possibilities. While the storyline is not the most intricate out there as far as RPGs are concerned, it definitely allows for a wide diversity of players. If you like action RPGs at all, you'll definitely be able to find your own niche in the game!
