Wasted potential
This game looked so good at first but sadly it doesn't deliver.
First the good: The graphics look fairly nice with cutscenes that have a digital comic book style. It's classic black and white featuring the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The humour is there and you get to play all the Turtles alone or in co-op. You can have a friend join in to clear the levels at 2 players. If you're playing solo, the computer will take control of the second turtle. The music, while nothing memorable is ok.
Now the bad: the game suffers from main problem and it's the worst sin a game can commit, the gameplay is terrible. You play the whole game in a 2,5D angle. The game would've been fine if it was simply sidescrolling 2D but the bad overhead angle makes it hard to line up your turtle and actually hit the opponent. You'll be missing your target way too often and spend most your time lining up your character and that's no fun. The other main problem is that the game has very slow pacing. You walk through the level and every few seconds a small group of enemies will appear which you have to clear to proceed. The problem here is that you just walk for a few seconds where you do nothing but walk and then you're forced to stop to clear out only a few enemies followed by more pointless walking. The gameplay has no flow and is just plain boring. This game could've been great if they made it 2D sidescrolling like Turtles in Time for SNES. That's what i was hoping for but sadly TMNT Arcade Attack doesn't deliver.
