Solid Strategy Game Though Sid Meyer's Civilization Revolution may start a tad slower than most other strategy games, there's a lot to love here if you give it a few hours. Exploring your new world can be tedious in the beginning, but once you have looked around a bit, the pace picks up quickly.
To be honest, I'd never played any of the Civ games before this one, but that doesn't affect the gameplay at all. The controls are streamlined, accessible and easy to understand, and the options are abundant enough to keep you playing for hours. It's easy enough to beat one run-through in an afternoon, but to fully experience this package, chocked full of interesting and varied lands to explore, several play modes, and different difficulties to do it with, you will need a lot more time.
If you're looking for the cream of the console-strategy-game crop, look no further.
The best strategy game on the any console yet! If you are worried about the transition from playing civilization on the pc to console, it is understandable as traditionally pc is where the home of strategy games are. But the guys from Take2 Interactive have done a great job streamlining the gameplay on the console. It retains the civilization feel but takes out a lot of micromanagement aspects, making it perfect for people who want to finish the game in a few hours rather than a few days!
Civ Rev A pretty good transition from the highly complex PC Civilization series. Going to the console, some aspects well known to civ vets are gone: your people are always happy, there isn't a percentage split between taxes, science, and luxuries, there is only one size map, etc.
But in trimming down the game, Civilzation Revolution manages to compress the complexity while still feeling like a Civilzation game. You'll progress into the different time periods quickly and can look to finish a game in hours rather than days.
For those that want a console-friendly, streamlined Civilization, this is a good buy. Just a warning to those who have played previous games in the series and are looking for those epic, expansive games.
