DJing and Bemani fans listen up!
From the Korean game maker Pentavision comes a special PSP version of the web-based and mobile music mixing game DJ Max. The game resembles Konami's popular beatmania series: You take the position as DJ and are challenged to hit the correct button(s) on your PSP handheld at the right time to complete the song.
The game is now completely in English and makes DJ Max easy to understand and to pick up for persons without any Korean knowledge. With more than 50 tracks to choose from (including K-Pop, Techno, Breakbeat, Hip Hop, Rock and other popular genres), every music game fan will find a tune of his taste. Lyrics of all songs are included in the game's manual as bonus.
Prior song selection, you will have several options available, such as speed & fader adjustment, mirror mode selection and more. After completion of a song, you will receive a summary of your performance, including a combo & break counter, rating and score.
Your achievements are saved into a Ranking Chart. Additionally, you can unlock new tracks and items in the Gallery Mode.
Depending on the difficulty level, DJ Max can be played in either 4 button (left, up, triangle, circle) or 6 button mode (left, up, right, square, triangle, circle). You can further manually increase the speed with the L/R buttons.
DJ Max contains a number of game modes and extras as listed up below. Be warned that rookies might have their difficulties in the beginning; DJ Max's difficulty level is adjusted to experienced gamers.
Portable Game Mode
Rookie DJing: Easy difficulty 4 button mode. 10 tracks are selectable from the start.
Pro DJing: Normal difficulty 6 button mode. 11 tracks are selectable from the start.
Club DJing: Expert difficulty 4/6 button mode. Select a music theme and unlock new genres.
Unlimited Mixing Stage: Choose from 40 tracks from the start in either 4 or 6 button mode.
Gallery: Shows your disc collection and a number of images and videos once you have completed parts of the game.
Ranking Chart: Your high scores are saved here.
Options: Adjust settings such as Gear Display (left/center/right), Sound (speaker/earphone), Control Settings & Save Settings
OST
All 58 tracks that are included on the Collector's Edition double disc soundtrack album are also stored on the UMD. The player includes useful functions, such as random and repeat play. Ideal to chill out and listen to DJ Max Portable's sound on the go.
M/V Clips
Select from 39 music videos to play back from the start. Here you can sit back and relax and watch DJ Max's music videos without being challenged as DJ at the same time.
DJ Max Portable (International Version) is completely in English and contains one new song.

So good! So cool Just play it forever whenever whoever..
Beatmania i heard a lot of hype about this game, so i decided to give it a go. i can find little to no difference between this game and the slew of beatmania titles that have been available for ages on the ps1 and ps2. if you like beatmania or pop'n' music, you'll like this. the music is the same old crappy type of bubble gum you've heard in most of those titles, and the videos in the background are of a somewhat more coherent inanity. the gameplay is somewhat more forgiving (and entirely adjustable) than the bemani games which makes it more accessible. it is a decent game, but nothing special in the rhythm genre.
Amazing Quite easily the best PSP game in existence. Perhaps even one of the best games of all time. Ridiculously addictive. It has catchy music and keeps you coming back for more. Ever since I got it I've played on it almost every day for at least an hour. Considering I've had it a good few months that's a lot of time :P
BUY THIS GAME NOW!

PC to PSP Amazing game, I am very pleased to have bought it, and this was the main reason I bought a PSP at all for. Compared to the PC ver there are lots of formiller songs and many other ones I never got the chance to play. Simple, fun, and great game to play on the go or sitting at home. So if I'm doing something, play a song or two and turn it off. A must have for all gamers.

Best Psp music game ever I jus got this game and i am hooked i have played it for almost 3 hours straight trying to unlock everything. It is a challenge and you can even unlock the real beatmania skin.If you have a psp you must get this game worth every penny.Playasia is the number one shop to buy imports!
DJ Max Portable A truly brilliant rhythm game. A great selection of songs and an anime theme make the game an easy ten out of ten. Simply one of the greatest games ever released. It's a shame this was only released in Korea, because if it was released on a worldwide basis, it would be an instant hit. Best piece of gaming masterpiece I've seen in a long time, very addictive.

so much fun my friend has it, and i played it a couple times. i was hooked. heard about it from videos on google, played it, it's so much fun. i didn't want to copy my friend by buying it, so i'm gonna wait on part 2, whenever that's coming out. it's a lot like beatmania, just that instead of the turntable there's the spinning joystick. this one's in english too, so can't go wrong with that.
believer1717(14) on 03, Jan. 2007 22:16 (HKT)
greatest music game! this game is just amazing.. it's fun to play and fun to watch others play as well. it could be difficult but just keep on practising and you will eventually be able to play the songs, but for some it may be extremely fustrating to having to replaying the songs over and over. the game offers tones of songs and different modes/difficulties for people of different levels of skills. a must have for music game lovers!
Manny88(1) on 24, Dec. 2006 11:34 (HKT)
Great game but no VS mode. This game is awesome, i love DDR so i thought i would try this one out and i'm glad i did. If you like DDR you'll love this one too. Only thing i didn't like was the lack of a VS mode but hopefully part 2 will have it.

Off the Hook!!! This game is totally off the Hook!
Okay this game rocks to no end. I LOVE music games, and buy just about all the American released games. But this one is only coming out so far in Asia. But the minute I read about it, I knew I had to own it and buy it. It totally rocks my world. I love playing it because it is like playing a musical instrument, most close to the Keyboards. If you hit the key at the right time, it sounds like a keyboard, or other instrument. Miss a notice and its sour, just like in real life.
My only negative, is I wish there was a stange where you could continue on, even if you miss seveal notes. After all practice makes perfect is what I learned playing the keyboard. I know you miss notes, but you shouldn't be made to start the song all over again.
So far can only make it 3rd song in a trial. I still haven't saved my progress. I think you have to make it through a long sequence of songs.
Two Gamer thumbs way up for this one! Play-asia, thanks for allowing us to import this one.
Peace.

this game ROX > its such an awesome game! they should make a sequel with all the songs from the pc online game!

Finally I got to play this game! I finally got this game. Thanks to a very good friend who ordered this game for me. I will say this has to be one of the best music games since DDR its self. The music is such an amazing and wonderful song list. Just as the title says emotional sense since the music certainly lives off of them. It makes the experience much more and extremly enjoyable. I will say this was money well spent and with all the unlockables and everything else you wont be bored in a while. The game also features animated backgrounds for every song which certainly isnt a bad thing at all. Another good thing is the detail put into this game. They knew people would like to listen to the music without playing so in the game itself it includes an OST mode which lets you listen to DJMAX music regularly like MP3's which is a good thing on the bus. The controll is also very good for an handheld but takes a few songs to get used to. Once again dont wait any longer to buy this game. This was also my first experience with play-asia and it was extemly good I got my package in 2 days!!!!!!!!! (did i mention thats good from asia to New York America!!) Play-Asia is great. Now enough what are you waiting for buy this game right now!!!
Practice Practice Pratice I admit this game is difficult...
but you'll get the hang of it after some practice
BTW its Very cool when you can complete the stage in rapid sucession!!!
Anonymous on 05, Nov. 2006 02:38 (HKT)
Best game, Ever. If yo like Beatmania.. Or video games.. Or even music.. Then BUY THIS GAME, you wont be dissapointed.
Anonymous on 04, Nov. 2006 14:02 (HKT)
Two Thumbs up! This game is the only game that got me hooked for so long a time. Music Simulation with rythum and beats, jammin' and rockin' your world with music. As they always say, Let your thumbs do the talking and feel the rythum in your soul as you play. Truely a gem worth buying.
Anonymous on 03, Nov. 2006 12:11 (HKT)
oh my god . the Best PSP game ever made~!!! Best PSP game ever made.~ if you like music and rythm game .......>>>>>THIS IS IT!!
you are not gonna get bored with this forever.~
THIS GAME IS HARD!!!!!!!!!! Like Swear at your PSP Chuck it across the room hard and this is just on the easy level so it loses a star there.
But for all the extras, Ease of actually playing (but the game isn't easy) great visuals and all the stuff packed into the actual game disc. It's an Easy 4
A great rhythm game Not being new to the rhythm games, but new to the DJ Max game this one was quite a surprise. Although you may at first think that playing with the PSP buttons isn't all that great, after you get used to it it is actually very playable. The graphics and allround presentation are very nice, with flashy but easy to navigate menus. The music is simply great, with the personal favorites Oblivion en End of The Moonlight. With near 60 songs, you'll be playing for a while, especially if you're trying to play all 3 of the button modes(respectively 4, 6 and 8 buttons). Finally, all the extra's make this worth buying by far. I've been playing for over a month and I've only progressed 20% of the total collection rate, go figures! In short: buy this, it's a great rhythm game.
OMG Best PSP game ever! Music is excellent! Great control!
My PSP was collecting dust until this game came out!
This is one of the best game that's available on PSP!
Well worth the money!
awesome game!! great game for music lovers! lots of variety genres, theres more songs when you unlock the game (by raising your experience level) you can never get tired or bored playing this, cuz its kinda hard to master, heck ive been playing for 2-3 months now and i can barely master the 4 buttons!! 6 and 8 buttons are impossible right now but this is highly addicting and challenging!! best music game of the year!!!
GREAT! After playing my friends I HAD to get this game, catchy and addictive. Great for on the road and pretty much ... anywhere, if you like music you'll love this game even if you dont really PLAY games xD
I bought a PSP just for this! And it was damn worth it. I've been playing the japanese MMO for a year now and when this came out, I went estatic! I saved up money and I imported this and a PSP from here and now I can't stop playing it.
http://djmaxus.bemanistyle.com/ - International community for DJMAX players.
Catchy! I was at A-Kon 17 and I played this game for like 5 minutes borrowing it from one of the great people at the kon, and I was instantly in love with it, I am definitely buying soon
Beat Music Best Music It s so great 4 this game.I never leave it at home.I love this game so much.Move with ur high speed finger!!!Cant xplain how best right now it is!!Hard to bored it.
AHHHHH! its GREAT but HORRIBLE at the same time! I will honestly say that this game took forever to get here. But when it finally did it came around finals time so i cant play much but its still a great game thanks alot play asia! :D
HUH???? I got this game like a week ago and boy am I paying for it I have my psp with me most of the time now everytime im free you can catch me playing the game and this includes while being at school too addictive
My First order. This is my very first Koren game that I played and it was great. Every body was tell me that I was going to take a long time to get here but it didnt. It only too two days. I was really happy. Thanks play-asia.
Super fun, super fast songs are fun and challenging for the normal user. Loved the fact that with this set I could listen to the music on the cds included. Great deal! Fun game and play-asia got it here fast and in perfect condition!
DJ Max Portable This is the game why I've bought my PSP for..
get it now... you won't be disappointed....!
In my opinion it is the best psp game, followed by Monster Hunter
I'm in love! I have been playing this game for a month and it hasn't left my psp since I got it. If you like music games at all and crave it on your psp, this is a MUST!
I Hurt My Thumb! When I got this game, I got so addicted to it that I played for a whole day straight. Doing that resulted in severly hurting my thumb! I could barely move it. So I had to take a break for 3 days for my thumb to heal.
Just received my DJ max in the mail This game is just great. I knew I was going to enjoy this game alot, but not this much! The game was delivered on time and was very much worth the wait. Thx alot Play-Asia! :D
AWESOME JUST AWESOME ME LLEGO AYER Y SOLO PUEDO DECIR QUE EL JUEGO ES LO MAXIMO, LAS CANCIONES SON EXCELENTES Y ES BASTANTE AMIGABLE A LOS IMPORTADORES.... INCREIBLE
THis is one of the best import games for psp (and initial d) First off This is a Korean game. Most Korean games or good but not great for example Magna Carta. But once in a while a freat and excellent Korean game comes out that is not on the PC (koreans are the shit on PC) and even in extremly rare cases the game is on a portable system. This is that game that comes once in a century, from Korea.
The music, ooooo the music is excellente. Everything to korean sad songs to techno to just plain dj. There is a OST mode (original sound track) where you can just listen to the music as a regular cd, it has repeat and random too! There is a music video mode where you can vies the videos that are in the background while you are playing because you really cant concentrate on the videos in the background so the game allows you to watch the videos seperately.
There are 3 difficulties as you go through your mission to become a pro korean dj mixing pimp. There is a 4 button mode, a 6 button mode, and finally a 8 button mode. Im still stuck on 4 button mode because this game is really hard and challenging. But this is good because that means the game has alot to offer due to the difficulties so I will spend many hours honing my skills. Im not saying this game is awesome because its an korean game (im korean too so i can understand some of the songs and also all the menus are in english, barely any korean to read) but its good because of its difficulty, replay value, and living your dreams of becoming a korean dj.
In conclusion (this is like an essay!) if you dont get this game after I took my time to right this long ass essay, I am going to find you and kill you and revive you and then kill you agian.
I just ordered them.. I'm a online DJMAX ranking 55th player.
I do good on the keyboards, but I'm not sure
if I can do good on the PSP buttons..
We'll find out.
So far can only make it 3rd song in a trial. I still haven't saved my progress. I think you have to make it through a long sequence of songs.
Two Gamer thumbs way up for this one! Play-asia, thanks for allowing us to import this one.
Thank You Play-Asia!!! DJ Max Portable is great. I love how the music varies from techno to rock to classical to...just about anything! Not only that, but the graphics are excellent. I love how Pentavision included both an OST and video viewer right on the game.
The game itself is very challenging, but it keeps me playing and wanting to do better.
Play-Asia rules as well. They shipped it out quickly and made my day!
The Missing Link! There has always been something missing from the sony psp software line and this game fills in that void. The game seems very simple, but once you first play any song you are hooked! Also this game has some very catchy tunes that makes you want to connect the psp to you home stereo or car stereo. I finally have a game to use my headbanger headphone for!
Great! Im new to these type of games, it was a video I saw of it that really made me want to buy it, and im so glad I did, its such an awesome and fun game. It'll keep you playing for a long time.
Even if you are unsure about the music, most of the music in the game is great, and im not even a big fan of some of the style of music it has, but it goes awesome with this game. :D
Incredible Game for PSP I am so glad I purchased this - received it in 6 days from date of shipping (Hong Kong to upstate New York). Very import friendly - easy to figure out even without knowing any Korean language. Have been a DDR player for 2+ years - this game is perfect for any Bemani fan - an incredible addition to the PSP line-up!
No words to describe this game.... ...But I'll try! I recieved this within 5 days from Play-Asia. Previous to that, I had been online finding out anything I could about the game and listening to all the music. I watched videos for the game too. I heard it was amazing, but dang.....I haven't put it down since I recieved it this morning (7 hours ago)...except to write this review, of course. The game is everything one should expect from a PSP game: Music, movies, incredible replay value, innovation....everything!! This game MUST be bought if you're a fan of ANY music/rhythm action game!! Yes, it's identical to beatmania....but I've only beaten ONE song on beatmania and it was a 3 or 4 star song. On DJ Max Portable, I've already been able to beat several 9's on Rookie Mode!! It's very easy to jump into and very satisfying to hear yourself as you piece the songs together in time!! I can't say enough about how addictive and enjoyable this game is!! Very high production values :) Buy it!!
Highly Addictive! I'm hooked on this game! Can't stop playin' it. It has plenty of things to keep you busy. You can look at the music video clips and listen to the OST. This game is pretty challenging as well. 4 button mode is pretty hard at higher levels, but 6 and 8 button mode is ridiculous! It's a must have for any PSP owner.
The PSP was made for this game... DJMax Portable is the perfect showcase piece for the PSP. It brilliantly uses all of the touted functions of the system: movies, music, pictures and smooth gameplay! It will have you playing "just one more song" for hours.
When (not "if") you buy this game, I highly recommend playing the free online PC version while you wait for delivery as this game seems geared towards those with some experience already. (Go here for some great walkthroughs for getting set up on the Japanese server: http://djmaxus.finalwaronline.net/index.php).
All in all, my only regret is not buying the Prestige Box Set Collector's Edition; it would have been completely worth the extra money.
Thenk you Pentavision for this great game!
And thank you Play-Asia for giving me access to it.
Must have!!! You will never say Sorry!!!! had the game for almost a week now, the game's quite good, and like Beatmania, controls are simple, and very hard challenges are there for even the most manic Benami players.
There are 50+ songs, but unlike the Taiko no Tatsujin Portable, there won't be any additional song download function.
From what I've played, songs are quite catchy, and it has various genres accompanied by great anime to somewhat wacky illustrations and MV clips. (most of the song's lyrics are actually in english as well)
UMD hold the game itself, which has 4 button, 6 button, and 8 button modes. (jump of difficulty from 4 to 6 button is great... I've got long way to go until I try the 8 button mode), and there is the OST function, where it transforms it to a music UMD so you can listen the game's great music while on the move. Lastly it has M/V Clip mode, where you can listen to the music and its Music Video Clip.
Game holds quite a few unlockables, and persistent players will find themselves unlocking different things.
Menu's are mostly English, or is accompanied by one, so even non-Korean speakers would be fine with it.
I don't know the chances of this game making to the States or in European region (seeing how so few of the Benami games have managed to get state release), so I say grab it if you were looking for some Benami action on your PSP.
NDS has Ouendan and Band Brothers, PSP has Taiko and now DJ Max.
Maybe it'll give Konami its wakeup call and get them to start moving their excellent Benami games to PSP.
Intro is quite sweet also, just go to www.djmax.co.kr and wait until the main flash animation loads, and watch it. You can also click on MUSIC section and listen to the samples of 50 odd music that's featured on the game.
¡¡¡¡Orale!!!!
Sweet The closest thing to beatmania u could get on a portable. I got this as soon as i got this and i love it. it plays similer to the beatmania games most of the songs are in english or in japaness with a few songs in korean. The vidualizations for the music look great and go well with the songs. if u like music games or just are intrested in these types of games PICK THIS UP! you won't be disapointed
I just bought a psp for this game... Wow, freakin rock, this game is so much fun! Beautiful art, catchy tunes, and, trust me, when you start super focusing on button pushing its just very very smooth. Its very hard though, but you'll be amazed how skilled you get because of all the fun you have.
Also, I received my order quite fast, I'd say about 5 days from when I ordered it. So I shelled out quite a bit getting a psp and this game, but am happy about it.
Beyond Amazing!! This game is beyond what I expected! I've read all the reviews, visited every site and watched every video I could find about this. And I'm still blowin' away by it. Just the game play itself (although hard) is great, but then they throw in the soundtrack and video clips for you enjoyment!!!! Must have in any PSP collection!!
Thank you play-asia for the chance to own such a marvlous game!!
More fun than a can full of monkeys Absolutely wonderful game, I can't stop playing it and like the guys above, I'm still on "easy" mode with the whole 4 button deal. The best part is, if I don't want to play the game, I can just run it on OST mode or watch the videos and at work, this is just brilliant!
I really wish I got the collector's edition for the extra stuff cause honestly, this was the best buy I've made for my psp since the psp itself. Highly recommend or just check out the official website and if you're a fan of sweet beats, you'll be like me and plaster yourself on that website for days on end till your order of DJ Max comes in.
after one week, this thing still hasnt left my psp this is one of the most fun, addictive, original and perfectly portable game for the psp i've played yet. The music is varied and catchy, the difficulty ranges from easy to impossible and makes for lots and lots of replay value. Not to mention there are a TON of unlockables, new gear graphics, new note graphics, OST soundtrack mode, image collection, music video's...I am so glad i signed up for the play-asia newsletter or i never would have gotten the email about this game and probably wouldnt be playing it right now. BUY THIS GAME!
Don't hesitate on this one! There's absolutely no question. If you love rhythm games and you have a PSP, DJ Max belongs in your collection.
There is a steep learning curve for those new to music games, but anyone with DDR, Para Para, Pop'n, or Beatmania experience will be able to at least get in and playing quickly.
My only complaint is that the song selection seems very pop and hip-hop heavy, but both genres lend themselves to distinct beats and instrument hits, both of which are used to great effect in DJ Max. You'll be too busy mashing your PSP's buttons to notice anyway.
While Taiko has already graced the PSP, DJ Max feels like a far more natural fit for this platform. Here's hoping we see more from Pentavision or that this prompts Konami's entrance into the realm of the PSP.
tough game! It may be tough but the difficulty curve is not impossible. DDR fans will certainly not 'have it made' automatically, you really have to try to get used to the control setup since it's not a traditional "up, left, down, right" type setup...
Myself, I'm still stuck in 4-button, that itself can even be overwhelming at times ;)
This definately seems like it's going to have alot of replay value due to the difficulty but also because it is possible to learn at a fairly quick pace...
No title This game is very addictive. Im still using the 4 buttons mode but im gonna try to learn 6 soon. has anyone played the "blythe" song yet?? I loved that song on the website but I cant find it in the game?
No title Challenging and fun
I'm currently in 4 button and still learning my rythms.
It'll be hard at first even for easy mode but it reminds me how I started playing DDR. You have to learn and practice and soon you'll acquire that rythym and pulling serious combos by then. Its like beatmania and DDR.
soundtrack and video is superb and worth listening to.
A must buy for music fans.
good part is that it has OST and MV clips incase you don't feel like playing
A real fan i have been playing this game online now for more than 1 year in korean servers.i bought 10 months premium and a lot of items that cost about three hundred US dollars.i really like this game.
Like a tiny East-Asian arcade in your pocket This is an absolute must-have for music game fans. The music is all well done, and has a distinctive Korean sound to it, not unlike the Pump it Up series. The difficulty ranges from extremely easy at the low end of 4-button mode, to stuff that will make you cry in 8-button mode. My only complaints are that the song result screen looks like it was made in about 5 minutes with Powerpoint, and the loading times can be a little harsh (though no worse than older arcade versions of Pump it Up). It's obviously nothing that should make you change your mind about getting the game. With over 50 songs all having at least 3 difficulty levels each - quite a bit more for some, an absolutely ridiculous number of expert mode courses, and around 200 gallery images, this should keep my PSP useful for a very long time.
Awesome, What a Suprise! I have been playing this game online now for months @ http://game.netmarble.jp/cpsite/djmax/ and when I got the Play-Asia Newsletter and I ordered it Immedeatly. I can't wait to get it. やった!!すっごい!
The Best Music Game available for PSP!!! I've got the Prestige Package today, it was perfect.
Double OST CDs, Calendar, Post cards, Hand strap...
The game itself was also full of fun, great visual and
killer sound track!!! (of course this is just me but I think
you guys will find your own fav too.)
Also I'd like to thank Play-Asia for getting this game,
cause the limited edition was sold out in Korea!!
Man~ you guys are great!!! Thanks!!!
