A good shmup for veterans or gamers looking for a challenge to increase their gaming skill.
Let me start off by saying that I have been gaming for 20+ years, and through those years I have developed a liking to just about every genre. But the shmup genre is one of the few that are my favorite. Some people don't like games that force you to increase your skill as a gamer and expect all or most games to be easy, and for those type of people you should look elsewhere and skip this game. For the rest of us whether you are a veteran like myself or are looking for a challenge this game does not disappoint. This game has 8 levels of good shmup action with good game-play to boot, and this game also contains a decent selection of planes(each with good well balanced varying degrees of power-ups that depends on what plane that you choose) to play as. Also word of advice if you do plan on playing this game pick a plane with high speed maneuverability because this game will make you mincemeat before you know it if you choose a slow speed plane. Call me odd but I like games with punishing but not impossible difficulty, and this game fits that bill to a tee. The game is short but sweet that someone can get through in one sitting, but if you decide that you really want to get good at this game and want to play the game as it is intended to be played it will take you way more time than just one sitting. This game was originally an arcade game and eventually was ported to the excellent but expensive at the time neo geo aes/mvs. The psp port is mostly arcade faithful and the only problems that I have with this game are the mission screens are missing that were present in the arcade version and the lack of any extra content beyond the main game, but the stages in the game are arcade faithful as far as I know. In this day and age where most games are dumbed-down in difficulty to appeal to the masses this game stands out among the crowd that provides a nostalgic breath of fresh air that hark-ens back to when games took real gaming skill to beat, and that imo is always a welcome experience/addition to just about any gamer. Don't expect much(or anything extra for that matter) beyond the main game though. I recommend getting the hard copy version if you are a collector or you prefer the hard copy versions over the digital versions of games and don't mind paying more for the hard copy version of this game. This is not the best shmup for the psp as there are others that offer more value content wise for the money, but it is a good shmup for the psp and it should not be overlooked by any fan of the shmup genre that owns a psp. I recommend getting this game whether you choose to get this in digital form or hard copy form for the psp is up to you. As it stands: it is a fun game and a good shmup in general.
