Irem's side-scrolling shooter series immerges into the turn-based strategy game genre. As a result, R-Type Tactics features traditional side-scrolling shooting action confined to a turn-based hex-grid system. Instead of cursing bosses for cheap kills and numbing your fingers slapping the fire button, you'll take turns attacking and plotting devious schemes with your enemies.
One of the best Strategy games on the PSP! This game is great. If you love a deep strategy game, this is the one to get, especially if you love R-Type. It may ditch the classic 2D gameplay, but the move to a Strategy game is quite brilliant, and quite fun. Overall, the music is great, the graphics are nice, and the storyline is really well done.
This game is also worth getting with the R-Type Tactics Original Sountrack. Great music, a mix of techno and orchestrated music, a feast for the ears. If you do get this, pick up the U.S. version. It is a very text heavy game, so the english version is much appreciated.
Overall, I did not regret this game at all. I'm a huge fan of the R-Type series, and if you yourself are a fan of R-Type in any manner, you owe it to yourself to play this game. It really is that good.
